One accidental pregnancy. One fake husband. What can go wrong? There’s nothing like starting your Monday morning with a positive pregnancy test.Trust me, I know. Because I’m looking at one right now.All I can think is: Oh, hell. My grandmother is going to kill me.This might just send her to an early grave, so there’s only one option—pretending the father is my new husband. If only he’d agree to … husband.
If only he’d agree to fake it.
Kai Connors was supposed to be nothing more than a one-night stand. A long, dirty, one-night stand fueled by one too many tequila shots, where the only promise was to never speak of it again.
But if my unfairly sexy next-door neighbor gets his way, this fake marriage could turn out to be very, very real…

Good book but pretty anticlimactic. It was funny but after a while I found the humor over done and drawn out but I loved the chemistry between the two main characters.
I’m going to start this review by stating that I loved The One Night Stand Next Door. It was flirty and sexy. It had a witty spark to it. Somehow, The Girl Next Door lost that spark for me. There were witty comebacks and banter but I felt like the whole book was like that which felt off to me. This definitely is a light hearted read which is why I like reading Emma Hart’s books. It definitely checked off that box for me. I just wish it had a bit more substance / meat to it. I was expecting a lot more emotion – I don’t know. It was still a cute book. Everything just fell too easy, I think.

The Girl Next Door is a fabulous read. You will fall in love with Kai and Ivy from the very start. They will make you laugh out loud with how they handle the whole one night stand oops pregnancy. The banter will pull you in from the start and will not let go. I love Ivy and Kai so much. They just fit together so perfectly without even realizing it. I couldn’t get enough of this rom com. Between the crazy grandma and Kai’s sister you will just love everything about this one.
I honestly loved this one. I completely swooned hard for Kai and Ivy! In true Emma Hart fashion you are thoroughly entertained throughout.
If you havent read the prequel first then i recommend you do.
A few weeks after Kai and Ivy’s one night stand their lives are changed forever with a positive pregnancy test and ends up in a fake marriage to make a crazy granny happy.
Kai made me swoon hard throughout as he was so lovely. He had feelings for Ivy before the pregnancy but he now has an excuse to win the girl, to convince her that the fake relationship could be reality. I loved Ivy too, she was so real with her mood swings and pregnancy symptoms, she brought real humour to the situation.
I am seriously intrigued with the other characters in this story so can’t wait to see what their stories bring us.
Kai and Ivy were hilarious!! After a drunken one night stand these next door neighbors are know going to be parents. But what she didn’t know is that Kai always had a crush on her and this pregnancy just speeds things up for him to be with her. At first she’s unsure because she doesn’t want a relationship just because she’s pregnant but he shows her he’s in for the long haul. Her grandmother was a handful but all the other secondary characters were funny and added their own touch to this funny story.
This was a cute fun read about 2 people who FATE threw together the only way that she knew how. There’s a lot of fun and wacky characters that give us quite a few laughs.
4 Funny and Sexy Stars!!!
I loved Kai and Ivy so much… their lives are forever changed with one night of unforgettable passion and not in a way they were expecting… pun intended!!
Ms. Hart has a way of telling a story that had me laughing out loud…with not only Kai and Ivy’s friendship and somewhat sarcastic conversations, but also had my heart was smiling when they showed their real feelings for each other. I so admired Kai for being exactly who and what Ivy needed with this situation. When you add in her grandma, well, it just becomes that much better!!
This book was a perfect way to spend my Sunday and if you’re looking for a quick, sexy and funny read, this is the book for you!!
4.5
The girl next door is adorably funny and a really fun read. Kai is so adorably smitten with Ivy and I am here for it. Ivy is so entertaining and a hoot. I was hooked after reading their free prequel and I just love their story. They are such a natural fit together and my favorite kind of Emma Hart couple.
The Girl Next Door was an easy and pleasant read.
Ivy and Kai are a perfect match and you can only think that they will make great parents too.
Ivy finds out that she’s pregnant after a one night stand with her neighbor Kai. I have to say that I was impressed by her attitude as she took the news straightaway very well and so did he!! He is there for her and even stopped drinking coffee to please Miss Volcano.
Kai always had a thing for Ivy but never dared to let her know. Now that she’s expecting his baby , will he let her know the truth?
Ivy’s dad deserves the prize for best dad of the year.
I didn’t like very much the gran as I found her too much and overbearing.
This story was fun with good banter and will definitely make you crave for more… I wish there was more .
After what was supposed to be only a one night stand (be sure to snag The One Night Stand Next Door – it’s free), Ivy and Kai discover they are now expecting . . .and, rather than tell her very religious grandmother the truth, Ivy fakes an engagement. Which turns into a fake marriage. And, then, turns into real life dating. Because, let’s be honest, Kai wanted a relationship with Ivy long before their one night stand. Now, it’s up to him to convince Ivy that she wants a relationship too . . . and that it isn’t an obligation for either of them, but honest and genuine feelings!
I loved Kai and Ivy’s banter. I adored how cranky Ivy was being pregnant at times, as well as her crazy mood swings, food cravings and smell aversions. And, Kai was the perfect man to have around . . . super understanding of what Ivy was going through with a great sense of humor. He was also willing to deal with her crazy grandmother!
I loved that the side characters introduced in this book will be getting their own stories too . . . although I know Emma Hart only mentions the “bookworms,” I kind of hope Kai’s sister gets one as well because I loved her snark!
For a relationship that happened from a one night stand, it’s super sweet and fun and feels very real and I loved every page! 4 stars!
THE GIRL NEXT DOOR by Emma Hart picks up immediately following the, ahem, action in Emma’s sexy snippet of a prequel, THE ONE NIGHT STAND NEXT DOOR. I already loved Kai and Ivy, so getting this story was like getting to the eagerly awaited main course after an appetizer that’s really done its job.
This might be one of my most favorite of Emma’s couples of late. Yes, Ivy is sassy and snarky, but Kai is already all in. From the minute that he finds out that he and Ivy are going to be intertwined for the next, oh, 18 years or so, he’s ready to dive in with both feet. Heck, he’s already swimming laps, waiting for Ivy to catch up. I love that Emma has written Kai as sure of himself, yet vulnerable at the same time.
Ivy, for all of her bravado, really can use a partner, and Kai totally fills the bill. Facing a future she didn’t anticipate, dealing with her well-meaning but nutty family, and navigating the shenanigans of a small town takes a team, and a village, and Ivy has lucked out in both departments.
There is the usual cast of wonderful secondary characters, family and friends that are the perfect foils to Ivy and Kai, and, hey, guess what, they’re getting stories, too…yay! Fans of romantic comedy with sides of sweetness and heat will love Kai and Ivy and THE GIRL NEXT DOOR. Make sure to grab it, and enjoy.
This was a fun, sweet and adorable read, the follow up to The One Night Stand Next Door, but no fear if you haven’t read this as Emma gives you a brief rundown on what’s happened previously.
So Ivy has just found out she is pregnant due to a one night stand with her next door neighbour, Kai. Her world is an upside down mess, she is dreading telling everyone including Kai, but most especially her Grandmother who is a slightly nutty character in this, is Catholic and does not believe in sex before marriage.
Kai has fancied Ivy for ages and has developed some real feelings for her, so when she shows up on his doorstep in a mess, he takes the news on the chin and steps up to his obligations, even if it means constructing a weird story for her family about them having been dating for a while, and even being engaged.
Its a super sweet and adorable read, these two are perfect for each other, Kai is such a sweetheart and would do anything for Ivy, being there for her, but not pushing her into a relationship, but trying to win her over. Ivy is a bit of a mess and pregnancy throws her for a loop, but finds herself falling for Kai and his super sweet ways.
There’s plenty of wit and entertaining banter in her, you just never knew what would come out of Ivy’s Grandmother’s mouth next! The story is relatable with all the isms of pregnancy that Ivy goes through, no drama, just a feel good funny read.
Another great rom-com from Emma! Somewhat of an abrupt start, Ivy finds out she is pregnant resulting from a one-night stand with her neighbor Kai. Across from her apartment, Kai has always had a huge crush on Ivy but has never acted on things until the party that brought them together. Now somewhat forced together, Ivy informs Kai he’s going to be a father and he takes it as his chance to be in her life potentially for good. I found myself constantly laughing out loud over the fact that these two had strong feelings for each other but were scared to act on them. Throwing in the hilarity of them pretending to be engaged and married just for Ivy’s grandmother while her father knows the truth added in another level of comedy. In the end, the chemistry between these two were strong enough to come to the surface and while they wouldn’t rush into things because of the pregnancy, they did decide to give each other a real chance at a relationship. Forever loving the witty banter and comedy that Emma gives readers in her books, and I can’t wait for the next one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
4 Stars
The Girl Next Door is a hilarious stand-alone novel by Emma Hart. If you haven’t read the prequel The One Night Stand Next Door, I suggest doing so before reading this because it gives you a little bit of the backstory. Ms. Hart is the queen of rom-coms and after reading TGND-it is every bit deserved.
I had the biggest crushes on Ivy and Kai from the very first page! The banter between them had me busting out laughing and I seriously could not get enough of them.
This rom-com will have you laughing non-stop and never wanting it to end. I seriously adored the characters and highly recommend reading it!
Like all of Emma Hart’s books I flew through this one and enjoyed every minute of it.
Kai and Ivy story was a fun, fluffy read. There were many laugh out loud moments as well. These characters as well as the side characters were all very love-able. Ivy’s relationship with her family members made the book more enjoyable and her grandmother was a hoot with her “demands/thoughts”.
I can’t wait to read about Ivy’s friends and sisters stories.
“Ivy, if you think for a second I’m going to walk away and let you do this alone, you’re an absolute idiot.”
The positive pregnancy test has just turned Ivy’s life upside down. Obviously the news is a shock. The one-night stand with her handsome neighbor yielded an unexpected fruit. The fact of being single, not having planned and having a new aversion to coffee are facts that concern her. But the biggest shock comes when she realizes that she will have to tell the news to her extremely Catholic and completely exaggerated grandmother. It will be a long nine months.
Kai does not even imagine the surprise he will have when opening the door of his apartment. But much more than getting used to the news that he will be a father, he will have to learn to hide the feelings he has for Ivy, feelings that everyone has already noticed, except her.
Get ready for the journey of this very funny and very cute couple.
Ivy and her hormones, Kai and his patience and his attempts at flirting, friends who love to interfere, a meddling family, a fake engagement and marriage. The plot of this confusion only increases.
Light, fun, with fantastic dialogues and a guaranteed happy ending. I just found it a little short, I wanted more chapters of this story.
I enjoyed “The Girl Next Door” by Emma Hart, a cute, sweet, and funny story featuring an accidental pregnancy, a fake marriage, and a well-crafted friends-to-lovers romance. Main characters Ivy and Kai were both very likeable, and I was impressed at how well they reacted to the news of their unexpected bundle of joy. Kai was so sweet and supportive of Ivy, and I especially appreciated his willingness to indulge her frequent need for ice cream! I also loved Ivy and Kai’s amusing conversations and banter as they got to know each other better and tried to navigate the complexities of their new relationship.
That said, I did feel that the story’s ending was rather abrupt, and things didn’t seem like they were entirely settled between Ivy and Kai. During their last conversation on the topic, Ivy still seemed to be having doubts about whether her feelings for Kai were real or only a result of pregnancy hormones. I wish that there had been one final conversation in which Ivy clarified her feelings for Kai before the end of the book.
Aside from that minor point, “The Girl Next Door” was a fun, enjoyable read containing wonderful characters and plenty of laughs. I recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy, and can’t wait to see what Emma Hart writes next!

Emma Hart knows how to make me laugh. All her books are filled with hilarious banter and couples too cute not to fall in love with.
This story continues where we were left off in the prequel with her finding out their one nightstand left a bun in the oven. The fight against her feelings for Kai was so much fun to read because to be honest? We was a great man that it was impossible not to fall for him.
I had a great time while reading this story and I recommend it if you’re looking for something light with positive vibes.

Ivy suddenly finds herself pregnant, from a one night stand. She is dreading telling anyone but doesn’t wait. But the baby daddy surprises her by being willing to help with everything and be there when needed.
Kai has had a crush on his apartment complex neighbor, and now that she is pregnant, he’s afraid she will misconstrue his interest as guilt and obligation.
Kai is set to prove to Ivy that they belong together, even with a baby on the way.
This book started with the sass and wit that I’ve come to love from an Emma Hart book but feel short for me. We traversed along greatly until the last 25% where it seemed like an abrupt ending. Overall, I liked the direction this was headed.
I love Emma Hart’s wit and humor and Ivy and Kai’s story is no exception. Ivy and Kai live across the hall from each other and have a drunken one night stand that results in an unexpected pregnancy. Ivy’s staunchly catholic, yet wacky grandmother is not happy about this until Ivy tells her that she and Kai are getting married. Now, she needs to get Kai on board. But with the feelings that Kai already has for Ivy, that is not the problem. The problem is getting Ivy to realize that she has feelings for Kai. This is a quick, funny read, with runaway hormones, eating for two and a lot of toilet humor!!
My only complaint – it doesn’t go all the way through to the birth, that will be hysterical.
