One accidental pregnancy. One fake husband. What can go wrong? There’s nothing like starting your Monday morning with a positive pregnancy test.Trust me, I know. Because I’m looking at one right now.All I can think is: Oh, hell. My grandmother is going to kill me.This might just send her to an early grave, so there’s only one option—pretending the father is my new husband. If only he’d agree to … husband.
If only he’d agree to fake it.
Kai Connors was supposed to be nothing more than a one-night stand. A long, dirty, one-night stand fueled by one too many tequila shots, where the only promise was to never speak of it again.
But if my unfairly sexy next-door neighbor gets his way, this fake marriage could turn out to be very, very real…

‘The Girl Next Door’ is the fantastic new romantic comedy by Emma Hart, and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The thing I like about Hart’s books is her down to earth characters and true to life plots. I can easily visualise the characters and relate to their situations from the get to, and she always throws in some hilariously funny situations for good measure.
When Ivy discovers that she is pregnant after a one night stand from her neighbour, she is shocked and panics. She assumes that Kai will automatically hate her, as she believes he does not like children or babies. But Kai takes her by surprise and is determined to be involved and is 100 percent on board. However, unfortunately it’s more Ivy’s staunchly religious grandmother Rosie that they need to be concerned with.
Ivy to try and keep the peace gets creative, and it’s up to Kai whether he gets on board or not. But Kai has his own feelings about the situation, but will he be brave enough to make it be known.
A hilariously captivating read, and I read it all in one sitting. Ivy is relatable and totally milks her pregnancy as much as she can. Kai is adorable and I love how caring and sensitive he is to her needs and the baby.
A fun read, with good character chemistry. This book is the perfect read for all romance lovers, and those who enjoy romantic comedies.
Before I start this review, if you’re at all interested in this book after reading the blurb, I highly recommend The One Night Stand Next Door. It’s the free prequel novella to this book and it sets up the entire scenario. It was a fun read.
As for The Girl Next Door, it was also incredibly fun to read. I loved Ivy. She had this snarky, sarcastic sense of humor that I loved. I was constantly laughing at the stuff that came out of her mouth. Her thoughts and opinions on pregnancy were fantastic. I could relate.
I also enjoyed Kai. He was the sweetness to Ivy’s spunk. I loved how he reacted to both Ivy and the pregnancy. I don’t think the surprise pregnancy trope would have been half as fun without the personality of his character. Kai and Ivy’s love story was just so entertaining and lovable.
I do have one complaint about this book. It was shorter than I wanted it to be. It ended up at an epilogue way faster than I wanted or expected. It was almost startling. I wanted more time with Kai and Ivy. It didn’t change my feelings about the book, just disappointed me a bit.
The Girl Next Door is the super cute follow up to The One-Night Stand Next Door. But, never fear, if you haven’t read the short and sexy prequel, Emma Hart has you covered with a quick catch up of how Kai and Ivy got to where they are.
When we first meet up with Ivy, her world has been turned upside down. She finds out that she’s pregnant with her one night stands baby. She naturally freaks out, but nothing is more scary than telling her family and Kai. Join Kai and Ivy as they go on an adventure of a lifetime. Who knew that one night could turn into something utterly spectacular???
The Girl Next Door was a super cute and entertaining read. Emma Hart has once again given readers a hilarious, yet sweet read. The characters are a lot of fun and will keep you on your toes. There’s smart wit and entertaining banter. Ivy’s grandmother was a riot. I couldn’t wait to find out what would come out of her mouth next. I adored Kai and Ivy together. Kai is just the sweetest. He’s had the biggest crush on Ivy for like EVER! He wasn’t afraid to step up and do whatever was necessary to not only keep Ivy happy, but win over her heart.
The Girl Next Door is exactly the book I was looking to spend my morning getting lost in. There’s never a dull moment and Emma Hart will have you laughing in stitches. The characters are relateable and add so much to the story. And the best part, there was no drama. This was just a story that made you feel good and left you with a smile on your face.

This is the 1st in a new series and what an amazing beginning this story is! Kai and Ivy are neighbours, who are crushing on each other, and when they hook up at an apartment party the result is a pregnancy. This story starts with the positive result and concocting a fake marriage to not send her grandma to an early grave. Kai is so sweet and loving and will do anything and whatever Ivy wants, but can he convince her that the fake part can become reality? This is a beautifully written story which is hilarious throughout, as well as having witty banter, which all leads to a fun and entertaining read. This author is the queen of romcom’s, and I cannot wait to read more from her. I highly recommend this gifted author’s work for all readers.
Cute, funny, and romantic. An unexpected pregnancy is the perfect excuse to indulge in a hot neighbour’s care, cuddles, and good looks.
The author has spawned a sweet little romance that splashes food fests, hormones, and manly protectiveness over a next-door-neighbour-relationship.
Snarky dialogues, nosy townspeople, combative elderlies, a fake marriage, and a mini golf gone bad later, Kai and Ivy get their feelings aligned and find their passion is in agreement with this bump in the road to domestic bliss.
I enjoyed it a lot, it’s fluid and funny and Kai is deliciously caring and thoughtful. Still, I’d have wanted more pregnancy times together as it all developed into a real baby and serious relationship. It needs more story, though the one there is is great.
Emma has proved once again why she’s the QUEEN of romcom’s! Holy snickerdoodles, this book had me laughing and smiling from the very first chapter to that damn epilogue that left me begging for so much more Ivy and Kai! This book had it all….
Surprise pregnancy
Crazy friends
Even crazier grandma
Hot, sexy neighbor
Fake marriage
This is definitely one hilarious romcom you won’t be able to put down because it’s that damn good!
Kai and Ivy are everything you want out of RomCom mixed with a surprise baby! I always forget how much I adore these types of stories but I seriously finishing this quickly… barely even two day! Kai is who you’d hope you could have a surprise baby with… he’s totally into Ivy and their future child. In fact, he’s ready to be in it for everything… he’d down and actively tries to woo her. Ivy is just as quirky and full of it as she was in that little novella. If you make it out of this story without smiling giddily and laughing out-loud several times then you just have to made of iron because this story is charming!
Emma Hart brings her signature snark, her wit and that sex appeal that oozes from the pages. There are times that RomComs just focus on the next outlandish joke or setting up that next joke and forget about following an actual storyline and furthering the relationship. But that isn’t Emma Hart’s deal. She is able to carry a story from beginning to end with flawless storytelling. I can’t wait to see what Emma continues to bring us! It’s always a treat.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
The Girl Next Door by Emma Hart continues Kai and Ivy’s story from the free prequel, The One Night Stand Next Door. Ivy is pregnant and does not want to send her grandmother to an early grave. So, what’s a girl to do? But would Kai play along? I just loved Kai. He was truly in this with Ivy all the way. He was caring and sweet and Ivy was fun and sassy. They were just great together and all the secondary characters were entertaining. I loved this fun and delightful read!
Happy reading!
The Girl Next Door missed the mark for me. It’s supposed to be a Rom Com, yet I couldn’t really find the humor anywhere.
Ivy finds herself suddenly pregnant after a drunken night with her neighbor, Kai. In telling her uber Catholic grandmother the situation, she starts a little white lie that she and Kai and engaged and have been secretly dating for a while. From there it just evolves to a bigger lie until that lie becomes real.
Here’s the pros:
-Kai is a wonderful hero. He is understanding, sweet, and sexy.
-Ivy’s and Kai’s best friends are some great side characters and I can’t wait for them to get their own books.
-Quick read with minimal angst.
-Ivy’s dad was #dadgoals.
And…the cons:
-Ivy’s entire persona is about whining about pregnancy and hormones.
-Ivy’s grandmother is truly mean and awful. Emma Hart has always done a great job writing quirky elderly characters, but Rosie was just mean.
-Kai’s sister was another mean and judgmental character; she added nothing to the story.
The Girl Next Door just wasn’t fun for me. But it gives me a little sneak peek into the upcoming Bookworm’s series and for that, it was worth the read.
I haven’t read a book by this author in a while but reading it reminds me once again how much I love her writing. I really enjoyed the banter between Ivy & Kai in this story and every chapter made me fall even more for these two. It was a fun, sexy, romantic story with a sassy side to it that had me really in stitches at times. At the end of the book, I would loved some more epilogues but that’s just me. A great summer read that you don’t want to miss!
Ivy and Kai have been neighbors for quite some time and after a wild night together, they are in for the surprise of a lifetime. With Ivy being pregnant a lot of things start to change and she feels that she’s in over her head but tries to take one day at a time. Even though Kai is there by her side, she doesn’t want a relationship but somehow down the line they end up in a fake marriage, something Ivy doesn’t know how she ended up in it. But the more time they spend together, the more their relationship starts to change into something deeper but will it be enough to change Ivy’s mind about them being together?… And will Kai finally open up about his feelings?…
If you are looking for a fun, entertaining read look no further than The Girl Next Door, this may be a quick read but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t pack a mighty punch, once again we meet characters that are truly unique and quirky and all with a tale to tell. Ms Hart certainly knows how to give us fun people we can relate too.
Ivy discovers she is pregnant from one night with her neighbour Kai and she assumes the worst, that he will want nothing more to do with her or their baby, how wrong could she be ……
A enjoyable, funny, entertaining read that had me laughing out loud and left me smiling like a Cheshire Cat, I loved everything about this story, the characters are strong, sassy, they have chemistry and are down right adorable. This romantic comedy will appeal to all romance lovers and all that’s left for me to say is please pick up this gem of a read.
Such a delightful entertaining read! Where the characters feel like old friends.
Kai is swoony, Ivy is rather endearing and these two are a match made in romance heaven.
This book was hilarious, witty, heartwarming, refreshing and incredibly easy to read, that I read it in a day!
After a one night stand little do these two know what’s ahead of them. Of course like anything unexpected, the nerves and sense of unease creep in but these two get along so well together,it’s difficult to imagine them being with anyone else.
Can these two put their hearts on the line and go after what they truly desire?
Loved it to bits. Would highly recommend this book and am over the moon for more of the series to come.
A feel good rom com that will touch your heart!
Kai Connors is shocked when he finds out he knocked up the beautiful Ivy Stuart, a girl he has a raging schoolboy crush on. Everyone knows Kai has feelings for Ivy except Ivy. Will Kai get his girl?
The Girl Next Door is a funny, drama-filled and steamy rom-com

Yaaaassss!
I loved Ivy and Kai after meeting them in the short, The One Night Stand Next Door, but now I ADORE them. This was fun, quick fake relationship – opps I’m pregnant – read that I absolutely devour in no time flat and has me totally looking making grabby hands at the upcoming Bookworm series!
Ivy and Kai were so easy to fall into adoration with. Ivy is all kinds of sassy, snarky and just plain fun. She may have moments of crazy, but she also has a way of looking at situations in a realistic (more or less) way. Kai is all kinds of goodness. Seriously. ALL. KINDS. OF. GOODNESS. He’s just a good man who steps up to the plate and does what needs to be done.
Their journey to the HEA was all kinds of fun. I loved how they both dealt with the ‘Surprise! I’m pregnant’ issue and ended up actually being quite in sync with how they dealt with the aftermath of it ~ even if they did go to a bit of an extreme at times depending on who they were dealing with. I loved their bantering and the chemistry between them was hard to deny. The angst between them was on the very low end of the spectrum and loved how everything turned out for them.
This really was a fun read and all the characters were awesome ~ Grandma Rosie is definitely one of a kind ~ and I am totally looking forward to getting to each of them a whole lot better in the Bookworm series!

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I sped through this book! I really enjoyed Ivy and Kai’s story, it was light and fluffy and lots of fun. They’re both easily likeable characters and even though there’s a whole fake relationship to try and put her crazy Grandma at ease, you just know its going to work out for these two.
I really hope to read more about their friends too, as there is a great friendship circle in this book.
A great one to read if you’re looking for something sweet, light and fun. Recommend this!
The Girl Next Door is a great read. The One Night Stand Next Door is a short prequel to this one. You don’t have to read it to enjoy this one but if you want to read about the fun that got Ivy and Kai into the spot they are in this one then you should read the prequel.
Ivy is a great a girl. She’s fun. Her grandmother is crazy and causes Ivy to blurt things out to please her. Kai is the sexy neighbor that Ivy had a one night stand with. She has been avoiding him after until she gets a positive pregnant test. Kai is sweet and nice. He has a crush on Ivy but she brushes him off a lot. These two go from pretending they are dating to pretending they are engaged to pretending the got married. I was so hoping that they would make it all real and no more pretending.
The reason I love Emma’s books is she creates characters with such amazing personalities. Each one is unique, sassy, loveable & of course hilarious. The banter is always top notch.
I spent the entire book with a grin on my face. It was such a fun, lighthearted, witty read! I loved these two so much, I loved the surprise baby, the secondary characters so basically the entire book.
Haha
The only thing I wished was that there was more to the ending. I needed more of these two! If you love romcoms you will love this book!
I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review.
