There is no dull moment. The emotions are raw and every words are written beautifully. That’s why her books are always on top of my list.

Again, this is an amazing story. This book was completely consumed me. It has so much feels. All emotions are portrayed vividly. So powerful and profound. I love Miller and Vi so much. They are loyal to each other and there love is one of a kind. It’s Unconditional. And there life success is very inspiring.
I read this book in one entire sitting and not wanting to put it down. I love this story from beginning to end. No doubt this is gonna be one of my latest favorite this year.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! and I can’t wait to read more story of the the Lost Boys !!
The Girl in the Love song is a coming of age, best friends to lovers, slow burn kind of story. I didn’t realise that the whole book would focus on Miller and Violet from early to late teens, but I absolutely loved that it did!
Miller and Violet meet unexpectedly one night when they are 13; then begins an epic love story.
Vi,” he said. That was another thing. He started calling me Vi. Which I sort of loved.
I loved this line, my daughter’s name is Violet and we call her Vi so it made me smile.
Do expect a lot of angst, heartbreak and emotional scenes in this book. Emma really takes us on a journey. It’s like she breaks us all into pieces but then slowly glues is back together lol. I mean what poor Miller had to endure just broke my heart. He was a strong lad but boy stubborn at times, but I guess because of what he’s been through it’s understandable. Violet was an amazing character, a breath of fresh air, but again although on the outside it looks like she had the perfect life, behind closed doors, it was anything but.
The secondary characters were immense as well. Holden and Ronan, another two lost boys, with a lot of private heartache deep down. I loved that Miller found these two outsiders and they became a wonderful threesome together. Oh and from now on I’m always going to ask myself
“What would Jeff Goldblum do?” Lol
Also, River my heart broke for him too. The pressures and stresses that teenagers go through, we see it in this story and he certainly has those.
Make sure you have plenty of tissues at ready when you read this story; it’s heart wrenching but equally as beautiful
*kindly received and Arc from Valentines Pr for an honest review*
The girl in the love song it’s a book that takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride with Violet and Miller. Being able to see their characters grow and evolve into young adults is simply amazing. To see their heartbreaks, their friendships, and support for each other. Their young love is uniquely shown throughout the book. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series take us.

Miller Stratton had nothing but with everything to lose. One fateful night brought him to Violet McNamara, a compassionate girl from a completely different world. The two lonely souls bonded and developed a friendship that they hoped would last a lifetime. As they grew up, the initial feelings turned into something more. Now they had to learn to face their fears or risk losing what they ever had.
If there’s one young hero I’d want to cocoon and keep save it’d be Miller. He was such a sweetheart and I loved him even though his virtuous nature sometimes made me wanted to shake him. I liked how Violet was smart and responsible, with a good level of insecurities to balance it.
Too late. I fell in love with my best friend and I’m too late.
I enjoyed the overall storyline. However, I felt the middle part was a little long and slow. But I loved the beginning and the ending which was both heartwarming and emotional. I also loved the other two characters and their friendship with Miller.
The Girl in the Love Song is a story of friendship and lifelong dreams. It would appeal to readers looking for friends to lovers, coming of age Romance.
Whenever I find out that Ms.Scott is releasing a new book I get so happy! As soon as the Lost Boys books were announced I could not contain my excitement for this first book! This story grabbed my attention from the very beginning and didn’t let go! I loved it so much!
Violet and Miller’s journey got to me and I felt every bit of it with them! I loved that these characters and their story brought out my emotions in many ways.
With The Girl in the Love Song, Ms.Scott has created another unforgettable read that has left it’s mark on my heart! I can’t wait for the next Lost Boys books!

Miller Stratton learned early that life is full of challenges. Retreating in his music, Miller knew he can only rely on himself, but when he befriends Violet McNamara, she becomes his one hope.
“Change is hard in the beginning, messy in the middle, and beautiful at the end.”
Told in dual POV, the story begins when Miller and Violet are only thirteen years old. With both experiencing their own problems, they find solace in each other. Having this friendship is vital to them, but different feelings and situations emerge causing complications.
“I’ll only hurt you if you let me,” he sang from beside me, the words pouring in my ear. My heart. “Call me friend but keep me closer.”
Miller is an absolute sweetheart with his unconditional love for Violet. Though there were times when he sacrificed too much for others, it spoke volumes about his character. There is a significant part that made me mad at a secondary character’s motives and it made my heart hurt even more for Miller. I liked Violet and understood how she wanted to experience certain high school moments, but then she also realized what is most important.
The Girl in the Love Song is a coming of age love story that captures the enduring need for hope. This book would appeal to those who want to experience the highs and lows of love and friendship.
I knew when I saw the title that I had to read this book. Then I read the blurb and knew it would be a story I’d love. I just want to say this story was even better than I imagined. Every time I read an Emma Scott book, I come away drenched in emotions. Everytime I fall in love with her writing even more than the last.
Miller and Vi have a very hard and slippery path to one another. Miller was diagnosed with a disease at 13 that requires all his attention, but Vi is the girl to give him just the attention he needs. However, they have one very big hurdle to jump… friendship.
The emotions and angst is very high in this book. Miller and Vi will bring you to your knees and lift you to the sky. Just be prepared to be in every position possible in between because you’ll be on the rollercoaster of emotions with this one.
I can’t wait for the next stories in this series. This is definitely a top read for me and I know the next one will be great, if not even better!
Emotional, angsty, young love. Childhood best friends to forever love that’s the basis of this story featuring the fabulous couple, Violet and Miller. Violet is a nerdy teen with her future map out as a doctor when the homeless boy stumbles out of the woods and into her heart. Vi is the muse for Miller’s budding songwriting and she mesmerized by the beautiful boy. Their relationship is an angsty love fraught with hidden feelings and mistimed realizations. It takes a while for the two to get on the same page and in the meantime their parents are not very parental. It seems that horrible parents are currently a theme in stories and this one has some doozies. Vi’s parents have a terrible relationship and a secret that isn’t revealed until late in the story and affects Vi’s future. Miller has a mother trying her best but missing the mark and a father that’s MIA. I loved Violet and her relentless passion for knowledge especially the kind that helps Miller with his health issue. She turns from the nerdy young girl into a strong, sweet young woman that reaches for her future with both hands. She’s a terrific heroine. But the star is the poor young musician that writes from a heart that belongs to Violet. He’s a dream hero with his tortured songwriting persona and the school bullying target. Until he befriends the other loners, Ronan and Holden, and the Lost Boys are born. The guys friendship is terrific and I can’t wait for Ronan and Holden stories. Vi best girlfriend, Shiloh, is another fantastic character. This story was a little too angsty for me and there are a lot of elements to the story. I think some were pieces that will fit into future stories but seemed incomplete in this one. This was emotional all the way to the end with the separation of the lovers and Miller’s continued health issues that culminated into a life or death situation. The resolution was interesting and not too much of a surprise. I love this author’s emotional love stories but this one was maybe a little too young for me. It was intensely emotional with a few heartbreaking moments that kept in in suspense. A great start to the Lost Boys series and the hints of what’s to come with Ronan and Holden left me wanting more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.

Have you ever had a book where early on you think “I don’t know about this?” or “Is the author really going THERE?” but as you keep reading you end up discovering a book that is impactful, intriguing, and enjoyable? That was The Girl in the Love Song for me. If I had to review the book at 30% or 40%, the results would have been very different than where I ended up.
Miller and Violet meet at 13 and form a unique and special friendship. When we reconnect with them their senior year in high school things are in a state of high conflict. Ms. Scott does an excellent job of crafting characters that are likeable even as they deal with the pettyness that surrounds high school. We get a good glimpse into some of the issues that both are dealing with behind the scenes that craft their views on their ever changing friendship. A strong supporting cast (who will hopefully be appearing in books of their own) help develop these interesting personalities.
Ms Scott touches on several potentially difficult issues. We see very young people dealing with the realities of homelessness, medical conditions, and unstable home situations all while navigating the quicksand of being a high school senior or very young adult. These issues are handled with grace, I found myself coming to just the edge of uncomfortable before being pulled back and proud of/impressed by how the characters dealt with their hurdles.
After being a bit worried about the direction the story was going, I ended up really enjoying The Girl in the Love Song. I hope to see more of Miller and Violet and their friends in future books.
Emma Scott could write anything and I’d be the first to read! I adored this book! I wish I could give it way more than 5 stars!!!
So many feels. Be prepared! I felt my heart go through lots of ups and downs. ES can write one heck of an emotional story!
Miller and Violet’s friends to lovers book is filled with struggles, hope and so much love!
Highly recommend!!!
Emma Scott has poured her heart into The Girl in the Love Song. This book is bursting at the seams with the tender, loving care she put into the these characters, the beautiful songs that were written and the way they come together to make a fully immersive reading experience.
We meet Miller and Violet at thirteen and even at such a young age, you just know their feelings are real. Their friendship is so beautiful and profoundly loyal. As they grow they become ever closer and their love, oh their love…even as unrequited as it was early on, they were just so perfect for one another. Violet was such a wonderful heroine. She stood up for what she believed in and never let others dictate how she felt. She was so admirable. Miller was incredibly amazing, always fighting to make something of himself and just trying so hard to protect the ones he loves in spite of his circumstances. As they’re both tested by the world around them, their strength, determination and the love and trust they have for one another keeps them pushing to encourage the other to fulfill their dreams.
The supporting characters Miller and Violet were surrounded by were so fascinating! Emma’s character development of them was the perfect tease to keep you wanting more. They most definitely have their own struggles and Emma did not hesitate to bring important social issues into this storyline, ones these characters will have to face in upcoming books. I’m really looking forward to see where they all end up throughout the Lost Boys series.
Every now and then a story comes along that deserves more than the five stars we’re allowed to give. Well, The Girl in the Love Song just happens to be that story, and if I could give it ten stars, I’d do so without even thinking twice. The story was THAT good!
Young adult romance sure seems to be making a come back and I’m so happy. Emma Scott has written such a beautiful, soul-touching story and I’ll be honest–I didn’t want the story to end. I wanted to keep on reading about Miller and Vi long after the final page. Violet was such a caring person and the friendship that she and Miller have is magical. It became more of a journey of discovering each other, caring for one another, being there for another. Truly, The Girl in the Love Song has everything you’re looking for in a story!!
It’s amazing how much you can learn and take in from two young adults. From the first chapter all the way to the last one, I loved every single word. Emma Scott has written one of the most beautiful stories I’ve had the pleasure of reading this year and I think every reader will find something special to take from it. Captivating words that will warm your heart and soul. Brilliant!!
Heavy on emotion and substance— as if ES could do anything less— this is another Emma Scott classic. Miller stumbles into Violet’s yard (and life) on her 13th birthday. Their friendship grows as they do… and so do their love and feelings for each other.
However, each keeps aspects of their lives at arm’s length to protect their hearts (unfortunately, to their detriment). Still, they’re just perfect/right together. Watching them go through the trials and tribulations of high school— and some manipulation by side characters— made my heart ache.
The other “Lost Boys” were presented, and I assume that each will get his own book… and I cannot freaking wait. But I’ll have to because Emma isn’t a machine and quality books take time… and ES doesn’t know how to write anything but.
This book played with my emotions the entire time! It was a beautiful, heartbreaking and powerful friends to lovers story, Miss Scott has a way with words that will blow you away, I can’t wait for the next book!
This coming of age romance story is Emma Scott at her best!
Breathtaking and hauntingly beautiful, this insightful and thought provoking story is so much more than a teenage, rock star romance.
This read was brimming with passion and emotions.
Miller and Violet’s story is an exquisite story of love and hope when the odds are stacked against you. Of how sometimes we have to go through terrible loss to make tremendous gains.
Miller and Violet’s friendship started when they were 13 years old and followed a series of life changing events that made them incredible young adults.
Flawlessly written with characters that were so realistic and relatable, even the secondary characters gave the story more depth and complexity.
A series of traumatic events were addressed and articulated with grace, accuracy and integrity. More importantly, this read took me on an emotional and passionate journey where I couldn’t stop reading to see where their story took them.
As their friendship evolved and developed into something else, so did my adoration for these unique characters.
It was refreshing to read about young characters who were flawed, and non a holy.
I couldn’t help loving Holden, Roland, and Shiloh. Even Evelyn grew on me…
At the end I felt completely satisfied with how the story concluded, and I cannot wait to discover what this magical author has in story for book 2!!
5 stars are not enough to rate this book and it is a must must read!!
The Girl in the Love Song is exactly why I love contemporary romance books. This is definitely a YA/NA book but it is one that I think anyone who reads contemporary romance will enjoy.
This was my first book my Emma Scott (I know, I know – scold me later). And after reading this, I am really not sure why I have not before but this will definitely not be my last.
The blurb of this book gives you a small glimpse of what this book is about but this book is so much more. This story covers from when Violet and Miller first meet and continues on through becoming adults. Emma does a phenomenal job of setting the perfect pace with these two from start to finish.
Emma wrote this story beautifully with amazing characters. She introduces them all in a way that you won’t ever forget any of them but none of the secondary characters overpower the main characters. The mannerisms and characteristics fit the characters and their age very well, which makes this book so much relatable on different levels.
What I love so much about this story though was feelings expressed and life lessons taught throughout this story. I am not sure if Emma attempted to do this but they there. They feelings of empathy, compassion, love, hurt and anger. The life lessons of seeing beyond what people present themselves as, staying true to who you are, taking risks and never giving up. This book is so much more than story of love and for that, I love this book that much more.
Emma – thank you for writing a story that touched me in ways I had not expected. This book was so much more than the surface read that I had anticipated it to be. I am looking forward to what you bring us next with these Lost Boys.
Leave it to Emma Scott to pull at my emotions as she always does. Her stories are always some of my favorites as she has a way of opening my eyes to something much deeper than what’s on the surface. After only a few chapters in, I knew this book would bring out certain emotions in me. I quickly realized that I would be relating to one of her characters on a personal level. While some parts of the book brought me to tears others gave me a renewed sense of hope and left me smiling wide. Once again this author has filled my heart up and left me anxiously waiting for her next story. Five stars!!!
Oh my heart!!!! There’s a reason why Emma Scott is one of my go-to, Unicorn authors….The Girl in the Love Song is a perfect example of everything I love about her writing! The character development is on point, the FEELS I always get (you know the ones I’m talking about, the ones that make you feel like you’ve just come out the other side after following a maze with plenty of twists and turns wondering if you’ll EVER get out….and then BOOM, you’re there), the ANGST that has me rubbing my heart to try to ease the pressure just a little bit… and the AMAZING, PERFECT ending that could have ended soooooo very differently! My heart is so FULL with love for Miller and Violet! And can I just say the cast of characters that we meet along with the Miller and Violet are just as intriguing as they are! Especially Holden, River and Ronan.
This one had me hooked right from the first chapter, from the very beginnings of young love wrapped in the “best friends” cloak through the heartbreak of the loss of things that rock emotional foundations to dealing with some pretty heavy “grown up” issues to the AMAZING epilogue that just made me want MORE!
Once again, Ms. Scott’s words have been embedded in my heart, left me gasping at the magnitude of the emotions coursing through my veins and touched my very soul with a love story so pure, so perfectly IMperfect….truly UNFORGETTABLE!
Review:
From beginning to end I loved this story. All the emotions would jump from the pages. I couldn’t put this book down, and I don’t want it to end. I wanted to keep reading about Violet and Millers life’s. It all started on Violet’s 13th birthday where they formed a connection. This is a to book, and I absolutely loved reading it. This is the first book I have read by Emma Scott and she made a new reader in me. I can’t wait for the next books in this series.
Violet and Miller are so perfect together. They became friends at 13, and had so many ups in downs in their relationship that for a second I thought they weren’t going to make it.
Violet thought that she needed to protect her heart since she didn’t have a great example of love. She made sure she would never experience heart break. Her and Miller made a pact that they wouldn’t let anything come between their friendship even love.
Miller has a hard life from the beginning. He doesn’t trust easily and thinks everyone is going to leave him. Until he meets Violet and forms an instant connection with her. He knows what he wants but is scared to ruin the relationship he has with Violet.
Holy crap!! This book is everything and then some and what I come to know is going to be amazing when Ms. Scott is writing it! And I was for sure not disappointed! Right from the start my heart fell for Miller and Violet. Two best friends and it just blossomed from there! All the angst and love and emotion I love from Ms. Scott included! My heart after reading this book, I tell you. Just these two!! <3
