First time reading this talented author and not the last! Loved this gripping page turner and DCI Ericka Foster and looking forward to reading more in this engrossing serial killer series. Highly recommend!
My first experience reading Robert Bryndza’s work will definitely not be my last! The Girl in the Ice starts with a unique, creative premise and quickly develops into a thoroughly intriguing mystery that keeps readers guessing right up to the end. The body of a young woman is discovered beneath a thick layer of in a South London park and Detective Erika Foster is tapped to lead the investigation. Foster has been out of commission recently following the death of her husband and four other officers while executing a search that went tragically wrong. Foster blames herself and is mourning the loss of the love of her life, struggling to learn how to move on with her career and personal life. The victim is a young socialite from a wealthy and politically powerful family. Why she would have been in the neighborhood where her body was discovered is only the first question Foster is determined to answer. Soon, she finds links to three other unsolved murders and the target of someone who does not want her to find the killer(s). Bryndza leads readers on a fact-paced, multi-layered investigation as Foster bucks the orders of her superiors and her own inner demons while trying to respect and follow the clues provided both by her finely honed investigative instincts and the kind of intuition that only develops with experience. Along the way, she manages to stirr up the media, police brass, politicians . . . and eventually track the killer. Bryndza also influses the story with a wide variety of colorful, quirky supporting characters that keep the story interesting and enough clues to compel readers onward without spoiling the surprising conclusion.
Thanks to NetGalley for an Advance Reader’s Copy of the book!
I like police procedurals and I find there are some really good ones from the UK. This is one of them. Lots of twists, very well written, intriguing plot, what’s not to like? Good book
What a Book…. phew. I’m still catching my breath. Erika Foster is on my list of favorite detectives… so flawed, so brilliant. Bring on the next!
Have read several of his books about Detective Erika Foster. His female characters are smart, good at what they do & his books are always interesting people. Also read a lot of Karen Slaughter.
Erik Foster is a DCI who has suffered the loss of her husband and other officers in a gone wrong raid. She has been out but is called in to investigate the death of a young girl from an affluent family because she has a great track record for solving crimes. This dead girl’s family has many secrets that are finally disclosed in the last few fast paced chapters. Enjoyed this book.Believable characters and some political social economical issues .
I really think this book was pretty well written, but lordy, I hated many of the characters…all the suspects were the worst, and even the “good” were tough to take! We finally find out who did the dead and it was for the worst of all possible reasons. I had to read it to the end, though, so that shows you I thought the book had a bit of redeeming value, too. It was a toss up and maybe you should read it for yourself!
With her career in the balance, Detective Erika Foster must join the dots to identify who who killed the girl frozen beneath the ice. It’s a good read and I’m moving on to the next book in the series.
I adore protagonists who refuse to take no for an answer. The protagonist of this novel, Detective Erika Foster, is determined to break through the barriers created by a politically powerful family and even her own boss, to do the right thing and identify a serial killer who has been preying on immigrant women for years. She’s even willing to risk her own life when it comes to her quest, which makes for suspenseful reading.
Believable characters, kept my interest. I really like British police novels for their wit and character.
He is one of my favorite authors and I was not disappointed.
