The safe choice can be the riskiest of all… Florida. She didn’t plan to ditch her sputtering car and accept a ride from Brinn McRae. But she didn’t plan to be attracted to a straight-laced guy like him either, much less land in his hometown, Daytona Beach…
A self-made man with a tough past, Brinn is a workaholic who allows very little room for pleasure—until he meets Josie. Their powerful chemistry is a distraction neither wants, yet neither can resist. Hoping they can burn it off, Brinn agrees to a no-strings arrangement. But they can only hide their deepening feelings for so long—until a disaster strikes, exposing truths that threaten to ruin everything…
Now, not only will Josie have to contend with the troubling secret her brother has finally revealed—she’ll have to convince Brinn she’s more than a rich girl playing at being free. This time, she’s playing for keeps.

I loved Josie and Brinn’s story. As with the series what starts as no strings turns to more. Each character has personal struggles to overcome and decisions to make for themselves. But they can’t deny their draw to each other and their chemistry. I love their banter. Looking forward to more from this series.
The second in a trilogy, this book is well written with appealing characters and a compelling plot. Josie Woodmere grew up, expected by her parents to join the family law firm. However, when her big brother Will disappears, she felt lost. After graduating from Yale with a BA in business management and law degree, and two broken engagements, she felt she did not belong in the life her parents expected of her and took off to find Will, never staying anywhere too long, before she could make attachments. However, when an email from Will leads her to Florida she ends up in Daytona, where she finally does make real connections, with her first BFF, Jayne and friend with benefits, Brinn McRae, who rescues her when her car breaks down. Will she finally allow herself to build a home with the people who she has come to care about and care about her, or will her fears prevent her from settling down?
I reads this series our of order (3, 2, and then 1), but each can be read as a stand alone. Strangely though, this one takes place before the first book.
Solid Prequel. Yes, this is Book 2 of the trilogy, but really it is better thought of as a prequel, since much of what happens in Book 1 and Book 3 happens in somewhat direct response to what happens in this book. We meet the leading lady of Book 3 early in this one, and the leading lady of Book 1 is introduced in the epilogue – along with a mention of the male lead from Book 3. Enjoyable, without quite the drama Book 1 in particular had.
This one is a great rollercoaster read. All the romance and summer vibes make this another great beach read. Brin and Josie’s couldn’t be more different but as you know opposites attract. But when things go rough will Josie yet again run away? I loved the story of all the family drama, the girlfriends, the funny side. But also a book has a deeper side that shows us that even when life goes rough with the right people by your side everything is possible.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the chemistry that Brinn and Josie had, and liked watching their relationship develop into something with more substance over the period of time that they worked (and played) together. They were complete opposites, and while they complemented one another in many ways, I found Brinn to be the character that I could really admire. Yes, he needed to loosen up a bit, but his work ethic, stability, and selflessness drew me in from the start. Everyone who knew him seemed to know that he was trustworthy and that they could count on him. I’ve always been a sucker for the strong silent type too, so there’s that.
Josie, on the other hand, was “free-spirited,” flitted from one job to another, one city to another, one relationship to another, leaving whenever things became difficult or uncomfortable, never staying anywhere long enough to develop any meaningful relationships. The one thing I found to admire about her, her way-above-average intelligence, was totally ruined by her horrible potty mouth. Fortunately, we saw her use her intelligence in her day job , whipping the office into shape with her outstanding organizational skills. What kept me turning pages was the hope that she would grow up, and realize the good things right in front of her. That growth in her maturity made the book worth reading to me, and seeing she and Brinn (and she and her brother Will) opening up and allowing themselves to be vulnerable.
Even though I had a hard time liking Josie (and her language) through most of the book, it was entertaining, I was glad to see the growth in her and see her get her happy ending, and I do feel that Ms. Rose is very skilled at storytelling. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley, and am giving my voluntary and honest opinion.
Josie is running from her past and looking for her missing brother. Brinn is looking forward to buy his dream business and keep his steady life. Can two people so different find a common ground and have a happily ever after?
A heartfelt story about family, friendship and love. The Girl He Needs is full of intensity, passion and witty humor. I was unable to put it down until finished. This is a Great read and my first from Kristi Rose. I am looking froward to reading more from her.
I love the character of Josie and how Kristi wrote her as a strong, intelligent and a true spirit. It is refreshing to read a story where the female lead is a force to be reckoned with. The chemistry between her and Brinn is amazingly addicting and right on point.
