This story is fascinating, and it will hold your attention all the way to the end. I felt sorry for Mia for most of this book, and then WOW! The ending is so unexpected, and I cannot write more about it. This is not to be spoiled. Enjoyable, consistent moving, and shocking!
Waking up in the water on the beach in Bournemouth, England, a young woman struggles not only to remember how she got there, but who she is. Her mind a complete blank, and suffering from exposure, dehydration, and a head injury, she ends up in hospital awaiting the results of tests and hoping a clue will emerge to her missing past.
However, as people from her life begin showing up, filling in details from her past, she begins to wonder if they are telling her the truth, and if not, why?
A gripping tale of searching for the truth and discovering secrets that are better kept hidden.
Throughout this story, the author weaves a tale of intrigue and psychological suspense. Each person in Mia’s life, seems suspect as the story unfolds and each has their own secret reasons for keeping her from the truth.
I was riveted by this story, a true page turner with a shocking, unpredictable twist. Ms. Boland has outdone herself.
Did not expect this book! The writing left me wanting to keep reading. I started this book about 1pm and finished it at 4pm. This was an amazing story. When you get to the end you will question what have you just read. When love goes wrong….it can go really, really wrong. A must read if you like suspense. Great for fans of mystery and twists that make you want to finish this Book to find out the end!
Excellent psychological thriller full of twists and turns, love this author.
Buckle up for a mind boggling thriller of a ride.
Mia has been found on shore and has no memory of who she is.
Her boyfriend, or is he, identifies her as Mia James.
Thus starts her new life , trying to figure out her past, her future. Who can she trust.
Twists and turns you won’t see coming. You might suspect but you won’t be 100 per cent right.
I will certainly be adding to my to read list with more of Shalini Boland’s books.
Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Girl from the Sea.
Another fantastic psychological thriller from Shalini Boland!
Mia is discovered on a deserted beach unable to remember anything including who she is. We slowly get to know those around her while she desperately struggles to remember. When snippets of the past begin to return, Mia experiences paralyzing fear and no one around her seems to be who they appear to be. Then the story completely twists back on itself in a stunning conclusion.
She comes to on a beach. How did she get there? What happened to her? When paramedics arrive she can’t answer anyone’s questions. She doesn’t know her name. She doesn’t know where she lives. Maybe the injury to the back of her head is causing the memory loss.
While in the hospital, her boyfriend shows up.. at least that’s what he says. And he does have pictures of them together. He says her name is Mia.
But the boyfriend may not be her boyfriend. She feels absolutely no connection to him at all. She does feel a little something for Jack, a man she has met before, but has no memory of. And he is married.
She’s contacted by her mother and sister .. but something is a bit off kilter there, as well.
Why does she feel that everyone is lying to her? What are they hiding?
When you don’t even know who you are, how do you know who to trust?
This is an excellent psychological thriller. The suspense starts on the first page and holds fast until the very last explosive ending…. an ending I never saw coming.
The characters are credible and they all have issues. Mia’s issue is her obvious loss of memory, but she seems changed from the ‘old’ Mia. The boyfriend gave me the willies .. he seemed awfully controlling and manipulating. Jack is almost too good to be true. Her mother and sister were greedy people who only were after her money.
Plenty of suspects .. lots of motivation for murder..but who really wanted her dead?
Many thanks to the author / Adrenalin Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this highly suspenseful thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Shalini Boland can weave a story! An excellent read! I am now reading all her books! I love to find a new author!!!! Enjoy the Read!
This book had all the twists and turns you’d hope for in a psychological thriller. I enjoyed the setting as it is close to my home town and Mia’s character had me asking questions throughout. I don’t really want to say anymore as it may give away the ending, which is a corker.
A woman comes to after being rescued at sea with no memory of herself or the people who claim to be in her life. She learns she enjoys sailing and an inheritance has left her quite wealthy. Almost immediately, there’s a distrust for the boyfriend and an attraction to a sailing instructor. She’s also having visions of an angry woman. I really enjoy a storyline with an unreliable narrator, so that kicked up the tension, and together with the unexpected twist at the end made this a satisfying psychological suspense.
