Maria left her boyfriend after turning down his proposal of marriage for Ireland to research the artist Michael McCarty and Ballymore where a painting of his use to hang many years ago. In her research, she finds out about the McCarty family and the tragedy that that befelled the family. I enjoyed how this book would go back in time to tell of all the McCarty family had been through but still stay current on Maria’s situation. A book you will want to stay up at night to read.
Great story, great characters. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
Enjoyable.
While I understand why a lot of readers would find this story amazing and worthy of four and five stars, I just can’t agree. While I did read the entire book, I found the story lines very depressing and kept reading hoping it would get better – but it never did.
I really enjoyed this book as it touched on so much of the Irish history that I am interested in!
If you love romances set in Ireland, you’ll enjoy this!
It was ok, but felt predictable to me. Didn’t really hold my interest whole other books took priority.
Loved it. Read it twice. Wished there was more!!
Authentic fictionalized story of life during the Irish famine years.
Enjoyable read
Good read that has a bit of mystery, romance, and decent characters.
Enjoyable read
I enjoyed this story of a woman who goes about trying to find out about her ancestors and how that helps her solve the problems in her life. I liked the book going back and forth between present day and her ancestor’s life. What terrible lives they lived.
Loved it. Good example of a tragic historic time.
Love the book!
Growing up with Irish Grandparents who emigrated from Ireland, I found it very informative about the famine.
Love reading about different cultures and especially when coupled with character driven stories!

While this is a work of fiction, it brings to the 21st century the horrors of the Irish famine and those who were affected the most by it.
