“The perfect romance or beach read, with a difference: its enthusiasm and beautiful descriptions offer an unexpected attention to the complexity of not just evolving love, but evolving psyches. It’s a delightful recommendation for romance readers looking for a touch more complexity from their romance reads.”–Midwest Book Review (For Now and Forever)THE GHOSTLY GROUNDS: MURDER AND BREAKFAST is … GROUNDS: MURDER AND BREAKFAST is the debut novel in a charming new cozy mystery series by bestselling author Sophie Love, author of The Inn at Sunset Harbor series, a #1 Bestseller with over 200 five-star reviews.
Marie Fortune, 39, a successful dog groomer in Boston, has had enough of catering to the wealthy and their pampered dogs. Realizing it is time to make a change, she quits and heads to a small coastal town in Maine where she remembers fond summers as a kid. Marie expects to go for a brief getaway—and is shocked to learn that her great-aunt left her an inheritance: a dilapidated, historic house high up on a hill overlooking the harbor.
Marie feels an instant connection. Although the locals tell her it would be folly, Marie decides to renovate and give it a second life as a B&B.
But there is one thing she couldn’t have planned for: the house is haunted.
Two things, actually: her great-aunt also left her a dog—and he is far from a typical dog.
When an unexpected death occurs soon thereafter, solving the crime will be more than just a matter of curiosity for Marie—her very future may depend on it.
A page-turning cozy, packed with mystery, love, hauntings, travel, pets and food—anchored around a small town and a B&B in need of renovation that will capture your heart—THE GHOSTLY GROUNDS is an un-putdownable cozy that will keep you turning pages (and laughing out loud) late into the night.
“The romance is there, but not overdosed. Kudos to the author for this amazing start of a series that promises to be very entertaining.”

Loved everyone in the book…and the dog, Boo, too! Bought the next several books in the series
Nice
I enjoyed this book but it could have used some editing. I got disoriented a couple of times when he went to his room and the next sentence is they are pacing and having a conversation. Or it’s been only 4 hours and a couple paragraphs later it’s only been 2 hours as well as several typos. These are not a huge deal but they make me pause and reread to determine what was meant. But the story itself is entertaining and I plan to read subsequent stories in the series.
Don’t usually read ghost stories but this was light, entertaining and enjoyable.
It was ok. I pretty much enjoyed it.
I wouldn’t say unpredictible, just unexpected. Interesting cast of characters. Could have done without her ex popping up every now and then. But it did leave the door open for more stores and for him to create problems. Nice haunted house read.
Ghosts are the underlying theme of this whimsical book, including a ghost-busting dog! Marie inherits a gothic-style beach house when her ninety-eight year old Great Aunt June dies. Since Marie just broke up with her boyfriend and quit her job, this seems like the perfect time to chase her childhood dream of running a bed and breakfast. Everyone in Port Bliss believes the old house is haunted, but Marie goes ahead with renovations and sets up a web site. She doesn’t get many reservations until Brendan Peck, a well-known ghost hunter, captures and posts online a ghostly image. Running the bed and breakfast has its own set of problems, including a murder. Marie tends to spend a lot of time n town drinking hot chocolate or walking her dog, so her role is not portrayed in a realistic way at all. The other characters are one-note depictions, but the book is a good Friday night read.
Looking forward to ore in series
Book was easy reading. Will read others by her.
Cute cozy book. Comfortable.
I am reading this one now.
A quick entertaining read! A relaxing mystery that caught my interest immediately and kept me reading nonstop until the end.
This book is trite and with a very unsophisticated plot. Simplistic language. Also very poorly copy edited. Lots of typos which drives me crazy.
Good read . A real page turner. Keeps you guessing to the very end.
Herky-Jerky. Ends abruptly with a Whine.
This was a fun book. I enjoyed the characters and found it to be realistic. I actually read it in a single day. Just had to see what was going to happen.
I enjoyed this cozy mystery!
Save me from “cozy” books.
Luved it
