Charming Walt Marlow … Walt Marlow convinces Danielle the only way he can move on is if she solves the mystery of his death. Danielle soon discovers her real problems may come from the living—those who have their sights on Marlow House’s other secrets.

Cozy mystery lovers can’t get enough of these stories! This is the first book of the series and introduces you to Danielle and Walt, the charming ghost who haunts the seaside home Danielle has inherited. Each book features a unique and compelling plot. Can you read just one???
Very fun book with some great characters. The ghost in the story was awesome and had some unique abilities that I haven’t seen in other stories. Really fun read!
I received a copy of this book for free for a review. This was fantastic! It grabbed my attention and didn’t let go till the end. I will be reading more by Bobby Holmes.
Love Walt Marlow; good characters. Easy read that kept me engaged. I’ll read the rest of the series.
This was a splendid Cozy mystery. The characters were nicely developed, the ghost was an excellent plot bunny, the bad guys were bad but more slimy than dangerous, the plot was well thought-through and executed. I’m plunging onward into the series.
I enjoy audiobooks, and found this one to be an entertaining listen while on my daily walks. I found myself going for extra minutes just to listen to another couple fo chapters. Win/win
I love old houses and used to live in a four-story built in 1898, and I found myself picturing my old house as Danielle began to renovate Marlowe House into a B&B and encounters Walt Marlowe, the ghost who comes along with her inheritance.
I also love dual time-lines, and although this is set in the present, there’s plenty of history to go along with the story behind the story.
The first in the series, The Ghost of Marlowe House will captivate you with its quirky cast of characters, wonderful seaside setting, and easy to follow plot line as the story unfolds (nothing worse than losing track of who did what, when, and how) I look forward to the next in the series.
Cozy mystery/ghost story lovers will devour this book–and there are several more in the series to keep the ghostly connection going!
Danielle Boatman inherits Marlow House in Oregon and starts turning it into a seaside bed and breakfast. Danielle has never been in Marlow House and comes face to face with the previous owner that is a ghost, Walter Marlow who has been dead for almost ninety years. This has comedy, suspense and Danielle works on solving a cold case for Walter Marlow maybe to help him move on. Danielle and a neighbor’s dog are the only one’s who can see Walter. I enjoy stories like this and look forward to more of them.
I wasn’t sure about this book, but I love old houses, ghost stories, and seaside B&B’s, and what an entertaining story it turned out to be! When Danielle inherits the historic house in Oregon, she also inherits the ghost of a previous owner. Delightfully amusing, the ghost who has been dead for nearly a century, begins a dialogue with Danielle and together they solve the mystery of his death. Such fun!
This is a fun who Dun it! The characters are great and some fun twist.
Danielle Boatman and her friend Lily arrive at
the Marlow House. Danielle has inherited the
house from her Aunt. She plans to turn it into
a bed and breakfast. What she did not account
for was the ghost of Walt Marlow to still be
present in the house.
Danielle has a gift of being able to see and
communicate with ghosts. She needs to prove
that Walt Marlow was murdered and didn’t
commit suicide. Not an easy task after soooo
many years have past.
There is also a mystery about a priceless
necklace being hidden in the Marlow House.
This brings some unsavory happenings.
Cleverly crafted, well defined and interesting
characters involved in two puzzling mysteries.
Imagine sharing your home with a ghost. You’d probably want him to leave, right? So did Danielle.
Recently widowed Danielle Boatman inherits a home – and a ghost – that will soon change her life. We meet Danielle on the beginning of this journey along with her best friend, Lily, and the summer neighbor, Ian. After seeing her grandmother shortly after she died when Danielle was a child, our protagonist realized that she was cursed with a peculiar gift. She can see the occasional dead person, including the one living in her new home. It’s up to Danielle to help him make peace with his death so that he can move on, and we get to go on the adventure with her.
It Feels New Yet Familiar.
From the very beginning, the author creates warm, friendly characters that you want to like (even those that are dead.) I found myself wanting to know more backstory to the characters not because the author didn’t do a proper job at including this but because I fell in love with them.
Some of the situations do at times seem a little cheesy, but when reading a cozy mystery you really want that level of lightness to pop in every now and again. Heavy is not what we are seeking in this genre. The characters are wonderful, and the description of Marlow House is beautifully executed.
I really enjoyed the twist of concept that Ms. Holmes used within this book. It was a mystery that allows the reader to go through the “who dunnit” cycle, but in a very unique way. You are searching for the truth about a murder from nearly one hundred years before our story takes place. The jog toward the murderer takes us through the people in the town via their descendants in some cases, and it’s very entertaining.
It was truly a welcomed experience to read through this book (even if it was only a few days!)
Great Series for Cozy Lovers
The Haunting Danielle series is a true cozy paranormal mystery in my book. It hits the high notes that a reader expects, and it skips the things that they don’t want like gore and heavy procedural moments. It’s great for a fairly quick read that entertains and distracts you from daily life.
I gave this one a five because as I was reading it, I told nearly everyone I talked to about the series. That’s a solid winner in my book. I did continue on in the series with book number two, and though it wasn’t quite as spectacular, it was a close second. I’ll be continuing on through the rest of the series between other scheduled reads over the course of the year.
Definitely check out this series if you are a fan of cozy mysteries. You won’t be disappointed.
Have read the entire series. What a fun read!!
Loved, Loved this series, clean and fun! read the whole thing!!! One of my favorite series cannot wait until the 17 comes out!
Walt doesn’t want to move on until he somehow proves that he didn’t commit suicide. Danielle helps him find out what happened and learns how she came to inherit the home Ian tries to help out too after they find out who he really is. good book not really scary
So excited to read more books in the series
Love this series! Highly recommend!!
Fun, clean, Cozy.
I enjoyed the ghost’s thoughts on 21st century styles and behaviors very much! quite a few laughs for me!!
This book was just the fun, engaging read I was looking for! I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery and the paranormal elements, and I look forward to reading more in this series.
It was a great story that actually had 2 mysteries combined. One was the question what happened to Walt Marlow, now the ghost of Marlow house and the other one was the hunt for the necklace.
My favourite character was definitely Walt Marlow who doesn’t realize that he isn’t alive anymore….
I enjoyed reading this book
