Amateur sleuth, PI in training, ghost whisperer. That’s me. Audrey Fitzgerald, ghost detective. I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that I can not only communicate with ghosts, but animals too. Well, one in particular, my big gray teddy bear of a cat, Thor. What I haven’t worked out yet is how to keep my newfound abilities a secret from the townsfolk of Firefly Bay.When I’m hired by the … Bay.
When I’m hired by the president of the local historical society to find a missing necklace, I figured I finally had a case that didn’t require ghostly interference. After all, how hard could it be to find a missing piece of jewelry? Things turn complicated real fast when the necklace turns up in the most unexpected of places and my client turns up dead.
Now I’m up to my neck in ghostly chatter, I have a murder to solve, my PI exams are looming, I’m worried I may have to put Thor on a diet, and I think I’ve accidentally fallen for Captain Cowboy Hot Pants—aka, Detective Kade Galloway. But worst of all? What on earth do I put on my business card without scaring off the townsfolk? Amateur sleuth, PI in training, ghost whisperer, or ghost detective?
Join Audrey Fitzgerald in the Ghost Detective series, a romantic paranormal cozy mystery featuring a talking cat, a ghost, and a murder to solve!

I cannot find the right words to let readers know how completely addictive and hysterical this series is. Ms. Hinchey has been one of my favorites for a long time. These characters take that to a whole different level. I don’t know how many times I had to put this down because I couldn’t stop laughing. Audrey is days away from taking her PI exam. She has also ‘labeled’ her relationship with Kade. If you add on a new case and a murder, she definitely has her hands full. The twists and turns will really keep you guessing. I thought I had it figured out at least three times. I was wrong…….every time. Audrey and Kade also took it up a notch, meeting the parents and a few (closed door) moments. The relationship between Fitz and Ben….it’s touching. It can make you smile and cry at the same time. Thor will always manage to steal a few minutes in each scene. As he should. Another amazing hit for this author and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next. I full heartedly recommend this series and the author.
I love the Ghost Detective series as it provides a whole heap of fun, easy to read entertainment. Audrey gets more loveable as time goes on. Audrey takes on what seems to be a simple missing neclace case, but it continues to grow in complexity, especially when her client Anita turns up dead. With Audrey and her ghost best friend on the case, there is sure to be shenanigans. Great cosy mystery for some escapsim from real life.
Another interesting and exciting adventure with Audrey, Ben, and Captain Cowboy Hotpants, aka Detective Kade Galloway. This time, Audrey finds herself trying to figure out who killed one of her clients, Anita Finley. Anita had hired Audrey to find a lost necklace, but it turns into so much more. Again, Audrey finds herself in the middle of a murder case, with two ghosts offering her guidance.
I love this series of books. They’re humorous, romantic, and page-turning. The mysteries are involving, keeping you guessing as to who really was behind the crime.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light, interesting, and comedic read.
I received an ARC of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Audrey is so fun – she is klutzy, cute as a button and actually solves cases despite herself! She has now passed her PI exam and is a full-fledged investigator. In her latest adventure, she finds herself searching for a lost diamond necklace, accidentally discovering a bigger crime regarding some artwork and involved in the murder of the Historical Society president. Fun to read, love the cast of characters and a series that I highly recommend.
Audrey Fitzgerald could not escape being around ghosts! With her love affair progressing and having taken a big step in her career Audrey was ready for more action and that was what she got. A robbery that turned into a murder! Two for one. An interesting and mysterious case that had me immerse in the drama following the clues and eager to know the outcome because nothing was as it seemed. Clumsy Fitz had more than one collaborator in this case and with a strong emotional charge. Liked the plot development with detailed narrations and descriptions and twists that kept me intrigued all the time. Lot of suspects, amusing scenes, a supportive family, romance, danger and ghosts’ help. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I enjoyed.
Once again Jane Hinchey has entertained and entranced me with some rather fun and interesting characters. This series is about Audrey, her best friend Ben and detective Kade who solve mysteries or murders. There is more to it than that. See Ben is Audrey’s best friend from childhood who now happens to also be a ghost ( you have to read book 1 to see how that happened) that only Audrey can see and talk to. That makes some pretty funny scenes in itself. Then there is Thor, Ben’s cat who Audrey has inherited, who can also talk and only Audrey can hear and oh the things that stinker of a cat says. Belly laughs are promised.
These four characters lead us through murder investigations, corrupt police, and some rather funny stories. This is the 3rd book in the series that has captured my attention and has me eagerly waiting for the next installment. Well written mysteries with well thought out plots and the best characters to discover the answers with. I can highly recommend this to all!
This is an excellent addition to the Ghost Detective series,. Audrey solves the case with the help of her friends, ghosts, and Thor the cat. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ghostly mysteries. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book ad insane voluntarily leaving a review.
Audrey Takes her PI Exam and Investigates a Murder
This is a mostly sweet and clean cozy type mystery. There is a little bit of cussing and some closed-door intimacy, but not bad. There are a few laugh-out-loud moments and many grins throughout the book. I have read all of this series, so far, and the books just keep getting better. I think a reader will enjoy it more if they read the series in order. I am ready for the next episode already! I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest opinion.
OMG I love this series so much!
Audrey is hilarious and Thor makes me laugh out loud. I hope Ben never decides it’s time to move on.
Galloway is the perfect man for Audrey lol. Nothing says Mr. Perfect like letting you get involved in police business hahaha
Fun cute book that l couldn’t put down. Well written and sure to please with ghosts and talking cat to provide running commentary. Recommended
I absolutely loved this book! Audrey is such a relatable character. She gets pulled in to yet another mystery, and just when you think you’ve got it, you are wrong! Jane Hinchey is an amazing writer, and definitely leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait for the next in the series!!
The whole series is great and easy to read . This story is no exception with a good plot that keeps you wondering.
I always enjjoy reading the authors stories.
I absolutely loved this book!! Jane Hinchey is a fairly new author for me and I’m so glad I’ve gotten to discover her books. Her books are wonderfully entertaining with action, adventure, and suspense/mystery. Her writing is superb and I love her characters. I hate to see the book end but I know there will be another in the near future. Enjoy!
I received an ebook from the author and this is my voluntary review.
It doesn’t take long at all to be completely involved in this latest installment of the Ghost Detective series. Audrey is close to getting her PI license, but she has a murder to help solve first. I kept thinking I know who the murderer was, but I was completely wrong. Audrey is a great character, and I just love her to death. She is lovable, fun, and smart. Her ghost friend Ben is also a great character, and I’m glad the author doesn’t use him too much to help Audrey solve crimes, and her boyfriend Captain Cowboy Hot Pants…Cade…doesn’t try and stop her. She can stand well on her own. All of the other side characters are just wonderful, too. This latest is a great addition to the series, and I think this is the best yet, and this is my favorite series by this author. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
There is a missing necklace and Audrey is on the case. Kade is helping her prep for her test, she is becoming a full fledged private eye. Next thing you know her client is dead and she is going to find out who killed her. These books are always fun to read, the time goes so quickly. You will laugh out loud at times. Great read!
THE GHOST IS CLEAR : (Book 3 Ghost Detective Series) : JANE HINCHEY.
Read : 20 -26 August 2020.
HINCHEY SMACKS A GRAND SLAM HOME RUN RIGHT OUTTA THE BALL PARK!!!
A return to form with another fabulous light-hearted rom/com murdery mystery with mayhem & madness from Queen of the Cozy’s Jane Hinchey with ‘The Ghost Is Clear!’ I swear I had a great big dopey grin plastered across my face the whole time reading this book. I enjoyed it that much.
Jane’s cozy’s are a good fun clean read without all the over the top sex scenes & bad language that some don’t like and are a great for any age 8 to 108!
But I must admit she is the Queen of Scream with a ‘Love Scene’ & I prefer the bad language / sex scenes as its always tactful, tastefully done & never over the top when used compared to the clean reads, but that’s just me.
The great action continues, and we see more realistic cases here than in book 2 which are totallly believable with Private Investigator in training, Audrey Fitzgerald. And having a cop as a boyfriend, in Detective Kade Galloway, who technically should go by the book, but more often than not doesn’t when it comes to his mystery solving missus by involving Audrey in police business.
Its often for the best, smarter & safer for all concerned if this head strong woman is under his care & guidance as her offical sponsor as a trainer, than having her going off half cocked on the spur of the moment without thinking through situations, senarios & the serious life threatening consequences to them.
But seriously there’s no telling this stubborn blonde what she can nor can’t do & I certainly wouldn’t want to be the one packed into Cowboy Hot Pants, Hot Pants in that situation!
Unfortunately I found both of Ms Hinchey’s last 2 books ‘Give Up The Ghost’ and Book 5 of ‘Witch Way To Secrets And Sorcery’ rushed (something quite out of character for this author).
So it felt great reading this book & not finding or feeling the pressure of those demands in this book.
We all know about deadlines & the pressure readers place on authors to publish the next book as quick as possible. Then everyone’s world was turned upside down late 2019 /early 2020 by all that Covid-19 encompass and I must admit I am extremely impressed with Jane, her body of work, her ethics for not letting any of these pressures, demands or the stresses rear their ugly little heads throughout this book.
Give up the Ghost is packed to the rafters with all the great murder, mystery, mayhem & madness that a Hinchey Cozy is known for. Heavy on the action, with easter eggs dropped here & there if your truly paying attention & all the usual likeable, not so likeable, loveable & down right love to hate characters & the drama-arama its known for.
Although I find the storyline still a touch unrealistic, but only for one reason.
It must be hard for Galloway being a good honest cop.
Kade’s undercover at Firefly Bay Police Department to uncover & weed out the crooked, dirty corrupted cops from the good guys & girls in blue.
But being both Audrey’s boyfriend, he’s breaking the law & police procedures himself by involving Audrey as he’s also her supervised PI trainer all in one.
He’s such an easy going bloke, not showing struggling or stresses , but he’s more than blurring the lines here.
Its a bit hypocritical & he too could be charged, reprimanded or lose his job too.
Realisiticly I just don’t see how the Cop in him would involve an uninitiated Private Investigator (one without a licence throughout most of this book & the past 2) into situations that are way out of her league and just too dangerous for a rookie with someone of Audrey’s capabilities and lack of training.
And considering how clumsy this woman is & her firearm training goes that’ saying the very least!
But in saying that, this series is coming around. Hinchey is finally showing the realities of a PI in training h what one must learn & go through.
These aspects have been severely M.I.A. from the first 2 books.
So kudos Jane, for me this aspect has been sorely missing & I couldn’t wait for its involvement in the story.
Makes things more legit & believable too.
This story is beginning to perfect sense, with lots of sweet and touching moments between Captain Cowboy Hot Pants & Audrey, Audrey, her family & Kade and some of the other characters, especially those involving the very sweet and dearly departed Anita Finlay & her family & BFF.
Loved the laughing out loud moments too, but no where near enough Thor action for me. This zany mouthy little fluffball with the stiff upper lip, appetite like Garfield & stomach to match, is one charming smokey coloured British short hair with matching accent.
A Kitty with ‘Tude!
Audrey has great instincts, but often acting before thinking situations through, often getting herself way in overhead, confronting suspects that are just as likely to bump her off, than confess & turn themselves in. She outright accuses 3 people of murder with no backup!
She seems to believe the best in people (those she’s accusing, hello i.e. criminals & murderers) thinking they will open up & tell her the truth! It’s not like she’s a cop, & when do criminals ever tell the truth anyway?
Audrey really needs a coporoal partner at Delaney Investigations or should be reporting some of her actions & movements to Kade or a secretary, letting someone know her whereabouts & intentions as a meaning of back up in case something goes terribly wrong (as it’s so often does).
Ben being incorporeal literally has his hands tied behind his back & can’t help physically, but at least Thor can dial a phone! MeoWow!
As much as I say this, its hypocritical as one of the aspects we seem to love the most about Audrey, is she goes off on her own tangent and doesn’t think about the danger she’s putting herself or others in.
So on the one hand, I love that she takes the initiative, but on the other I think it’s absolutely nuts because she doesn’t think about her own safety or that of anybody else.
Perhaps it will come with more training and experience, after all Audrey was only an office temp before Ben’s untimely passing and inheriting Delaney Investigations.
Would love to see a lot more of the training aspects coming into the story as Audrey direly needs more training : firearm, hand to hand combat / self defence (a kick to the groin is often ineffective on men & doesn’t work on women. Smarter safer techniques taught by self defence teachers are a swift kick to the knee with the heel, a clap to both ears, throat punch or eye gouge with straighten fingers or stamping on inner feet/ toes which are all much more effective. And desperately needed is Drivers Ed for defensive driving, dangerous conditions and high speed pursuits.
Fitz might have great instincts, but is a bit of a klutz & definitely jinxed & constantly getting into situations one really doesn’t want to be in, and although she aced her Private Investigators written exam, she still has a long way to go & is reckless, but loveable, but thinking her famous Fitzgerald kick to the groin will always get her out of trouble is actually irresponsible teaching & an out dated method!
A well written with fabulous characters who you just adore. And again as always We eed more Thor action, please?
Ms Hinchey has a gift when it comes to character development and several other aspects of writing.
They say there’s something about Mary, [sic] but I say There’s something about a Hinchey ‘Bad Guy’, even the one’s masquerading as ‘Good Guy’s, hiding behind a badge and uniform.
As much as I want this scum Mills to get his comeuppance (just desserts), I love this character & don’t want him out of the series. Audrey needs her very own antagonist in Officer Mills as her nemesis. He he plays well off both Audrey, Galloway & at times even his partner. After all what was Holmes without Moriarty or Batman with out the Joker? But seriously what is this guy’s beef, there’s been no clue yet, can’t wait for the big reveal
I received an ARC of this book from the author and as always this is my fair, honest and impartial review.
I RATE THE GHOST IS CLEAR

From The
(Bye Love From The Crazy Australian Bookworm)!
Audrey has quite a romance going with her beau Galloway, a hunky police detective and PI. He hasn’t yet completed his efforts to end the corruption with the local pd, but they have a growing network of officers they think they can trust as they work to clean up the department. One officer may have brought himself closer to bringing at least himself down when he loses control in front of witnesses
It is too late to save Ben’s life. He seems stuck as a lingering ghost while the department issues linger. Will their resolution set Ben free? Will others join Ben in death before all is said and done?
As Audrey progresses in her studies to finally become licensed as a PI, a variety of changes pop up with her family and with Audrey herself as she adapts to being in a romantic relationship
A spirited, humorous and bittersweet story!
Another great story! I love Audrey! This was just as good as the previous 2 stories, and I loved that another ghost was added to the mix… at least for awhile. And Audrey’s relationship with Kade is barreling ahead. Can’t wait for what comes next!
I love the way Jane Hinchey works her plots, her characters, just every element of her work is on point and enjoyable from the first word to the last. This book is as good as it gets, and you will laugh to the last! If you haven’t yet read any of Hinchey’s works, what are you waiting for? Go! Grab her books today!
This is such a fun series! When Audrey is hired to find a missing necklace, she first finds a dead body. This entertaining cozy mystery is well written, has a nice twisty plot and engaging characters. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
