“I never thought I’d fall in love again, and I don’t know how I’m gonna let you go.”
In Violet Howe’s The Ghost in the Curve, Sloane Reid is the scream queen of movie stardom, but when Hollywood decides that it’s time to move on to a younger actress, Sloane runs off to her aunts remote cabin in the small town of Cedar Creek. Never one to be scared of things that go bump in the night, Sloane is shocked to discover she can see and hear the ghost of a young girl, Chelsea, that was killed in a tragic car accident. Chelsea begs for help in solving the disappearance of her baby brother, and Sloane agrees. With the aid of hottie Detective Rogers, they enter into a mystery that will keep the pages turning!
The Ghost in the Curve is a must read! Don’t let the ghost in the title make you think this is a scary/horror type story, because it’s not! It’s a romantic suspense with a wee touch of paranormal. Honestly, I wish I could give this story more than 5 stars! I absolutely loved it! It has everything I could possibly want in a book…friendship, love, sex, humor, heartache, and a dash of paranormal…it has it all and more! So do us both a favor and run now and one-click this amazing story! You can thank me later!
This has been one of the best books I have read in a while! It has everything! Mystery, suspense, thrills, romance, tragedy, and a ghost named Chelsea Torrington.
Sloan Reid’s character is going through some major career issues. Her long running movie series has just ended and she’s just lost. After going to Florida to unwind at her aunt’s cabin, she comes across Chelsea. She is the only one who can hear or see Chelsea. Who wouldn’t be freaked out about that? Chelsea just asks Sloan for one thing. To find her brother, Luke, who everyone assumes is dead too after a horrible accident killed Chelsea and her mom. Chelsea saw something that night. She saw someone pick Luke up and take him away.
Sloan, with the help of Deputy Tristan Rogers, does everything she can do to find Luke.
To say I enjoyed this book really is an understatement, because it had me hook, line, and sinker! I was so engrossed in the story that didn’t want to put it down to do anything else! I love books like these and it makes me really excited to share my review so hopefully more people can enjoy it too!
A Ghost in the Curve by Violet Howe
Romantic mystery. 1st book in the Cedar Creek mystery series.
Actress Sloane Reid escapes to the small town of Cedar Creek. She is broke and not sure what the next step in her career will be. Trying to talk to her agent on a cell phone without a good connection brings her down to the dock at the lake where a ghost interrupts her phone call. The ghost in the lake wants Sloane to find her family.
Forgetting the alarm code at her aunt’s cabin brings Deputy Tristan to the scene where things go south quickly.
Can Sloane find the family and resurrect her career at the same time?
I did not like the heroine to start with. At all.
She won’t answer the straightforward questions from the deputy. Then gets mad at him for doing his job. She has no job, no money and yet she ignores the request from her agent for an address to send her a script to review and instead goes home to drink.
Now both situations had other things going on. When the deputy is asking questions, the house alarm is going off.
40% through. Still do not like the heroine. She wants the deputy to trust her, yet she won’t explain about the ghost. She yells at him that she doesn’t need protection, yet her house was trashed and she’s being threatened. And she still won’t tell him even though he is practically begging her to share. To trust. To help him understand and do his job.
Finally at 50% she admits she is at fault for a lot of the problems. Ok, slightly redeeming herself.
In the end, the book was complicated and compelling. The characters are consistent throughout and I still wanted to yell at Sloane for her independent stance.
I loved Tristen for his strong moral character, and his ability to believe in Sloane and her ghost.
When Hollywood actress Sloane Reid gets her movie contract bought out at the age of 29, she doesn’t know what to do. She’s been playing the same character since she was 16. As the star of the Spectral Slayer franchise, you’d think she’d be rolling in money, but poor management when she first signed on, and foolish spending later on has left her broke until she get the check from the studio for buying her out. Contacting her aunt, she gets permission to use her cabin in Florida, tucked away in Marion County, FL, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Sloane has decided to get away to figure out what she’s going to do with her career and life.
Even though she’s played the Spectral Slayer on the big screen, she’s never believed in ghosts, not until her walk to the lake one evening right after she got there. That’s when she encountered the ghost of teenager Chelsea Torrington, who’s been there since the day she lost her life thirteen years prior. Now Sloane has to reconcile her mind to the fact that ghosts are real, there’s one that she can see and speak to across the road from her aunt’s cabin who wants her to solve the mystery of what happened to her baby brother. But that’s not all. She’s still dealing with her Hollywood life. Getting phone calls from her agent and manager, wanting her to come back. Then there’s the break ins. Sloane has made someone very mad there in Cedar Creek, Florida. They’re breaking in and destroying her aunt’s house, making it personal by destroying her personal belongings.
While dealing with all of that, she meets deputy Tristan Rogers, a man who proves to be helpful in both the break-ins at her aunt’s house and Chelsea’s case. It definitely helps that he’s so sinfully delicious. When sparks fly, will they be hot enough to keep Chelsea in Cedar Creek, or will she head back to the bright lights of Hollywood?
I truly loved this story. I devoured it and have already started reading the second one in the series. With great writing, a wonderful cast of characters, and a truly moving plot, the book was so easy to read that I couldn’t stop. I needed to know what happened.
After looking to escape her world, Sloane decides to head to Florida and stay at her aunt’s remote cabin. Once there, her escape for peace and quiet is anything but that! She encounters Chelsea, a ghost who puts her on a mission to find her long lost brother who everyone believes died in a car accident. This story – with both mystery and romance was an enjoyable read. I am looking forward to reading more about the characters in the next book!
This was an absolutely great read! My second book by Violet Howe but first in this series and I’m hooked totally! It has everything I love in books, suspense, mystery, humor, romance and a bit of paranormal. Action packed, awesome story line, well developed realistic characters, some of them you fall in love instantly but some grow on you. Sloane Reid, an grownup teen scream queen actress at the crossroads career and life -wise both facing her fears and challenges. Tristan, the local deputy battling with his personal past’s nightmares and guilt. And, Chelsea, the teenage Ghost! I loved all of three and then more!
I highly recommend this book and now I am so excited to read next book in series which is already waiting for me!

Love, love, love!!! This book was good. It hit the right balance of romance and mystery. I love Sloane and her celebrity status throws in some curves to this story. Chelsea is great… her teenager side emphasizes what she lost, but she has a good outlook. She made me laugh so often. I loved Tristan and Holden. I hope Holden gets a lady at some point. I need more Tristan and Sloan so of course I’ll be reading The Glow in the Woods next!
Warning! This book is addictive.
I couldn’t stop reading. The author has a way with words that makes her characters come to life. She pulls you into the story and entangles you on their adventures. Or more like misadventures when it comes to Sloane. She might be a scream queen of the silver screen, but she’s also a real person, with needs, wants, an expensive shopping habit, a newly discovered friend who just happens to be a ghost.
Tristan is the hunky deputy that handcuffs Sloane the first night she arrives in Cedar Creek. Maybe not the best start to a relationship. But, did you catch the hunky guy part?
While Tristan and Sloane might not have had the best “meet cute” they do have an instant attraction to each other that keeps bringing them together. He might think she is hiding something from him, maybe because she is, but how do you tell a guy you have the hots for, that the something is a ghost.
Sloane does a lot of growing emotionally, with the candid questions from her fifteen-year-old ghostly friend and trying to solve a thirteen-year-old mystery. I was kept guessing, somethings I had a strong suspicion and others took me by surprise. The one thing that didn’t stop was my need to read more. I enjoyed this book so much I purchase the next book in the series even before I wrote this review. I can’t wait to see what adventures Sloane will be getting into next.
Great story and great writing! I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
My first thoughts after reading this synopsis and before I read the book was of Sarah Michelle Gellar after season seven of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sloane Reid, the main character, had been Lucy Landry for the past thirteen years of her life—and now it’s all ended. Sloane runs away from her life in Hollywood to her Aunt’s secluded cabin in the small town of Cedar Creek, Florida. It’s here that she meets and decides to help a young teenager named Chelsea, who also happens to be a ghost. Seeing and talking to a real ghost is only the beginning of Sloane’s problems.
Violet Howe is one my new favorite authors and I hope to see more mystery romances novels like The Ghost in the Curve down the road!
If you enjoy paranormal mystery with some romance, check out the Cedar Creek Series:)
Violet Howe’s characters are easy to relate to and even easier to fall in love with.
I love ghost stories and this one has it all, mystery, romance, paranormal components. Definitely a page turner that keeps your heart in the feels moment.
