The first rule of being a ghost whisperer: Don’t tell anyone.Seriously. Don’t.Sure, it might sound harmless. A fun party trick, even. I assure you, it’s not.How do I know? Well, let’s just say that I’ve had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, and nine times out of ten, it turns into an all-consuming disaster.Being plagued by needy ghosts twenty-four/seven is one thing; being harassed by … thing; being harassed by a horde of curious—or worse, grieving—flesh-and-blood people is an entirely different circus. I mean really, who wants to hold an impromptu séance in the middle of the cereal aisle? Not me, and the manager of the grocery store probably isn’t too crazy about the idea, either.
So, that’s it. If you’re a ghost whisperer, just keep your mouth shut and act normal. Ghosts? What ghosts?
Now, if only I would start listening to my own advice …

The Ghost Hunter Next Door is book one in the Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery series by Danielle Garrett and Narrated by Amanda Ronconi.
The Beechwood Harbor Ghost Mystery is set in the same town as the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series. I’ve been enjoying the Harbor Magic series and many have liked this Ghosty spinoff.
The idea of a ghost whispering florist who helps solve ghost troubles sounds fun and it was. This was a nice listen and a decent start to the series.
Scarlet gained her ability to see and talk to ghosts at a young age, but her parents weren’t welcoming to this. When she was old enough she became a wonder, but she finally found herself wanting to settle into something more permanent. She got her chance and now she works to build her business and on the side help the ghosts in the town.
Scarlet is asked by a ghost to get ride of the TV show, but when she doesn’t the ghost gets angry and bad things happen on set and to her. She meets Lucas who was hired to protect the show. She also stumbles onto a murder mystery bedsides the ghosts.
We meet a verity of ghosts and they are a bunch of fun characters. I liked the ghosts and the relationship Scarlet has with them. I liked the coastal setting. We also see that Scarlet is not very confident, yet. I’m looking forward to seeing how she grows and where her relationship might go with Lucas.
The only thing that felt out of place was how fast Scarlet revealed her ghost abilities to Lucas, someone she doesn’t know. She’s suspicious, shy, unsure, and not big on human relationships, so this felt off for her character.
Narration: Amanda Ronconi did a great job. She also narrates the other series. The wry humor came across and the ghosts all had unique voices. Everyones personalities came out.
Rated: 3 Stars
Narration: 4 Stars
I picked this up because of the narrator, Amanda Ronconi (I really love her narration) and found this book delightful. It’s a fun paranormal mystery with likeable characters and I’ve already started on the second book in the series.
ghosts, revenge, murder-investigation
Not a ghost HUNTER, but ghost HUNTED. Because she has had the ability to interact with ghosts since childhood, they seek her out for help and a few follow her around from place to place driving her nutty. She spent most of her life on the move all around the US and Europe, but now she has the opportunity to open a floral shop thanks to a bequest from a relative. Would have been delightful but for a very angry ghost determined to stop the renovations at the house where she was murdered! A very good read!
This is the first book I’ve read by Danielle Garrett and I really enjoyed it! It was an entertaining cozy mystery. I loved the setting of Beechwood Harbor, the characters (both ghostly and human!) were well-rounded and interesting. A really fun read!
Had all the excellent parts of being a great book! The narrative is great as well!! My favorite character is the cat! I hope she finds why she has the powers one day. She funny, smart, and loves flowers!! Has all my favorite qualities in a person! This story is great and I can’t wait to find out which love interest she will pick!
This was such a fun book. I loved Scarlet and her sarcasm. Her ghost friends were also awesome. I cannot wait to read more.
The Ghost Hunter Next Door is a delightful cozy mystery. Scarlet, the main character in this story, owns a flower shop in the small town of Beechwood Harbor. When a production company arrives in town to film the renovation of a local property, they disturb an angry ghost who believes her fiancé murdered her. Scarlet will have to solve the mystery before Rosie wreaks havoc on all who enter her home. A fun, quick read. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
