I loved this short Christmas story. At the holidays, it can be difficult to find time to sit down and read a whole novel, but this was the perfect length and the perfect story to put me in the holiday mood.
A young woman skips her holiday party after dressing in her beautiful gown and ready to meet a possibly Mr. Right in order to tend to her sick aunt in the hospital. I don’t want to spoil the magic within these pages (and there IS magic in this beautiful story) but I will say that if you love Christmas, love love – not just the romantic kind, but the type of love someone has to sacrifice to care for another, then you’ll love this story. And there is romance too! It’s the perfect holiday story to prepare your heart to have a very Merry Christmas.
I can’t resist a warm, well-written, unique, Christmas tale that inspires me to live life more fully! “The Getaway” by Bibiana Krall met all my requirements and left me smiling! I also enjoyed the Author Note at the end of the book. It explains that parts of the story are true. Its delightful, pip-of-a-character, Aunt Vi, is based on the author’s real-life Aunt Anna.
If you need a pick-me-up during the holiday season, check out “The Getaway.” Take time from the hustle and bustle of a busy day to sit back and read this five star, satisfying Christmas story. It will brighten your day!
The Getaway is a short read filled with just the right amount of intrigue for a Christmas Romance. The main character, Alexandra, is in for a magical dose of reality on Christmas Eve. Like any young, beautiful woman, she wants Christmas Eve to be special. In the course of leaving work, a painful tumble-down snow slick steps, and a rescue by an attractive man she’d never considered a love interest, starts an enlightening night to true love.
Alexandria’s night doesn’t exactly go as planned. She’s dressed in her finest party clothes, ready for a dream date with Roland when the phone rings, dashing any hopes for fun. Her feisty aunt Violet is in the hospital after a heart attack. Alex isn’t happy about her ruined night but ashamed at her attitude.
“She hung up the phone and shook her head. What a terrible night to end up in the hospital. Ashamed for her disloyal thoughts, it became a thing that she needed to do.”
Alexandria has always questioned her bond with Violet. Their relationship isn’t the closest, but there’s something special between the two. Tonight, that bond seems stronger as Alexandria questions the painful tumble earlier, which occurred around the time of Violet’s heart attack.
“The bizarre, stifling moments on the steps had been some kind of transference.”
Alex’s Christmas Eve progresses with fond, holiday memories, a ghostly visitation, and magical vibes from her Aunt Violet. The enlightening events lead Alexandra on a divergent path to true love.
“The future had been in front of her all along.”
The Getaway has all the elements of a Christmas Romance: Wintry atmosphere, a steaming cup of hope and desire for true love, blended with personal family trauma, and a sprinkle of magic stirred to a potent brew that changes everything. If you’re looking for a short, heartwarming Christmas read, I highly recommend The Getaway. Mrs. Krall, thank you for the enjoyable holiday read.
