Beautifully written and thought-provoking “what if?” story. The author delves into the deepest recesses of the human psyche to search for answers to how evil grows. Not many conclusions answer the questions, but the story is spell-binding, especially if you like birth stories. A powerful case for the sanctity of all human life.
The German Midwife was an incredibly original look at WWII Germany. So often, stories are told from the perspective of those who won the war instead of those who were defeated in the end.
The story is full of heartfelt moments, hope that endures even in the bleakest of situations, and characters that are both compelling and inspiring. I am definitely a Mandy Robotham fan as this is an incredible debut. If you enjoy World War II historical fiction, then grab a copy of The German Midwife today.
This is one of the most enjoyable books about WWII that I’ve read in a long time. This book is a must read. Well researched, strong characters, great plot, fast paced. Not maudlin but goes to the core.
I really enjoyed this book. Even though it is set during WWII, it had a different take to a story line. It even made me look up some of the story to see if it really happened but it was fiction.
Pretty far fetched
A powerful story. Beautifully told
Interesting to speculate the possibilities.
This was a book about survival during the WWll, You must read this if you are interested in books about the history of German occupation and how courageous the people were who survived. The love of a German soldier who helped her survive and escape. While he deserted and did not survive.
I learned something about history that I didn’t know before. Totally enjoyed this book.
An excellent piece of WWII fiction which follows an imprisoned midwife’s journey with Eva Braun’s secret Pregnancy with Hitler’s child. It is a compelling story of survival and commitment to midwifery, no matter one’s circumstances.
this was an awesome book. Anke was an awesome person!
This book has some very disturbing details. Some readers may find it too graphic. I found it was hard to put down.
I absolutely loved this book. The characters were vivid and I learned a whole lot about midwifery. Highly recommended.
Mesmerizing. Couldn’t put it down. Terrible things happen, and yet she has extreme courage and an unshakable spirit. A real eye opener as to how disgustingly the Nazis treated people…all people….even their own. We’re sooo lucky they lost!
We must never forget, and stand up to tyranny in all it’s forms.
I thought a gave a picture of how was in the end of the Reich.
“The German Midwife” was very good in many parts: somewhat believable and a surprise ending. I did learn more about German war camps during WW2.
Love this author. Great book
