A compelling story of love, betrayal, and ambition by New York Times bestselling author Susan Wittig Albert, The General’s Women tells the story of two women–Kay Summersby and Mamie Eisenhower–in love with the same man: General Dwight Eisenhower.
What a great story, unfortunately poorly written. The characters were superficial and the text repetitive.

I like historical novels, and was unaware of Gen. Eisenhower’s relationship to his driver in London. Good insights into World War II, the loneliness of service men overseas, the war times in England and Europe, the work of London women in the medical corp – diving the ambulances, and insights into Eisenhower.

I enjoyed reading about this relationship. Although it is classified fiction I felt that it was well researched and short of being able to interview the two folks was as close to the truth as possible. The author was very careful to let us know what was fiction
Vs fact.

Though parts were fictionalized, the book was very interesting and sentimental.

It’s started off strong but dragged along. I thought it could have been edited to shorten.

I didn’t know much about Eisenhower’s personal life until now. We all have seen films of him during the war years, going to the liberation of the concentration camps and the years during the Presidency. My family loved Eisenhower and my dad took us to the train tracks in Ferguson to put a penny on the tracks when his funeral train took him to his final resting place in Kansas. This book about his personal life was an eye opener.

Interesting. The author used a lot of sources, but surely much of the dialogue was invented. But I always wondered about Ike’s driver. She sounds delightful.

Even though it was fictionalized, I could just imagine that the General had a huge hankering for his driver!!

In the middle of reading this book and find the humanistic story of Eisenhower’s command and his relationship with Kay, his driver fascinating. I was a very young child when Eisenhower was elected President, but had heard rumors of this story for years. Love getting the author’s viewpoint.
