Great book, scary and we’ll developed characters will keep you glued. Loved it!
A different end of the world story.
Do NOT just buy this one book- you have to get the whole series. Book 1 leaves you wanting to know more. What happens next? What happened to the characters? Who lives and who dies? Each book is a page turner, keeping you wanting more and more.
All over the world, strange black stones have suddenly appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. New York, London , Tokyo, Mumbai, the deserts of Syria; 6,000 of these stones are a sign of speculation for persons living nearby. Until gates start popping up, and the denizens of Hell make their way to earth, killing everybody in their path. .
This is the first installment of the thrilling Hell on Earth series, and what an auspicious beginning it is. The stones are the biblical 6000 seals God set in place to keep Hell locked, but now the gates are open, and mankind is in for the fight of its life. This storyline is refreshingly fun, if not completely original. Wright has created a great cast of characters, unwilling to just hide or wait to be killed. These survivors and fighters are people the reader is sure to cheer on along their journeys. The pacing of the tale is rapid, but not in a rushed short of way. There is just enough backstory to each character that you will know them, but not so much that the story becomes bloated or dragged down. Wright has a way of telling a tale that will have the reader entranced, forgetting that they are only words on a page, and that is the main goal of a writer. This is another one of those series I regret starting, because now I have to see what happens next.

My Rating: 4.25/5 stars
I couldn’t put it down. The author had my full attention from the first line.
To begin-Wow. I came across an ad on Facebook where the author, Iain Rob Wright, was giving away FIVE of his books for free! So of course, I had to check them out, and I was NOT disappointed.
‘The Gates’ is a story about strange stones that begin appearing all over the world, and create “gates” for evil to come through and destroy the earth. The author tells multiple different stories from around the world showing the different experiences that were occurring with the stones.
This book is listed under horror/thriller, and I understand why, but I have to tell you that I think it belongs in the action category! This book was so full of fights and battles, perfect for those who love a good war story between good and evil.
This book ends with a cliff hanger, but no worries there is a second book titled ‘Legion’-I’m reading this one now and will post a review after.
Something I have to praise the author on is not only just his ability to story tell, but he didn’t use any useless fillers (which is hard to come across in novels in my opinion). I’m really excited to continue reading his work, and you all should really check it out. It will keep you on your toes and you won’t want to stop reading!
Really liked the context of the series but found at time being redundant. Main characters kept me wanting to read further
This is the first in the Hell on Earth series, and got me hooked from the start. There are some great characters and the story twists and turns like a cut snake. If you love demons and world spanning story lines, this is for you.
O am not generally a fan of book series, but this held my attention. I was saddened that all the characters that I cared for died.
This is an amazing book! It is an apocalyptic story with a great, unique and terrifying difference. The story builds until the tension is nearly unbearable! Don’t miss this book!
I don’t even know where to start with this book. It skips between the characters a lot. You get to know each one. Some you will like and some you will hate. Some that die you will feel bad for and some that live you will hope karma takes them out lol It is a scary world that is built on death and destruction yet the characters find hope and strength in each other. I strongly recommend this to anyone who loves the horror genre. You won’t be sorry.
If you like ‘end of the world’ fiction this book is good because it is different from the usual . Gateways appear all over the world, but what comes through aren’t zombies or aliens. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Writing and dialog seemed a little immature such that, as I read it, I doubted the person would say what was written or it was said in a very cliche manner. Stopped reading at about half way as it looked way too doubtful anyone could survive. The large creatures couldn’t be killed and the smaller ones were far too numerous. Author needed to build a little hope into the story. Just became tediuous reading about all the death.
I really liked this book and will definitely re-read it (probably many times). It’s a great mix of zombie/demon/apocalyptic horror. Great read, I recommend it for those that enjoy any of the above mentioned genres.
Great read it had me at the start. This is a horror story one no other. A page turner.
Very good read but has it flaws. It seems the gates of hell have opened and are spilling forth the damned. It is action packed but a little too simple for the context. I believe more evil within us all would spill out into the public domain; thus, hell’s army would be just one nightmare to contend with. Overall a fun read but is a series…
