Over the past two years, geneticists have died in what appear to be accidents, but Lanaya knows otherwise. If she tells her secrets to … otherwise. If she tells her secrets to the authorities, she risks becoming a suspect or revealing herself to the killer and becoming an open target. Hiring private investigator Hamilton DeShear may help her expose the truth, but time is running out. The murders are happening faster, and Lanaya’s name may be next on the killer’s list. But when Lanaya and DeShear start probing, what they discover is far more horrifying than anyone could ever have imagined.

An excellent read that really doesn’t surpass the possible. It sounds like the impossible but if you take into account where we are in genetics, cloning, IVF & AI the possibilities are endless. Enjoy the story without constantly thinking that’s impossible, because is it really?
Hamilton “Hank” Deshear is just a regular guy who, due to some unexpected life curveballs, has ended up losing his job in the police force and also his home. Hank is struggling to re-establish himself financially in his new occupation as a self-employed private investigator. When Lanaya, a genetic scientist, contacts him and claims that the recent high-profile death of the well-known and wealthy head master of a local private school is not an accident, but rather a murder, Hank starts being drawn into the shadowy world of a serial killer. The deceased head master is the latest in a series of accidental deaths of fellow current and former genetic scientists. The link between all of these people and Lanaya is that they all worked together approximately ten years previously for a progressive genetic engineering research laboratory. Lanaya believes all the deaths are murders and that she is next on the list. She is seeking to employ Hank to track down the responsible party and stay alive. The murderer, however, is not an ordinary man. He is the product of genetic engineering aimed at producing a superior human specimen called the “Gammas”.
Soon Hank is on the run, together with Lanaya, hoping they can escape the warped justice of the murderer and unravel the greater mystery that underlies his vengeful murder spree.
Deshear is a likeable and easy going man, who exhibits ingenuity, determination and resourcefulness which quickly gets the reader on his side and routing for his success in tracking down the murderer. His background in the police force and his heroic past actions make his role in the book believable and realistic.
Lanaya grows on the reader. Initially, she comes across as being quite snotty and superior, but it soon becomes obvious that her attitude is due to fear and distrust of other people. She is the epitome of an innocent person who has ended up in trouble due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time and possibly not giving enough thought or consideration to the strange and unorthodox behaviours and work methodologies she saw around her. Lanaya proves herself to be brave and agile minded when both she and Deshear end up in an unexpected situation.
This book is fast paced and exciting, with a unique and well thought out plot which will intrigue readers who enjoy medical thrillers, or any other kind of thriller. The medical references are not unnecessarily complex or detailed and it is not necessary for the reader to have any sort of medical background to enjoy this book. The author managers to pull all the complex threads of the story neatly together at the end, leaving the reading with a satisfying conclusion but interested in coming back for more.
Received as a review copy, this is an honest review. This an absolute realistic and bone- chilling thrill ride as puzzle of why an obsessed serial killer is hunting down scientists in the genetics field. The truth behind the relentless slaughter is haunting as it is horrific. Highly recommended.
Very good story with an excellent unpredictable ending. Never would have expected it.
I loved the characters and the story is incredible! This type of genetic practice could be taking place in a prison or some other place where people are not looked in on to see if everything is going well for them. It realistic feeling that It gave me the creeps.
I was immersed from the beginning till the end of this well written story. It’s an exciting, fascinating and entertaining reading.
I have read several of Dan Alatorre’s books and so far I this this one is the best, so many twists and turns and who knows what Genetic companie’s are really doing. The end was a big shocker for me. Now I am going to read Rogue Elements and knowing Dan’s work it may end up the best.
Hank DeShear fights his body’s shutdown as he pursues a human trafficking cartel – 5 stars
If it wasn’t for the bullets, car chases and clever deceptions, Rogue Elements would be a fast moving travelogue – except that there is no time to look at scenery, just countdown timers, muddy fields and winter drizzle.
One researcher has developed the almost perfect ‘drone’ – soldier, sex worker, dangerous conditions worker or organ ‘donor’ – in a living, breathing human body with blood in its veins controlled by software.
Teams of thugs are employed to protect the business. Bribery cuts through many governments.
While being medically treated for a life threatening illness, Hank DeShear manages to keep a level head in the midst of mayhem. He is accompanied much of the time by a medical expert who is trying to give a rigorous drug regimen.
The British MI6, the US CIA and even the Vice President of the United States provide help when it is needed.
People switch between ‘good guy’ and ‘bad guy’ roles in a plausible way, ramping up the excitement and terror as the story unfolds.
One car chase and gun fight winds up when the two vehicles crunch to a stop between 16th century walls as the street narrows.
There is intense excitement and betrayal throughout with a promise of more to come in the third book of the Gamma Sequence series.
Highly recommended.
WOW! This was quite a book! This was a very compelling read with lots of players with a plot that left you guessing until the very end. Genetics is a hot topic and this book explains why with a nail-biting, moving, scary story. Can’t wait to read Mr. Alatorre’s next book.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I received an ebook from the author asking if I would read and, if I so desired, leave an honest review. I was happily surprised upon reading this book. Throughout the first few pages I did not think I would be able to get into and enjoy the book. Boy, was I wrong! This is an electrifying novel that keeps you on your toes waiting to see what will happen next. Mr. Alatorre has written a fantastic book and I hope he is planning to write many, many more. Enjoy!
The Gamma Sequence: A MEDICAL THRILLER, my fourth read from author Dan Alatorre. I don’t restrict myself to a particular genre. I’m a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing and a plot that keeps me turning the page & this book did! I was given an Amazon copy of this book back in December & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
I do adore a good thriller with watching back in the day a few medical ones. Not having read many this caught my eye with this being also the first time in coming across this author. You get caught up in following Lanaya as she begins the search for the truth but it is not simple with that being why this will hold you captive. You will by now want to know a few things with in any investigation there is the 5 w’s. She is not alone in this there is also Hamilton with the two things begin to slowly escalate it to terror almost. The answers will cause anxiousness with will the time hold out. Will the suspense kill you? At times you think so. This is one good one to disappear in or should I say it will hold you hostage.
