Good easy read with a super surprising ending.
Enjoyed it
This is such a great book! Absolutely different from anything I’ve read before, so many twists and turns with an unexpected ending.
I loved this book! It kept me guessing until the end and I found myself thinking about it between reading. If you enjoy drama and mystery, you’ll love this book.
Somehow even better than her Anya Allyn books
Slow at times but a decent read.
I read this twice.
Quite a twisted story. Worth the read. Well written, though lengthy. Definitely aptly noted as a psychological thriller. Like real life … there are all kinds of people out there. Some should not be parents. And kids can be misunderstood, others cruel … especially within the strength of being with friends. Think I’ll read something relaxing, and shorter, before returning to another by this author. I do plan on reading more.
A little disappointing, half way through the book started getting drawn out.
Good story. Definitely keeps you guessing. Taut, escalating pace and twisted plot. A little convoluted at times and not particularly believable but entertaining. Good ending, satisfying read overall.
Terrific read. I’ll read everything Anni writes. Week done!!
It is too bad I can’t rate this book 5 plus stars! What an amazing mystery, so well written! I could not stop thinking about it and the characters! Loved it so much!
An easy read, which I love when it’s worthwhile. Unexpected on many levels. Enjoyed reading.
Not who you think
Lots of twists and turns. Not a perfect book, but well worth reading.
It was a good read.
Thrillers are meant to pull you down the rabbit hole, keeping you in suspense. On one level, this book succeeds and rates 4 stars. On another level, the book drags in the middle and rates 3 stars.
The idea of a two year old grabbed and never found is a nightmare and how a couple deals with it is unique for each couple. Luke and Phoebe have a son, Tommy, adored by his nan and Luke’s parents. As you read on hoping they find Tommy, you see into their lives, their friends, work, and homelife.
You meet friends Sass, Kate, Pria and an old nemesis, Bernice.
This book is best when the letters appear and Phoebe tries to find her son but becomes bogged down when it keeps going into the past of the characters.
Luke’s faults are shown and Phoebe’s are also but her drinking and actions are down played as being the product of motherhood. Yes, it’s a struggle, but the behavior is so bad, the mother in law has to help out.
The house number 29 and what happened in it are brought up too much….the past deeds are not as interesting as a missing child. Letters appear, distrust, sins of omission, secrets all lead back to the parents.
Phoebe is hard to like as is Luke and the friends are iffy. But the tension increases as does the idea that Tommy is alive and Phoebe becomes a force to reckon with.
The area of Sydney, Australia adds to the book as do the police and the psychiatrist in looking for the truth and it is done well. When events end up turning the parents against each other, you can feel the nervous energy and the book pulls you into the rabbit hole.
The ending is great, especially the way Phoebe deals with issues and fears.
But the overnight changes in two characters is not convincing, nor how Phoebe manages to escape to solve her plight.
Good book, needed better editing and character development that didn’t take so much of the time. 3.5 stars.
Makes you wonder how far you can trust some of your friends.
The beginning and the end were good. The middle got boring. Pretty implausible.
Highly implausible… that’s really all I can say without revealing major spoilers.
