This was a really good well-written read and I really enjoyed it. While I like a good sports romance I was not sure if this was going to be one I enjoyed as I am not a cricket fan at all but I am a huge enemies to lovers fan so it really did even out for me. This was a super read I just loved Alyssa she is a fantastic character and Jase really did grow on me. I am looking forward to reading more from this series
Jase seems to be holding a grudge against Lyssa just be cuz she’s a woman.
Lyssa isn’t warming up to Jase because he told her girls shouldn’t play cricket. What a wank3r.
But work together they must. And soon enough it’s hitting the sheets.
Alyssa and Jace were both well written characters. I cant say I was a fan of Jace and his values but overall the story was a good read.

This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I’m a fan right now. There’s a good pacing for their relationship to build, chemistry, and angst. I also enjoyed all the side characters that add a lot of textures to Lyssi and Jase’s lives. Good look into cricket too. There’s not a lot of novels about it so it was a good change from the typical football.
After having guardianship of her nephew and the injury she sustained, Lyssi, no longer a cricket player, decides to be a fitness coach for the Red Cats. The captain, Jase, or Lion as Lyssi calls him, is a pain to work with and is often at odds with her. However, she slowly learns that there is more to the Lion than just his roaring about and temper.

This book appears to be book one in The Game Book series. First off, I am not a fan of cricket in that I don’t watch it or know beans about it but I enjoyed reading this story anyway as it was more about the players and Alyssa than the game play but I did learn a thing or two. I loved reading about Alyssa and her personal struggles and challenges. The story centers around her working through her obstacles to get where she is with the additional challenges along the way and now with her goal in sight, she is full steam ahead. But of course, not all roads are paved, let alone pot hole free. The Red Cats, team captain is no different. Jase is the proverbial thorn in her side. This makes for some added heated discussions and a further spike in the chemistry department between these two. An enemies to lovers story never leaves for a dull moment.

This was a pretty good read. I thought the story was entertaining. I did have a hard time connecting with the characters though so I could never really get as into their story as I would have liked. I did appreciate that this sports romance centered around cricket. That I felt was somewhat unique.
I received for an honest review from Booksprout
This book hooked me from the get go I just couldn’t put it down I fell in love with these characters and omg what a story just a perfect read

I am really loving Anna Bloom’s books and this one seems to be no different. I’m glad I discovered her. Not to mention, I’m always game for a sports romance 🙂
Lyssa has had to leave the one sport she loves behind and is taking care of her nephew after her brother and his wife died in a horrible accident. When she is offered the job of fitness coach, she doesn’t hesitate and wants to give her nephew a more stable life. When she meets Jase, she’s not impressed like all the other women in his life but there’s no denying the chemistry they seem to have. Each passing day, Lyssa earns the respect of the team members but also catches the eye of Jase. In the end, they’ll both will learn what it is they really want in life…
This one kept me entertained, which some days is all I can ask for. The editing was okay – several misses along the way. It is written with the ‘Queen’s English’, which means that the garden is the yard, and several other similar differences in word choice. Not an issue, just a head’s up.
Alyssa grew up playing cricket, but a family tragedy has propelled her to leave playing and try being a fitness coach for a men’s team. Unfortunately, Jase is captain of the team. They have a history – he once said girls shouldn’t play cricket and he was referencing Alyssa when he uttered the words. Now, they might as well be practicing in the arctic for the warmth that exists in the locker room and on the field. It is clear why Alyssa doesn’t care for Jase, but is his animosity solely due to the fact that she is a woman? As the season progresses, a tentative friendship arises, but will it be enough to thaw out the ice?
This was a quick read, and all in all pretty entertaining. Enjoy.
I absolutely loved this book. Sport romances are not usually my cup of tea but this book was fabulous and has changed my mind on that genre! Jase and Lyssa, two former England cricket captains have to work together when she becomes fitness coach at Jase’s cricket team and he is not the most friendly player on that team to say the least. They love, live and breathe cricket and it is going to take exceptional circumstances for cricket to stop being the priority in their lives. The book is a real page turner, with lots of emotions and all the feels. I don’t know much about cricket but that didn’t stop my enjoyment. This is a book I would recommend without a second thought…. a must read!!
A mesmerising read!
An ex-cricketer turned fitness coach…
The captain of the cricket team…
A chance at falling head over heels in love…
If fate doesn’t interfere…
A slow-burn and a sort off enemies-to-lovers romance and story. A capturing read – I loved the gradualness of the romance, the build-up. So hot!
A riveting and sexy read. Such an engrossing novel that I stayed up late at night/early morning to finish the book.
Filled with cricket, challenges, trust, issues, sexy times and romance.
Perfect for readers of sport romances.
All for the love of the game, or for the love of family.
This is the second book written by Anna Bloom that I have read, and I have to say, I absolutely enjoyed the story surrounding professional cricket involving our H and h.
Lyssa Rivers had been at the top of her game in the English Women’s Cricket League. Since she was sixteen and took a ball to the face, and being told that girls shouldn’t play cricket if they can’t take the pain, she was out to prove everyone wrong. Then her family circumstances changed, and suddenly she was responsible for the life of her much loved nephew, Sam. Under the guise of injury, she gave up her dream, and became a fitness coach for the men’s Top English 20/20 cricket team, a position that provided steady hours and income for the new guardian and her young nephew.
Not all of the elite players in The Red Cats cricket team were happy to have a young woman as a part of the team, and even as Lyssa quickly earned the trust and respect she needed from the team, it was the extremely sexist team captain Jase Willis who made things difficult for her. Surely he didn’t remember her from all those years ago, when he was as ignorant then as he is now.
As the former captain of the English Test Cricket team, Jace Willis is still at the top of his game, and now playing in the T20 league. Unfortunately for him, he is also known for his temper and bad behaviour as he is for his skill in the game. The new fitness coach may also discover something he’s been hiding from those closest to him.
I loved the spark, and the vulnerability of these two characters. While it might seem that things change suddenly in circumstance, it turns out that they have been effectively building over a long period of time. They are also backed by a great and well written cast of secondary characters.
In the game of professional cricket, one will exaggerate an injury to hide their reason to leave, and another will hide their secret, because it means everything for them to stay. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book through the Quirky Blind Date with a Book Readers Group. 4.5 well written stars.
Over the past year I’ve become a huge fan of Anna Bloom’s stories. She really knows how to capture her audience and keep you turning the pages. Each book that she writes just seems to get better and better. The Game was no exception. Jase ‘The Lion’ Willis is a god in the cricket world. However his is also an a** and proves that daily. Alyssa Rivers has had her life turned upside down and has taken a job as the fitness coach for the Red Cats cricket team, the very same team The Lion is caption of. These two butt heads on a regular basis until things start to change between them. However, because of the contracts they signed they have to keep their “relationship” a secret. To Alyssa the people she loves becomes more important to her than the game of cricket. To Jase, the game is more important, r is it? These two were fun to read. Their attitude toward each other in public and then in private was so different. You really got to see the amazing man that Jase was away from the public eye. And their connection! When you finally learn about how they are connected to each other and how Jase never forgets… wow. It was a slow burn to them finally getting together, but it was so worth it in the end!
