The Frights of Fiji begins Sunayna Prasad’s series, Alyssa McCarthy’s Magical Missions. It is, also, my first introduction to this author’s books. I thought this one was a pretty good read. It was full of adventure, action, and magic.
In The Frights of Fiji, readers are introduced to Alyssa McCarthy, who is a 12 years old girl and has been kidnapped by a sorcerer. I found this young girl having so much bravery and courage. I admired her determination to survive. She goes to a whole new world that she never she would experience. I thought her story to be entertaining and fun to read. I enjoyed some of the suspense and mystery of it. I was constantly wondering where she would end up next. I loved the author’s imagination. She crafted such a wonderful tale that so many readers would enjoy. I loved taking this journey with Alyssa. She was a great role model and she learned some very important lessons that so many other readers of all ages could learn from, as well.
I am giving The Frights of Fiji four and a half stars. I believe many younger readers who enjoy fantasy will enjoy reading this one. I would have no problem allowing my ten year old reading this book. I know she will think it is as good as I did. I look forward to read the second installment from the Alyssa McCarthy’s Magical Missions series, A Curse of Mayhem, to see where Alyssa ends up next.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
This is my first read from author Sunayna Prasad, and though the fantasy genre is not my usual reads, I enjoyed this one. There is a host of colorful characters that develop well throughtout the story. The main character, Alyssa is more my favorite than the others. I think it is because of the difficulties life has thrown at her, with loosing her parents, as well as her aunt, which brings out a not so good side of her uncle. Forbidding her things she enjoys, being so rude to her because he blames his wife’s death on Alyssa. And then, magic starts to happen and Alyssa’s life really starts to change.
I was quite impressed with the writings of this author. I was taken into a world of fantasyland I haven’t experienced in books before, and it was quite delightful. The different scenes were well detailed with each character giving their own personality and flavor to the story. I think this coming of age story would be a really nice one for young girls who enjoy fantasy and a good magical tale with its own touch of wizardry. And a magical thanks to author Sunayna Prasad for writing this enjoyable fantasy that I can understand and enjoy. I am glad to have the opportunity to read and review this one. And I encourage parents of young girls to check this one out for their daughters. There is much happening here in this story, I only touched on very little. Its for you to read and get the full story as it unfolds for you, as you enjoy reading!
Oh, and I can’t leave out the awesome cover of this book! It gives that frightening look that is so well described throughout this book. The colors are bright, beautiful and any young girl, as well as anyone else will be sure to grab The Frights of Fiji right off the shelves before any other book!
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
If Harry Potter was a girl and magic had some really bad consequences and …
Well, actually that’s much too simplistic as Alyssa McCarthy, the young (12-13) star of Sunayna Prasad’s Alyssa McCarthy’s Magical Missions is actually a pretty complex and interesting character and the first two books of this series – The Frights of Fiji (Book 1) and The Unruly Curse (Book 2) – we’re wonderfully written, imaginatively original and filled with great characters. Yes, there’s a “Big Baddie” here in Master Beau (boo!), but there’s really so much more. Magic may be something to avoid but these magical missions certainly are not. The only downside to them is that they’re somewhat addictive, which is why I’m reviewing both at the same time as I got so into book 1 and I ended up binge-reading through to the end of book 2. A good endorsement if ever there was one. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. Each of these books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the books are easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next “Magical Mission”.
