I loved this book! I fell in love with the characters. I loved their quick wit, their chemistry together and felt excited, frustrated, heartbroken, happy and all those wonderful emotions right along side them. I can’t wait for the next one!
I loved this book . It was funny and sad and emotional and fun all in one .
Okay. *deep breaths*
So….first – this book was amazing. READ IT. It’s worth it.
Second – HOLY CRAP I wasn’t ready for that roller coaster of emotion. I was expecting a love story with heartache, but I was NOT expecting a love story with that much heartache. I was ugly crying all night since I stayed up until 6 a.m. to finish.
Abby had me laughing so hard I was crying one minute, then sad crying the next…I will most likely have to take a break on reading for a little bit so that I can recharge and get over the impact this book had on my heart and soul. Looking forward to reading book two!!
I realize it isn’t very far at all into 2020, but I can guarantee this will be one of my favorite reads this year. Wonderful characters, beautiful writing, and heartbreaking story. But also a heart-mending story. This book ripped my heart out and sewed it back page by page. If I could have done without sleep, I would have finished this book in one sitting.
Kristen is such a real character, I think any woman can find a piece of themselves in her. Josh is hilarious and supportive. I could envision a more perfect pair than these two and Jimenez is a superb storyteller.
The Friend Zone is my favorite book of 2019! The author takes you on a journey that will have you:
*Laughing so hard your cheeks hurt for hours.
*Having a deep chest pain from heartache.
*Ugly crying, no matter if you’re in public.
*Wanting everyone around you to read it, so you’ll have someone to talk to about the story!
Don’t miss out on this outstanding book, and I guarantee you’ll feel the same way about these characters. Such a truly remarkable start to Abby Jimenez’s writing career, and I’ll be reading every book she writes in the future!
Not you’re typical chic-lit. Has some heavy moments
I enjoyed Abby Jimenez’s The Friend Zone immensely. Way to knock a debut novel out of the park.
This is a friends to lovers romance, and I fell madly in love with Kristen and Josh’s friendship. Their food obsession indulgences, fun times with Kristen’s testy Yorkie, drunken karaoke, and shared pop culture references – I wanted it all. Whenever they are together, even the most mundane things are fun.
Kristen fascinated me. She is sharp as a tack and her bluntness is refreshing and hilarious. I admired her moral compass. Even though her tenacity drove me nuts at times, I respected how she lives her life unapologetically. Kristen suffers from chronic pain and I swear my heart ached for her.
Josh takes Kristen’s quirks and moodiness in style, and is always there to support her without an ounce of judgment. He’s charming, protective, and he truly gets her. Plus, he’s a hot firefighter so he has that going for him. There is a constant push and pull dynamic between them because they are clearly romantically compatible – you actually couldn’t find a more perfect pairing. However, there are obstacles in the way, and while Josh desperately wants Kristen to be his girlfriend, she puts the breaks on any emotional attachments at every turn.
My biggest peeve with The Friend Zone is Kristen’s insistence that she knows what’s best for Josh is incredibly frustrating. She doesn’t give him credit for knowing his own mind, and trying to force him from her life grows repetitive. Josh is an absolute saint for having the amount of patience he shows.
I might have had difficulties with the ending if it weren’t for the author’s note. It really puts the entire story into perspective. The emotional journey is witty, original, and poignant.
I saved this book, so that I could finish 2019 on a high. I enjoyed it so much, I finished before I anticipated. I was expecting a very light hearted romance but I got more. The first half of the book is the story of Josh and Kristen who are to be best man and maid of honor for their besties. Some may say it’s a friends to lovers novel but not in my opinion. There is an immediate attraction between them and due to a few different circumstances, they can’t be together, and they slotted into the friends zone…with benefits. Then the second half of the tale, takes us on a more intense storyline and a wake up call for our leads as to what is most important in life.
I was fully emerged in this book from the beginning. It did drag a little for me before the twist, which I had an inkling what was going to happen. Even so, I couldn’t put it down from then on out. What I came away with was the importance of self worth and how much it can effect our way of life. I also could appreciate that now is the present and to make haste while you can. Josh was simply adorable. The way he was so attentive from their first meeting, to standing up for Kristen with Evelyn, to researching all the different ways to solve their dilemma. He was a keeper. I got Kristen and all her issues, her ocd, her self esteem worries and her medical problems. Mostly I connected with her hangry predicaments. I was extremely happy with the outcome and epilogue, it made my heart heal. And I’m looking forward to book two. Bring on 2020 and some more amazing books.
This book was awesome! The author, Abby Jimenez, is hilarious and you will want her as your BFF, too, once you read this book. Funny, steamy, touching and emotional all rolled up into a great read. Enjoy! Can’t wait to read her next book, The Happy Ever After Playlist!!
This was a fun loving, easy read with good characters. The storyline was believable and entertaining. I read mainly to relax my mind from a stressful job. But I prefer my books to be believable, not syrupy sweet or too cheesy. This one was just right.
I borrowed this book from my local library and I kept putting off on reading it. I thought it sounded cute, but I wasn’t in the mood for it. I finally broke down and started it yesterday thinking I would just skim through it. This book had me hooked from the beginning. The dialogue between the characters is some of the best I have read. I absolutely adore Kristen and Josh!!! I also love the secondary characters! Towards the end of the book I was thinking “Oh no!!! You didn’t just do that!!”as certain situations played out, but…she totally did do it(anyone who read the book knows what I am talking about) and at first I hated it, but while I still hate it. I get it! When I review a book and give star ratings there is a method I follow: I rarely give a 1 Star review, because I feel if someone took the time and effort to write a book I am not going to be rude. So you have to really stink or sacrifice a small baby in the love story to get a 1 star from me. 2 Stars are an honorable mention, I appreciate the time it took to write the book, but I probably won’t be reading anything else by you. 3 Stars means the book kept me entertained and I may look at your amazon page to see if there anything else I like, but I won’t buy it, only library and KU. 4 Stars means I really like the book, I will follow you on Amazon and Goodreads and definitely get your other books, potentially even buying them. 5 Stars means you have me. I will follow you on all social media platforms, I will take the time to write a review for the book. I will buy the book, I will pre order new books by you and even if there is an occasional bad book I will still love you, because if I gave you a 5 star review you made cry!! Like literally made me cry, and I hate and love it at the same time. Thank God I wear contacts and I can pass off the excuse of a bad contact to explain why I am sitting in my living room with tears streaming down my face!!! I flat out loved this book! I want more, I want about 50 more books just about these characters. I am buying this book to reread at my leisure! I highly recommend this book!! Thank You Abby Jimenez for the story, characters and the lovely ugly crying session I had earlier!! I anxiously await your next book!!
The friend Zone is a rom-com about a girl who learns to love herself more in order to keep true love. Kristin’s blunt humor made for great banter with sweetheart Josh. Abby Jimenez’s exceptional flare for witty dialogue kept The Friend Zone upbeat while dipping into the charged topic of fertility. I really enjoyed reading this book!
I read this based upon a suggestion from a friend, and I am so happy I did.
For fans of The Hating Game, Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating, and The Girl He Used to Know here comes your next best read of 2019… The Friend Zone will take you from one emotion to another, and leaves you hanging on until the very end. Abby Jimenez’ writing is so perfect you will not want this book to end… good thing her next novel comes out early 2020!
I’m not going to rehash the story line, you can get that on the back of the book – I will just tell you to run and get this book. You will thank me!
Sloan and Brandon are getting married and they want their best friends, also the best man and maid of honor, to meet before the wedding. When Kristen and Josh show up to their arranged meeting at Brandon and Josh’s firehouse, the two realize they have already met in less than ideal circumstances.
Kristen has a successful dog clothing and supply business that she runs from her home. Kristen’s boyfriend, Tyler, is coming home from deployment shortly for good. He is going to move in with her and they will finally be able to spend more than two weeks together. So why is Kristen so anxious? Kristen is also facing a surgery that will make it impossible for her to bear children. Tyler doesn’t want children so it’s a perfect match, right?
Josh has just moved to California to work at Brandon’s firehouse as an engineer. He’s not sure moving from South Dakota was the right idea, especially with the high costs and all the work he has to do as the newest employee of the firehouse. However, a messy breakup with his girlfriend, Celeste, has Josh appreciating this fresh start. He is immediately drawn to Kristen’s spunky, sarcastic personality and is disappointed to learn that she has a boyfriend.
Josh starts helping Kristen with her business and they spend more and more time together. They are so comfortable together, as if they’ve known each other for years. Josh and Kristen are attracted to each other and start to develop feelings. As they grow closer, Kristen wonders if she really belongs with Tyler after all. However, she knows Josh is adamant about having a big family, something she cannot give him. In fact, it’s the reason he and Celeste broke up. But Kristen just can’t seem to tell him the truth.
When tragedy strikes, it’s a reminder that nothing in life is guaranteed. This is a beautiful story about friendship, love, heartbreak and the things we do when we love someone. There are many laugh out loud parts and parts that will make you cry. I really enjoyed this book and was thinking about the characters long after I put it down.
This book…
I mean, I know it’s a rom-com, but damn… All. The. Feels.
This is the first book I’ve read by Abby Jimenez. It was amazing. I just freaking loved it. Funny as hell, super-well-drawn characters, an amazing romantic relationship between the h and H. This book had it all. Wow. I am so impressed. Read this book.
Jimenez tackles real-world issues with heart and humor to create an emotional, yet sweet and sexy romance.
I loved this story, I mean absolutely loved it…up until I was about three quarters of the way through it. There was so much going for the book, I loved that the main female character Kristen wasn’t perfect. She had health and mental issues but she was still true to herself and had the best no Fs given attitude. She had a pretty great life considering everything she had been through and was still enduring. I also loved how her and Josh met and their developing relationship made me swoon. They loved the same things, they understood each other and man I laughed so much. But then the story changed and it broke my heart. I honestly almost put the book down but I kept going. I’m just disappointed with the turn the book took. I feel like things could have gone differently and still made the intended impact. I have to say I’m honestly just so sad and disappointed.
Great book
Oh wow! I’ve heard so many good things about this book! OMG and so sad and realistic. The writing is sooo good. So I’m glad I was able to get the audio with superstar narrators Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon! They did a great job. YAY, Sloan is getting her book, the happily ever after she still deserves! I added it to my TBR already.
I didn’t see this book coming. I kept seeing people mention loving it, but hadn’t read anything about it. Without spoiling, I’ll say this is definitely a Romance—there is an HEA, but there is a BRUTAL drop off in the storyline that left me shocked and really, super sad (cue end-of-world crying). I was blindsided by that, and may have liked it a bit better had I known going in? Not sure. What I loved was the real-talk about fertility, women’s reproductive issues that are so often ignored, and the hero. The heroine wore me down and I eventually rooted for team Kristen, but I’ll say for the first half, the only reason I was reading was for Josh. He’s a cinnamon-rolly type hero and is lovely. Worth reading for him alone. If you’re in the mood for a good solid cry and don’t mind taking a minute to warm up to a seemingly cliched heroine (who isn’t, in the end, but at first she comes off a little “I’m super snarky and fun and not like other girls because I just don’t even care”), give this baby a read. I’ll read the next book just because I feel like I have to… read this one to see what I mean 😉
