I liked the book. Thought provoking.
I love reading anything set during WWII. This book kept moving and had an interesting story line.
A young doctor throws over his fiancee and brings home a young French woman at the end of WWII. After his death, the discarded woman (now old) dares to ask the war bride, “What happened?” The story is not anything you would imagine. A great read!
meh
Loved it. The historical information was great. The bravery & what a person will go through for their family loved ones & country very inspiring. Knowing the realism of the characters made it a real page turner. The author has a wonderful way of making you feel what the characters are going through. Hope to read more of her work
Excellent portrayal of history and life in France during WWII as much as it was a story of engaging characters. Definitely recommend it to someone who wants to understand the human impact of the war amongst the “common folks” who had to live through it and survive.
A good post war story with true events woven in. Allows another perspective to America’s history
An dying aged woman completes her bucket list by confronting the woman who stole her fiance back in France during WWII. Each tells the other how that jilting drastically changed the course of their lives,
Excellent description of how WWII was started and progressed from the viewpoint of the common person. In this case, it’s in France. Easy read, very informative, and a page-turner!
It had well developed characters and, I think, accurately depicted life in France during the war.
Insightful novel of about survival in Nazi-ridden France during WWII. Life for this French teen rapidly changes as she tragically loses all she loved, family, status, shelter, and even her closest friend. This story crosses two continents as Amélie tells her story of grueling survival, determination, daring exploits in the French Resistance, — and Jack, the handsome American Army Officer…. Amélie will dissect your beliefs (held in safe America,) all the while winning your heart. An excellent read!
You cannot put this book down. This great writer made a fiction story using some of the real events from history. Books about Nazi Germany have always interested me. I cannot believe the hardships that they had to endure. A Great read!
Hard to put down.
I love how it was written. Two characters speaking in the first person, telling the story from two perspectives. I would read a few chapters and then spend a day or two thinking about what I’d read. The story is amazingly real and historically accurate (to my knowledge). Don’t miss this one.
Loved this story, great book!
Outstanding!
Mediocre
Makes some ugly history readable through fiction
