The Freedom Challenge
A 60 day challenge that goes by weeks in the book, the last week is number nine. I loved how each day has a Affirm section and extra memory challenge.
The book discusses the subjects of Fear, Depression, Forgiveness, among others. The author is very encouraging in overcoming these issues. I found the book very interesting.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
I enjoyed the book and how transparent the author is about her past. I remember growing up hearing, “Oh you are the preacher’s kid, or you are related to the boys that always get in trouble.” I felt like that was my identity. I never heard , ” You are smart, beautiful or even that you are fun to be around.” I liked when the author says , ” The truest thing about you and me is that we are who God says we are!” God sees us as His children blessed and prospering. Labels are everywhere and people come to be identified as such. It is time to stop that thinking and grasp who we are which is accepted and loved.
The author has broken down each day into topics that help us grow emotionally and spiritually . We don’t have to be stuck thinking no one likes us and trying to please everyone. We have been accepted by God and we need to live in that truth. The scriptures throughout the study are very timely and reinforce the subjects. It is a very encouraging book and one that should not be rushed. I loved how the examples the author uses really helps readers to understand that we are not alone in our struggles. Many of us have negative thoughts, but as you read the book you can begin to distance yourself from the things that have kept you bound up in lies.
In this book each chapter builds on the next which encouraged me to look at myself in a different way. Insecurity plays a big role in many lives. We feel less than others and tend to shrink into the background so we won’t be rejected. The book emphasizes that we don’t have to feel this way anymore. Embrace who we are in Christ and let Him set you free from negative thoughts.
The book is set for sixty days and gives encouragement, God’s wisdom and a life that we can enjoy without the enemy whispering negative thoughts to us. This book goes on my bookshelf to use over and over again . It is a tool that will help me when I struggle in areas and remind me of how much God loves me.
“The kind of love God wants us to demonstrate is more than a feeling; it’s a choice.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
My Thoughts on The Freedom Challenge:
I am always looking for a good devotional/Bible study to do. Life gets so hectic here in my house that I find if I don’t have a particular plan or book to follow that I get off track and don’t follow through. And then my whole day goes haywire and I’m extra stressed out!
This is a great devotional. You get sixty days in the word to help fix your mindset.
How many of us think badly about ourselves? If someone gives us a compliment we shrug it off because we can’t believe that about ourselves? This book is for you!
Definitely check it out and get a copy.
While I can’t say it has radically changed my life it has definitely impacted it and I will be going through this book again.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
“Be free from toxic mindsets, destructive patterns of behavior, and lies that keep you bound.” This sentence jumped out at me from the back of the book.
In section 1 the author introduces the concept of the 60 day challenge and her personal story. “The Freedom Challenge” is designed to disrupt automatic negative and destructive patterns of thought, talk, actions, and reactions that have been programmed into your mind and are unconsciously pare of your worldview. As you renew your mind with God’s Word and daily focus on select meditations that bring truth and light, your personal metamorphosis will begin.”
The daily challenge consists of 7 parts: todays truth, declare, meditate believe accept, confess, affirm, explore, and extra memory challenge. There are also little sections to journal at the end of each day but I would recommend a separate journal since it’s not alot of room.
Then section 2 including chapters 3-10 which are days 1-53.
Section 3 includes chapter 11-13 for days 54-60 and afterward.
I could tell this author put alot of time and effort and research into writing this book. Very easy to read and apply. The challenge is to “untie the cords that bind us” including cords of fear, depression, negative emotions, control, and pride to name a few. If someone didn’t want to do the whole 60 day challenge, I feel like reading a particular chapter would still be beneficial.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Dawn Scott Damon suggests that The Freedom Challenge can aid our spiritual and emotional transformation and help break the cords that bind us. In this new book she shares her thoughts and bares her emotions to help us change our perception of who we are and how we can improve our Christian walk. It is designed so that it will take 60 days to work through the book and she has planned each chapter to follow the same format. Each day readers work through the same sections: Declare; Meditate, Believe, Accept; Confess; Affirm; Scripture Memory; and finally, Explore (5 questions to spur our deeper thinking) and Journal (with space for us to record our thoughts).
As I worked through this book I have been challenged, inspired, and encouraged. Damon desires to help readers free themselves from their doubts and insecurities and from the first day’s reminder that ‘I am God’s child’ to the last: ‘God calls me to cultivate a generous spirit’ she has helped me realize that ‘I am who God says I am’.
The Freedom Challenge can be used individually or in a group study and I consider it a much-needed resource! This isn’t a quick read but it is certainly a book worth your time.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit but I wasn’t obligated to write a positive review. All opinions are strictly mine.
