The Fortress of Time by Mariah Stone
This is book 1 in the author’s Called by a Viking series but I have to say that since my hubs ancestors were Vikings (and his dad’s middle name is Sigurd) this was a pretty good book even for a time travel romance so I give 4 stars.
Donna Cox fights for the women and families who’re underdogs when it comes to job discrimination but imagine her surprise when a woman shows up in her court room and she’s looking at her fantasy Viking of her dreams. They’ll clash when she stands up for the women in the village who want to help rebuild the walls and fight for their families. Even though Sigurd knows her time with him is limited when she leaves will his broken heart mend?
Sigurd is the Norse Jarl leader of his village but after losing several of his men and father in a battle against Fuldarr plus his sister’s betrayal he knows that trusting a woman with the lives of his village could lead to death. Soon he’ll realize that the women can help with building and Donna could be his shield maiden. Can these two fight off the enemy and find their HEA?
I loved this. Talk about women’s rights. This story shows how women were capable of many things if the men of their time would only take a chance and allow them to do so. Norway 871AD vs NYC 2018. Men back then were still chauvinistic as present-day men. This story held my attention from page one. There was fighting to protect the H’s village, men were slaughtered and died on both sides. The enemy’s side and the H’s side. The H’s side prevailed. The H was building a fortress around the village for defense. But there were half as many men than before the raid of the enemy. He was doubtful they would finish before another raid would come. The H was the leader of his people the jarl. 2018 NYC the h is a lawyer fighting for women who have been discriminated against. She had learned from her mother and her own experience that alpha men were selfish, self-centered and chauvinistic. She would never trust them again. In the middle of a court hearing a Norn approached the h and she was transported to a village in Norway 871 AD. The Norn had told her that there was a man there that needed her. This story covers the h coming to terms with her surroundings and how she could mobilize the women to help the men build the fortress and train to help fight during a raid. The H hated what the h was doing and forbade it; threatened to banish anyone who disobeyed. It was interesting how the h and H came to an understanding and to trust one another as equals. It was amazing what got accomplished. The romance between the h and H was primal and raw animal attraction as well as a deep soul binding connection neither could explain. They were each other’s missing half. I loved the h and H’s characters. They were confident, bold, assertive, hardworking, dedicated, focused and loyal. It was easy to identify with these character’s feelings and emotions as they were very realistic. I loved this story and wished it did not end. I wanted more, more and more. I was intrigued from the beginning. This is definitely a page turn and I highly recommend it.
An adventure that will take you from the first exciting page and leave you breathless to read through to the end! Mariah Stone carried me to a place I could almost see in my mind with her wonderful descriptons and amazing characters! Norway 870 AD! Can you really imagine the time of the Vikings and how they had to fight for everything they had with the fierce warriors? Sigurd and his father, along with many warriors were watching as their enemy, Jarl Fuldarr, was approaching the shore with their ships. The worst was his sister, who he had let go to them to negotiate peace, had been captured by them or was dead. He knew he had made a mistake and his father agreed, “Never trust a woman, Son.”
Donna, a lawyer for discrimination and the rights of women in the 21st century, suddenly finds herself transported back to ancient Norway, that she has been dreaming about! Calgon take me away! She ends up with Sigurd in a whirwind and he thinks it may be an omen from above! Her fiesty self wants the women to help but his prejudices about women push back at her!
Loved this tale and the attraction between these two was sizzling as they take their journey to find how they can be together with their worlds so far apart. Cannot wait to read more!! I was given a signed copy of this book by the author and just loved the cover and blurb!
Story starts in Vornen, Norway 870D. Sigurd and his father with their men are awaiting on the beach as their enemy approaches by sea. His sister Vigdis was sent to secure peace between them. When the lead boat gets there he sees her and their leader Fuldarr. Fuldarr took her as a bride and she gave them information on her father and brothers village defenses. So everyone in the village believes she betrayed them.
New York City 2018 We now meet Donna Cox who is a lawyer in partnership with her mother in their law firm. She meets an older lady in the hallway outside the courtroom and the lady asks her to hold her gold spindle. When Donna touches it with both her hands she passes out. Then wakes up in Norway 870D and meets Sigurd. He and the village believes she is a Goddess. So she helps them with understanding that women can do mens work too. They have a connection and steamy scences between them. When the enemy comes back she is able to help negotiate at first, but when Vidgis got off the ship they saw that she had been beaten and then the men started fighting. There is so much more story, but I’ll leave that to you all. I really enjoyed this story.
The Fortress of Time is a time travel Romance. I loved it. Her other books I look forward to reading. A page turner no question. I just hated to put this down. I recommend it.
