How do you tell a man there is something wrong with his child?—“This is by far one of the best books I have read. Lorhainne Eckhart proved herself yet again by pulling you in with a heartfelt story and keeping your attention with the passion that fills the pages.” — ROMANCE JUNKIES—“A Real Tear Jerker: Omg, I loved this book. I stayed up all night trying to finish it. I cried, My heart broke, I … to finish it. I cried, My heart broke, I have an 18 year old with autism. This would make a fabulous movie.” Reviewer – Tammy
—“Brilliant, there is no other word for it, heart grabbing, heart warming, gut wrenching, well written well researched, wanted to read it over & over again.” – Maureen
—BLACK RAVEN’S REVIEWS — “Ms. Eckhart has crafted a delightful story with engaging characters, enough drama for a Hallmark movie, and enough unconditional love to last a lifetime.”—Rated 5 Ravens and a Recommended Read by AJ!—
In THE FORGOTTEN CHILD, Brad Friessen wasn’t looking to love again. But what he got was a woman who shook his lonely bitter world upside down, and touched him in a way no other woman could.
Emily Nelson, ends a loveless, bitter marriage and strikes out on her own. She answers an ad as a cook and live-in caregiver to a three-year-old boy on a local ranch. Ranch owner Brad Friessen hires and moves in Emily and her daughter. But Emily soon discovers something’s seriously wrong with the boy, and the reclusive, difficult man who hired her can’t see the behavior and how delayed his son is. Emily researches until she stumbles across what she suspects are the soft signs of autism. Now she must tell him, give him hope, and help him come to terms with this neurological disorder–to take the necessary steps to get his child the help he needs.
As their lives become intertwined, their attraction is unavoidable–a connection sparks between them. But just as they’re getting close, Brad’s estranged wife, Crystal, returns after abandoning the family two years earlier.
Crystal must’ve had a plan, as she somehow gains the upper hand, driving a wedge in the emotional bond forged between Brad, Emily, and the children. The lengths to which Crystal will go, the lies, the greed, just to keep what’s hers, are nothing short of cold and calculating. Brad fights to save his boy, to protect what’s his, and struggles over his greatest sacrifice–Emily, and the haunting question: Has he lost her forever.

My son is autistic. It’s nice to be able to find novels that depict what it’s like to live with autism in your life. It’s profoundly different than being a mother to a typical child. It can be very isolating. Another good book I read recently is “love anthony” by Lisa Genova. I’m sure other mother’s who have a child on the spectrum find comfort in …
Great
A wonderful story, very well written, has a bit of everything from drama to romance.
This was a very emotional reading for me as I have someone very dear with Asperger´s Syndrome which also falls in the autism spectrum. Although this story is a work of fiction, in reality we see parents who undergo exactly the same reactions – difficulty to relate and understand their child, denial. Some move forward and look for solutions, others …
I enjoyed a lot about this story. The challenges of dealing with a special-needs child added an interesting element to the story, and picking up the pieces after a marriage ends always makes for a sympathetic read. My problem was that I didn’t much like the characters.
The heroine is definitely the best of the lot, but after having finally found …
Audio Review: The Forgotten Child (Finding Love: The Outsiders) by Lorhainne Eckhart (Author), Melissa Moran (Narrator)
The Forgotten Child is made up of heartache and tears. The first time I read Brad and Emily’s story I kept a tissue box close at hand. The second time, I felt tingles in my heart. The third time I listened to it in audio and my …
Wonderfully written!
This was my first read of this series and I immediately did not want to put it down. I look forward to learning more about the Friessen family.
Loved the whole series.
Loved that the lead male character learned that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover and that beauty is only skin deep.
Emily is finally done with Bob and his abuse. She files for divorce. Brad’s wife leaves after giving birth and goes on vacation. Brad finds her and sees she is with other men. Brad runs a ranch and advertises for someone to live in and take care of his son and cook meals for the ranch hands. Emily gets the job and takes her daughter, Katy, with …
This is yet another a fabulous contemporary romance from Ms. Eckhart.
The story is well-written and filled it with outstanding characters and packed with drama, humour, sex and suspense.
I enjoyed reading this fast-paced book and look forward to reading more from Lorhainne Eckhart in the future.
Pluses were a spunky heroine and good depiction of an autistic child, the big negative was an inconsistent, controlling, hot-headed “hero” who I just couldn’t like.
I have known parents who did not see what was going on with their child. It was a story that reminded me that while some things cannot be fixed they can be helped.
I thought that there was little to no autism research done and it would have been a bit better with more accuracy
“The Forgotten Child” is one of the few books I didn’t finish reading. The subject matter and story was interesting, but the prose had me yawning. The poor writing turned this into a “hokey” paperbook romance. It was disappointing.
The child in this book calls out to you…
My favorite kind of books
Didnt finish it and I’m a voracious reader.
Just kind of boring.
