NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • When this relentless rogue FBI agent comes knocking, her adversaries will have to answer—with their lives—in this thrilling Jane Hawk novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Corner.“Koontz continues the incredible saga of the robust character of Jane Hawk, and it’s as terrific as the others in the series.”—Associated Press“We’re rewriting the … series.”—Associated Press
“We’re rewriting the play, and the play is this country, the world, the future. We break Jane’s heart, we’ll also break her will.”
She was one of the FBI’s top agents until she became the nation’s most-wanted fugitive. Now Jane Hawk may be all that stands between a free nation and its enslavement by a powerful secret society’s terrifying mind-control technology. She couldn’t save her husband, or the others whose lives have been destroyed, but equipped with superior tactical and survival skills—and the fury born of a broken heart and a hunger for justice—Jane has struck major blows against the insidious cabal.
But Jane’s enemies are about to hit back hard. If their best operatives can’t outrun her, they mean to bring her running to them, using her five-year-old son as bait. Jane knows there’s no underestimating their capabilities, but she must battle her way back across the country to the remote shelter where her boy is safely hidden . . . for now. As she moves resolutely forward, new threats begin to emerge: a growing number of brain-altered victims driven hopelessly, violently insane. With the madness spreading like a virus, the war between Jane and her enemies will become a fight for all their lives—against the lethal terror unleashed from behind the forbidden door.

Loved the whole series. Can’t wait for the next book
New to the Jane Hawk series, but was terrified of the concept Koontz puts forth. It’s a suspenseful journey for Jane Hawk and she comes across as a take no holds character. Really fell in love with her plight. The other characters in the book are intriguing and bewildering with the way they think and act. Definitely got to go back and read the series from the beginning! Highly recommend it if a psychological thriller is what you’re after.
I thought this was going to be the last Jane Hawk, so I was annoyed with this author. Normally it’s a treat to read his work, but the superfluous writing and the death count mounting as Jane worked her way to her son was just too much this time. Eventually she’s gonna win or lose and I couldn’t care less .
Jane is my hero! Eagerly looking forward to the last book in the series.
Dean Koontz’ Jane Hawk series keeps getting better and better. It also continues to be terrifying. I love a good horror story, and Koontz delivers in with this series, but not like you’re expecting. This series is chilling in the idea this could happen today and we wouldn’t have a clue.
In The Forbidden Door, Jane is faced with the most terrifying challenge yet. The TechnoArcadians are closing in on what’s left of her family and have her son cornered. Not only that, but they’re getting closer and closer to catching Jane herself. Her almost magical power of knowing when and where to be is being stretched thin. And like any apex predator, her maternal need to protect is riding her hard. Yet she still manages to control both herself and her resources to her advantage.
But the TechnoArcadians are starting to unravel all on their own. It’s a enough to make one wonder if it has something to do with the type personality that is drawn to the organization or is it more? I’ve wondered more than once while enjoying the chase in this installment if the TechnoArcadians mighty be testing more than one form of control.
I love the progression of this series. We started in the Silent Corner, then found the Whispering Room. Jane discovered what was hiding at the bottom of the Crooked Staircase. Now it’s time to find out what’s behind the Forbidden Door.
Considering all the things in the world today this certainly seems more and more realistic as to something that could happen. I’ve enjoyed all the books in the series so far.
Zombie Apocalypse
If you have been following this series, you are aware the bad guys have developed a nanotechnology that affects the human brain. With Crichton and Cook-like medical twists, our technothriller continues to explore both controlled and controllers as our protagonist, Jane Hawk, battles their evil and strives to protect her son. I came into this at Book 3, and Book 4 follows closely on its heels plot-wise. If you are starting here you will find sufficient background supplied to make you au courant (Dubose isn’t the only one to know a bit of French) and the instant action concludes within (i.e., standalone book) but the overall story arc is ongoing. Ongoing TV series or set of blockbuster films? This action could go either way, with the details far better captured by the smaller screen but the chase scenes benefiting from big budget. Our Lone Iconic would have to speak his thoughts aloud, though.
Clearly I am enjoying this drama and look forward to the next volume but fear offering spoilers, trusting the hints I’ve already shared serve merely as titivation and titillation.
Jane Hawk’s mission to prove her husband–and countless others–did not commit suicide seems to be coming down to the wire. I keep thinking, “What else can happen to poor Jane?” And Koontz keeps answering me with a phenomenal story. Love the cast of characters in these novels–even the bad guys are fleshed out. I also love that Mr. Koontz (or the publisher) turns these out rather quickly. I don’t have to wait so long I forget what’s happened in the last book. Can’t wait to read the next one!
This being the fourth book in the series, I read it with high anticipation of Jane and Travis being reunited. There is SOOOO much I want to say about that, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone who is an avid reader of the Dean Koontz Jane Hawk series. One thing I can say is that I love the new character introduced…Cornell. He is a very lovable and strange character who I think, from the way the book ended, almost has to be recurring. I recall chuckling at one point, but it was a short laugh. Too much serious stuff to be giggling about anything! I often found tears in my eyes. The writing is so spectacular; it takes no effort at all to put myself right into the action. I came to love the characters, so much so that I know I will be devastated when (or if) Bernie and Cornell die, which I’m almost positive will happen as no one individual is immune to death in the Jane Hawk series.
The Forbidden Door by Dean Koontz is the forth in the Jane Hawk series and finds Jane still on the run from the conspirators that are taking over the government from within and inspiring countless people to end their lives prematurely. This time, her primary mission is to move her son, Travis, from his current hiding place to a safer one. Her enemies know she is coming for him and are waiting for her and doing their best to find him before she does. It is a complex journey; one that she is not sure will end well. She has many contacts from her time in the FBI…not all above board but most willing to help, for a price.
Jane is a complex and compelling character. She is smart, fearless, loving, and loyal. She is not lacking in courage and is so desperate that she will try anything. She is a planner and her plans seem to work. Some of the characters from the conspiracy have interesting depth and consistency, giving one pause, as the live situations that have formed their personalities are rampant on our society. The plot is complicated, a myriad of roadblocks thrown in Jane’s way, keeping the reader in constant suspense. Will she get past this one? At the same time, books and movies like inspire constant worry in those of us who have lost faith in the government.
I recommend this book for action/thriller readers. It could be read as a stand-alone but would probably be a better experience if read as part of the series. It is a page-turner with plot twists at every turn.
I received a free ARC of this book in order for a fair and honest review. #netgalley
Reason I gave this book three stars was because you have to buy 3-4 more books to get to get an ending. Actually, it was a great story, lots of action but realized I had to buy more books, so that was a bummer.
I am in love with this series and can’t wait till each book is published.
THE FORBIDDEN DOOR By Dean Koontz
I have enjoyed books by Dean Koontz since I picked up his first one. This is fourth book in the Jane Hawk series. It leaves off with a cliffhanger awaiting the fifth book. It can be read as a stand alone but probably most enjoyed after reading the previous books. This book took me awhile to get into the story, probably half of the book. I felt like there was way too much description of things, enough so it seemed a little redundant.
The second half picked up when Jane was getting her team together to try to rescue her 5 year old son while avoiding being killed. There are great characters such as Luther, Bernie, Cornell. Even the bad guys were great characters and entertaining to read about. It turned into a real intense page turner. There is murder, Techno Arcadians, mind control, suspense, espionage. I am looking forward to reading the next installment. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.
This one wasn’t as good as the first three in this series. Thought the story was going to end, but evidently, there is another installment. Maybe more?
Koontz wondered away from the story several times in the first half, to meander through the minds of some of the TechonoArcadians. Didn’t really move the story along and hard to get through. If I wasn’t a die hard fan, might have stopped reading. The second half picked up somewhat.
I give this fourth book in the Jane Hawk series a tentative four stars. I say that because yes, it’s still loaded with the suspenseful paranoia that Koontz is so good at, and there’s plenty of action to keep things rolling. Except that it doesn’t roll that far. We don’t see nearly as much of our heroine, Jane Hawk, in this one. In fact, she almost takes a backseat to the many bad guys in this terrifying conspiracy for world domination. While I appreciate the author’s ability to paint a scene, this one got a little wordy and drawn out. It takes a bit before the title is explained, but I have to say that it certainly added another chilling layer to this story. So, while this one had its ups and downs for me, I’m still intrigued by Jane’s story and recommend it frequently. At this point, I’m invested in the outcome, whatever it may be, so will be checking out whatever’s next for Jane and company.
Jane Hawk is back to kick some more butt in The Forbidden Door by Dean Koontz, the newest installment of the series! I have been following Jane since the beginning and will follow her through to the end. In this book Jane has got to get to her son Travis before the Arcadians find him and kill him. Lots of action in this book, can’t wait for the next Jane Hawk book! Thank you Netgalley and Random House for allowing me to read this ARC book and give my honest opinion.
Dean Koontz is a master at keeping his audience riveted! Jane’s saga continues in mind blowing detail. His skill in keeping all the different scenes in the story flowing seamlessly is mesmerizing. I totally lose myself when I am reading because you cannot help but get drawn into this mystical world that he has created seemingly just for your reading pleasure. The attention to detail, use of repetitive words and sayings, that drive home that sub human existence just gives you a little shiver of fear and excitement. It is a totally awesome book!
Koontz existed in a previous life, he must have been a watch maker, for that is the meticulous care and painstaking precision with which his current work is crafted. Due to his mastery of the written word, rather than dispel a reader’s interest, as may be the case in the hands of any other writer, these details infuse the reader with vivid imagery that brings the story alive. One of his trademarks is crafting several storylines simultaneously that seamlessly coalesce in a dramatic conclusion. This continues to astound, always amazes, and never disappoints the reader.
In this fourth book about rogue FBI agent, Jane Hawk, Jane is avoiding and escaping the foot soldiers of the Arcadian group responsible for Jane’s husband’s death and collecting evidence to expose their plan for world domination. Shortly into the story, Jane’s son, Travis, calls Jane’s burner phone telling her the guardians who have been sheltering him left to get groceries and never returned. With Travis now in the care of a gentle autistic savant named Cornell, Jane rushes to intercept her son before the Arcadian agents can find him. With danger at every turn and a little help from friends collected along the way, brilliance, cleverness and a lot of luck aid her along her journey.
If your familiar with Koontz, you’ll be happy to know that all of his trademark components are alive and well in this book – search for meaning, good versus evil, community/family, higher power, and always the perfectly placed humor. And one thing is certain – he gives a bang for the buck with one of his books equaling four or more books of many other authors. I always know I’m guaranteed hours, even days of delicious escape when I read a Koontz work. This story is everything I’ve come to expect from this author – intense, insightful, poetic and adrenaline fueled – and I can’t wait to read the next installment of this amazing heroines adventures!
I could not put this book down, in the ongoing battle of good vs evil as Jane goes to save her son. This book is a must read if you love Dan Koontz!
Love this Jane Hawk series!! Jane is amazing!! I really love this book! It truly is such an awesome story. Jane Hawk is right up there with Odd Thomas for one of my favorite Dean Koontz characters. This book is intense and I simply could not put it down. Full of intensity and thrills for days and great action as Jane tries to get her son back.
Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC
