Lady Henrietta has been in love with her neighbour since she was eight years old, and always known they were fated to be together. Unfortunately for her, Lord Cottingham seems oblivious to the fact they were made for each other. When she is forced to acknowledge that James thinks of her as nothing more than a friend, she is determined to make him realise just what a diamond he has let slip … through his fingers.
When James Douglas, Lord Cottingham, returned home after a year in Montreal, he expected life to be exactly as he left it. Life, however, has moved on without him, and even his best friend, Henrietta, has changed almost beyond recognition. Somehow she’s become the toast of the Ton, and the handsome, roguish Duke of Devenish seems to be particularly taken with her. James has never had to compete for Henrietta’s attention before, and has no idea how to regain the relationship he took for granted.
Both Henrietta and James struggle to make sense of their feelings, even as their friends and family insist on meddling in their affairs. While Henrietta needs to decide if James truly is the soul mate she’s always believed him to be, James must uncover the truth of his own heart before foolishly throwing away the love of his dearest friend.
The Foolish Friend can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel or as part of the Regency Romps series.

This was a fun read. It’s clean and funny too.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.
This is the second book in the Regency Romps series. It is a standalone book with no cliffhanger ending. It is a completely separate book from the first book in the series and focuses on new characters.
Here, Henrietta, known as Henri, has been in love with James since childhood. James has always seen Henri as his friend – someone who is always there for him and he doesn’t have to think twice about their relationship. James has been in Montreal for a year and Henri has dutifully written go him. But James has not returned a single correspondence and when he returns he is completely oblivious to the fact that his failure to write to Henri has decidedly changed their relationship – she is no longer the girl he can take for granted and she is certainly appealing to other gentlemen. Now James must decide if he should let Henri know the depth of his feelings.
Nothing is worse than being relegated to the friend zone unless it’s the taken for granted friend zone. While it was clear that Henri always preferred James [though I think Duke of Devenish was much more interesting and I hope he gets his own story], James clearly needed a little shaking up to arrive at the same conclusion – I enjoyed his confusion over Henri’s rejection of him and which then turned to fear lf losing her. This was a very enjoyable story with an inevitable conclusion but a nice way to spend an afternoon nonetheless.
I listened to this book – The narrator did a good job.
This is the second book in the Regency Romps Series, a clean Regency Romance. You can listen to this story as a standalone. Henrietta and James’s friends to lovers story is sweet and beautiful. The characters are great, and the storyline is well written, and captivating. If you like Regency Romance, you will love this one. Julia Eve did an outstanding job with the narration. I love her voice.
A very enjoyable and charming story of childhood friends. Henrietta has always loved James but he has never shown an interest beyond friendship. When he returns after being away a year he enjoys teasing Henrietta as if they are children. He neglects to see how grown up she is and how he hurt her by not acknowledging her letters while away. Until another starts show in interest in her, he realizes his love for her but it may be too late after everything he has done to unknowingly hurt her.
Book 2 in this series. It has a good plot and the characters are well developed and interesting. These are stand alones but each book does have characters from the previous. For the most part, the narrative was good, I did have trouble with understanding occasional words/meaning. There was some mild cussing in it of which I wasn’t expecting, that was a downer for me. I’m not sure Regancy is for me, but will finish out the series.
I received this for free and am leaving an unbiased review.
Henrietta and James have been friends since she was 8 years old and she has been in love with him from that tender age but he only thinks of her as a friend.
On his return from Montreal, years later, he finds that he is in fact jealous of the males taking interest in his friend but denies his love for her until he can’t any longer.
Oh, what a pair of mixed up, silly characters they are. They will delight you with their antics and banter. I will admit that couple of times I wanted to give them both a good shake but in the end they came to their senses and acknowledged their love for each other.
Julia Eve has lent her interesting voices to the narration of this story and helped bring the story to life.
I requested and listened to the audiobook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
