Rich and engaging
There is a depth of world building that draws you in and makes you feel as though you are not simply reading this book, but experiencing this world right along Lyria and her battle mates. The conflict Lyria and Vethe experience on their own are the catalyst for what brings them together, and you are able to take that journey with them.
If you like Lord of the Rings, Skyrim, The Witcher, or Assassin’s Creed, you will love this book!
This was a fabulous read. The beginning was a little slow in terms of plot but the writing was just wonderful. I couldn’t read fast enough and was totally invested in the relationship between the two main characters. There are elements of fantasy and action and romance that all pull together to create a compelling read. Can’t wait to read the sequel!
The Flame and The Blade
By
Meredith Hart
This is my first book by this author. It is a well written adventure, with romance mixed in.
The main characters in this book come together under separate circumstances and their strong personalities make it a rough beginning. When their characters get together they have chemistry.
This first book sets the stage for book 2, in a cliffhanger way, I am ready for the second book!
Right away I liked Lyria. There aren’t many well-developed female main characters in the fantasy genre, so finding one really sucked me into the story. She gets her heart broken in the beginning of the book, but is no damsel in distress. Vethe was an engaging character as well. Prickly and aloof, and delightfully sarcastic. I was excited for the two main characters to meet and drive each other crazy.
The writing style kept me interested throughout, and the world building was descriptive without being distracting from the story. I look forward to reading the next installment.
The Flame and The Blade (Flame and Blade Book 1) Kindle Edition By Meredith Hart
Not the Typical read for me, I was pleasantly surprised how this book grabbed my attention and held it. Meredith Hart created great characters in this story and I enjoyed the mixture of romance and action throughout the pages. I enjoyed the Fantasy style writing I’m very picky when it comes to this genre but wow did Meredith really write a great one. I look forward to reading more from her.
The Flame and The Blade (Flame and Blade Series) by Meredith Hart. This is the story of Vethe Scarvian who is a direct descendant of the man who almost destroyed humanity. Vethe has no use for his family’s once noble history. His only goal in life is to get his sister into Citadel. Lyria Guardia let her family down 3 years ago even though she is trained to lead missions to find and recover items. After the man she had built her life around was found by Lyria with someone else she is left heartbroken. She leaves the Adventurer’s Guild and returns to the Guard’s Guild that her family has run forever. The Guard’s Guild is what leads Lyria to Vethe in search of a missing contract and all Lyria cares about is the contract but having to deal with Vethe might drive her insane. While working together their feelings change toward one another and they start to really care about each other. Will there relationship work out or will the chaos of everything be the end of them?
This book starts off by following Vethe Scarvian, direct descendant of the man who almost destroyed humanity. Vethe seeks to separate himself from his family’s dubious legacy. As the black sheep of his family, he’s scraping together enough coins to help his sister with her extraordinary powers ending a life cycle as it did her mother in the past.
Upon finding out about a formal agreement of engagement and marriage hidden in the mysterious Demon Forest, Vethe is only interested in how much money the noblewoman has betrothed to him to escape the contract but first he must locate the contract.
Lyria Guardia let her family down three years ago and she vows to God it will never happen again. Lyria built her life around her man which led to betrayal even leaving her career in the Adventurer’s Guild. As a modern woman, I believe we can all relate to her being humiliated and heartbroken only to return to her family’s Guard Guild for which her family has run for hundreds of years. She’s desperate to prove herself to her family in her next assignment no matter what it is.
This is where Lyria and Vethe’s path cross. This book will keep you hooked with this action-packed fantasy story. Keeps you hooked through every chapter.
This is a great adventure story filled with twists and turns
Lyria ia a member of the Guards Guild who has been given her assignment to protect a noble man on his quest to find a lost contract from his dead ancestor. What she doesnt realise is that the noble man is actually wildmage who’s magic is fire based.
Vethe comes from a noble background however his ancestor is the infamous Duskbringer who almost destroyed the world by opening up a portal and releasing demons into the world. This cause Duskbringer to be defeated and his home destroyed. Vethe enjoys his life of alcohol and women, killing and stealing to get by, however a call from his aunt changes everything. Vethe has a contract to marry a daughter of a very wealthy family and his aunty either wants him to marry her or for her family to pay a large amount of money to get her out of the contract.
The problem is the last known place of this contract is in the destroyed home of Duskbringer, so Vethe and his guard Lyria set out through the Demons Forest to find it.
Will they succeed or is the contract another story with no truth to it.
The Flame and The Blade by Meredith Hart is an addictive fantasy read! I devoured it in one day and am desperate for the next one! There’s magic, romance, humor, demons, and more. I would have loved to see a map that went along with the story though. Otherwise, I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
The Flame And The Blade by Meredith Hart
4 Stars!!!!
Another great new find by yet another great new author. I just love finding new series and authors to read. This book was a breath of fresh air. I found that the author had a very unique world that she has created. The characters just jump off of the page and one feels as though they are in the thick of it with them.
Vethe and Lyria have two very contrasting characteristics but just really click together. I found the book to be perfectly balanced with just the right amount of drama and just the slightest undercurrent of romance beginning. I could feel the chemistry between these two and found that the author really was able to spin an addictive tale. I really like supernatural based stories and I like how the story unwinds and the author ends this one with the opening for the next. I really cannot wait to be able to continue Vethe and Lyria’s adventure and see how all will unfold. I can sense that there is much more to this tale that needs to be spun and told and I for one cannot wait. I really highly recommend this author .
I can’t wait for the next one!
The Flame and The Blade by Meredith Hart has the perfect combination of love, adventure and monsters. I couldn’t put this book down. I really loved it. I think the characters were really well written, I can’t wait to find out more about them. Lyria is a strong, independent woman, she doesn’t let anyone walk all over her and that is clear from the beginning, she has been training her whole life to lead others and is very protective. Vethe is a wildmage, he has had a tough time of it, but I think there is more to learn about his past and hope that this comes out in the next instalment. This is an excellent introduction to this world.
Frist of all the cover and artwork for this book are beautiful its one that drew me to it. This is a very well written fantasy book Meredith paints a picture of for you with her descriptive writing style. This is fantasy at its best monsters, mages, magic and thevies what can go wrong right. Vethe a right smartass her comments can be grunge worthy. Lyrias someone I wish I knew with her quick wit. The world building is fantastic.
The story of Vethe and Lyria was very interesting. It kept my attention and I loved following them as they took this journey to finding each other. I love fantasy and paranormal novels and this series have become one of my favorites. The Flame and the Blade has enough adventure and intrigue to make this novel a good read. I look forward to continuing Vethe’s and Lyria’s journey in the next installment.
The Flame And The Blade. Wow I was totally sucked into this wonderful story. Meredith Hart perfectly painted this tale, the description was so thought out, it felt as if I was there with Lyria and Vethe in the Demon Forest. I found this book easy to read and it was unlike anything I’ve read before, I couldn’t guess what was going to happen. The characters were well written and very likeable. Really pleased this is the start of a new series, I look forward to reading more about Lyria’s adventures in the future.
I give The Flame and The Blade by Meredith Hart, 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this fantasy/fantasy romance book. Both characters feel like failures, yet they must go on. Lyria picks herself back up from heartbreak, swallows her pride, and goes back to working with her family. This sends her on a mission to escort a noble through treacherous lands. She just wants to prove herself to her family. Little does she know just what she will encounter and just how much her way of thinking will be altered.
Vethe just feels useless so he seeks solace in the bottle — many bottles to be exact. His uncle comes to bring him back home so that they can send him on a mission to recover something said to be hidden. They hire the help of an escort, but little do they realize it will be a woman. He learns that maybe his life isn’t so hopeless after all.
The main part of the story is the journey and all that happens during this time. It is so well written, you feel like you are there. The characters are great too. They are not perfect, and they realize this. That makes them very relatable.
If you are a fan of fantasy with romance involved, I highly reccomend this book. I for one cannot wait to read the next book.
The Flame and the Blade by Meredith Hart is a well written fantasy adventure. From beginning to end, the storyline keeps you turning the page. The progression of the relationship between Vethe and Lyria feels natural and unrushed. During their trek to find the betrothal contract, the obstacles they face are written in enough detail, you can perfectly picture it in your mind. The one draw back, in my mind, is the amount of foul language used. This is my first book by Meredith Hart and I cannot wait to read the next book.
When I first saw this book and read the Synopsis, my first thought was ‘Oh this is so my type of book’. Little did I know that would be a complete understatement. As I read more about both Lyria and Vethe I loved both so much. I loved the wit, the humor, the snark, the adventure. I loved how the chapters switched from each point of view but still explained the situations they were going through and internal monologues. This has everything. Action, Adventure, Brilliant Characters, Magic, and very very steamy scenes that weren’t overly done either. I was extremely excited to read this and can’t wait to read more from this author either!
This book… where do I even start?! This book had my attention from the first chapter. I love these types of stories and I could read them again and again. I really hated the ending just because I want to know what happens next so badly!!! Definitely adding this book to my “need” list! I’ll be keeping an eye on this author, I feel like great things will come from her if she continues this series!
The Flame and the Blade (Flame and Blade Series) by Meredith Hart
5 Stars
After reading this book, I realized that this will be an awesome series. I’m very excited to read the rest. Considering how the book ended, I can’t wait to get my hands on part two. This is a fantasy novel filled with magic and adventure, some danger and love.
After getting her heart broken, Lyria leaves the Adventurers Guild and returns to her family’s Guard Guild in shame. Luckily her brothers forget the I told you so and accept her back with open arms. Having to work her way up from the bottom again, Lyria accepts her first assignment. It should have been simple, escort a noble to the ruins of a castle and bring him back home. Unfortunately for her, said noble happens to be an illegal wild mage who is a direct descendant of the man who nearly destroyed the world during the Demon Wars. This ten day trek turned into fourteen days of gruelling conditions filled with life and death situations.
Once I started reading this book, I had a hard time putting it down. I loved the characters and the storyline. The world that the author created was quite interesting with its guilds and magic system. Everything was so vivid and well written. This is an amazing start to a series, that I believe, will be off the charts.
4 Stars
The Flame and the Blade is the first book in the Flame and Blade series by Meredith Hart. It is a wonderful romantic fantasy- with plenty of action, adventure, magic, swords and sorcery, mages, paranormal elements, and fantastic world building.
Ms. Hart has a rich, detailed and descriptive style to her writing- which brought her world and all the characters to life. I was pulled into the story, experiencing all the action right alongside the characters. It was easy to get lost in the story (in a great way) and I didn’t want to leave until I had read every word.
Lyria and Verthe are so well developed, with their own individual personalities, quirks and flaws- the book definitely wouldn’t be the same without them.
This is a captivating start to a new series, and if this book is anything to go by- the rest of the series is set to be fantastic! Can’t wait to get my hands on the second book, “IN THE SHADOWS OF THE CITADEL”.
Well worth the read!
Thank you, Meredith Hart!
