In this “perfect ‘fix’ for the thriller aficionado” (Associated Press) and #1 New York Times bestseller, maverick FBI detective Amos Decker must forge an uneasy alliance with the Defense Intelligence Agency to prevent an international incident that could spell the end of the United States as we know it. Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman … A man shoots a woman execution-style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself.
Even with Decker’s extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter–a family man with a successful consulting business–and his victim, a schoolteacher. Nor is there a hint of any possible motive for the attack.
Enter Harper Brown. An agent of the Defense Intelligence Agency, she orders Decker to back off the case. The murder is part of an open DIA investigation, one so classified that Decker and his team aren’t cleared for it.
But they learn that the DIA believes solving the murder is now a matter of urgent national security. Critical information may have been leaked to a hostile government–or worse, an international terrorist group–and an attack may be imminent.
Decker’s never been one to follow the rules, especially with the stakes so high. Forced into an uneasy alliance with Agent Brown, Decker remains laser focused on only one goal: solving the case before it’s too late.

Amos Decker is back. While walking to work in D.C. he sees a man shoot a woman in the head, then turn the gun on himself. This happens in front of the Hoover building. Needless to say, Amos and the team get involved.
While researching the backgrounds of the shooter and victim, they find several discrepancies. There is a lot of money around that shouldn’t be. An agent from DIA shows up and says the shooter was a spy, selling secrets to the enemy.
Melvin shows up just in time to save Amos’ life. The team works on the murder/suicide while being told by DIA that a terrorist attach is imminent.
This is more complex that the first two books about Amos. He still isn’t likable, but I am still fascinated by the way Amos’ mind works. I was actually able to guess who the real spy was this time. Most of the time Baldacci takes me totally by surprise.
Love Baldacci. Always waiting for his next book.
The best Amos yet! David Baldacci really put Amos through the ringer and he struggles with this case. Captivating story and filled with twist your not expecting to be possible.
Written by one of my favorite authors, THE FIX is true to Baldacci’s signature style—laced with excitement, apprehension, and moves at a breakneck pace.
In David Baldacci’s The Fix FBI agent Amos Decker is heading into the Hoover building when he witnesses Walter Dabney shoot Anne Berkshire, a school teacher and then turn the gun on himself. DIA agent Harper Brown takes control of the investigation pushing Decker and team off to the side only to quickly learn that, in fact, she needs their help. Decker begins to put together clues and he and Brown establish a tentative working relationship on a dark and complicated case.
Love Decker and Jamison! Excited to read them all.
Amos Decker is so captiviating with his unique abiltities that I just love the character. The Fix carries on in a very logical sequence. Overall, great !!
Never read a Baldacci book that I didn’t absolutely love.
Amos Decker is one of my favorite serial characters. His unique memory skills and personality make for an engrossing story. Decker witnesses a senseless murder/suicide outside the FBI Headquarters Building. There are no answers to any of the questions, but Decker finds them. Don’t get too comfortable reading The Fix. Every page will challenge that comfort. Don’t get too comfortable. David Baldacci remains one of my favorite authors and The Fix is another favorite read. Five stars to both Baldacci and the Fix. Superb. Jeff Bailey, author of Not On MY Watch.
I love the Amos Decker series.
This one may have been my favorite Amos Decker book yet.
The Fix by David Baldacci Narrated by Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy
Amos Decker, The Memory Man, witnesses a murder suicide in front of the FBI headquarters. The murder is like a paid hit, but the victim is a hospice volunteer and substitute teacher, the murderer is a well-respected businessman. What is wrong with this picture?
David Baldacci does a fabulous job of ramping up the intrigue and emotion. He litters the story with bread crumb clues that only make sense when you get to the end and piece it all together. He is a master of suspense adding the spice of Decker’s rewired brain, how he views the world, his relationships and his tragic past to add depth to the story.
This is a fantastic series. The author builds the story from a foundation of first views and adds layers of information. We get most of the story from Decker’s point of view, but we also get glimpses of information about him, about the case, and a bit of the past from his friends and colleagues.
I really like the way David Baldacci shows the reader both sides of Amos Decker’s personality and ability. Because of his brain injury he can no longer forget but the ability has come with a cost stealing away the person he was before the injury. The reader gets a little understanding of how difficult this change has been for Amos and how difficult his new personality can be for his friends. While Amos might know and even understand the proper way to behave, he sometimes just can’t be bothered with the niceties.
Great read.
Great suspense. Enjoy reading these.
Typical Baldacci book, meaning fun, exciting beach read.
A real page turner! It will keep you guessing until the end.
So far the best book I have read of Baldacci. The character development is coming nicely along. Although I figured out some of the main plots there were enough twist and turns that I didn’t see until the end. Excellent read.
Never disappointed by Baldacci
I love this series just as much as I do his other ones
Another great book by a great author
Great character
