My life is a friggin’ fairytale—just not the kind any single girl would ever want to star in.LANEY:Like any good heroine, I have challenges to face. Getting my son to wear pants is one; dealing with my snooze-fest of a job is another. Then there’s the Beast, my freeloading brother who’s worn a permanent dent in the couch at my new place. And no fairytale would be complete without a smoking hot … without a smoking hot prince, of course. Too bad he’s a complete ass.
My instincts scream at me to steer clear of Nate Murphy. Because, if life has taught me anything, there is no such thing as happily ever after.
NATE:
I may not be a superhero, but I do my best to come to the rescue when I’m needed. And, hey, I just moved halfway across the country after a single phone call from my mom. But being back home and taking on the responsibilities involved makes me a bit cranky at times. Unfortunately, the one time I completely lose my cool is in front of the hottest girl I’ve ever met. I’ve got my work cut out for me if I’m going to fix this. But I will fix this.
I’ll be anything Laney Monroe needs me to be … a superhero, a prince, or just a guy she might take a chance on.

Enjoyed this one so much I got the next two in the series and loved them as well! Great feel good read!
This is a light and funny romance novel. I really enjoyed it.
Received this free for a review. It is a fantastic romance, you will love it as much as I did.
**”Five stars”**
Wow. What an amazing book. This is my first book by this author but it won’t be the last. I loved the writing, the setting, the characters and the banter. It was such a funny and quirky romantic comedy with strong, loveable characters and some amazing secondary characters. I can’t wait to read the other books.
I loved Laney and Nate from the beginning when they first met. Loved how she stood up to him, everything that followed after and how she was brave enough to take a chance at love. Loved their banter and chemistry, their push and pull; how attracted to each other they were; their struggle to start something; especially loved Nate’s relationship with Rocco and how he was treating the kid. Laney is such a beautiful, strong woman but also vulnerable, sarcastic and funny; her whole world is her son Rocco. That kid is so adorable. Nate is confident, strong, hard working, handsome guy. He loves his family. I loved how he was teasing his sister; he’s also funny and sarcastic. When he met Laney sparks flied, but they were trying to resist each other because the circumstances were not favorable. I loved the way Nate was treating Laney, he was so patient with her, loved how they talked about everything and all those (little) things he did for Laney and Rocco, and that made him so swoon worthy.
If you love heart warming story about second chances, laugh out loud moments – rom-coms, strong characters then this is the book for you.
This is a laugh out loud kind of romcom. Laney’s life is not a fairytale by any means. It could even be a nightmare to some. But Laney lives it with pride. I loved Laney. She is a strong woman who would do anything for her son, and even family. Laney is easy to relate to, her life is real, or at least could be. Nate is just as loyal to family and is the one who wants to fix everything. Until he lets Laney see him at his worst, first. Nate spends his time trying to fix that first impression. The banter between Mate and Laney is so fun. This is a light romance with a lot of laughs and so much fun. It is a great introduction to this series and I cannot wait to read the next one.
Alive Wander had a great performance. I loved how she narrated Laney. Alice really brought out the best, and worst of Laney and made her realistic. Alice has an easy to listen to voice. Her male character voice was smooth and natural. She was easy to follow and read at a great pace. I look forward to hearing more from Alice Wander.
This was an awesome book. Laney and Nate were a great match. The characters were written very well. Laney, Nate and Gavin has fights then apologized and took accountability for their mistakes and forgave each other. I couldn’t put this book down and look forward to reading another book by this author.
A wonderful story. Well written with humour, humour, emotion and believable characters. I loved it and l recommend it to all romance readers.
a great single mom read! Laney is a single mom to Rocco and is also allowing her younger brother to live with her. She takes care of everyone, but nobody really takes care of her. Yes she has a best friend who is there when she needs her, and her parents were great but they moved away. When a construction company buys a lot in her neighborhood she finds herself face to face with the man in charge, who is also her brother’s boss. She gives him a piece of her mind and the sparks fly from that point on! I enjoyed that this book was mature with the characters, so many get caught up in drama and forget about the kid, this book doesn’t do that, thanks from the help of best friend who tells it like it is and helps everyone see it from a different perspective. Great book, great writing and I can’t wait to read more.
Oh my! I don’t think I can remember when the last time I laughed so hard and cried so much while reading a book. I absolutely loved this book. The first from this author for me, but I certainly hope not the last. What a gem she is! Her writing was colorful, her characters quirky yet real, and her story so easy to follow. I am in love with Rocco. He will steal your heart if you’re not careful.
Get to know Laney, the barely holding in there, single mom, as she ponders what her life has become, and her “lost on the road of life” brother Gavin, who is trying desperately to “grow up” and find his way to the highway and some smooth riding. Then there’s Nate, the prodigal son returned to help his ailing father, only to have the most life-changing run-in with a firecracker, better known as Laney. What a ride! A definite must read!
A very funny, but romantic book. Shows that mistakes can be blessings, and first impressions aren’t always right. Highly recommend!
Fabulous Story & Audible Listen A Heartfelt Delight!
The Fix
Carolina Connections, Book 1
By: Sylvie Stewart
Narrated by: Alice Wander
I loved everything about this book, from Sylvie Stewart’s wonderful writing style to the storylines and characters she created. The story is interesting and realistic with a natural flow to it, it grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it until the end. I adored these characters, they are charismatic and full of life. Laney Monroe is a single mom of a five year old boy named Rocco. She is a new homeowner settling in to a new neighborhood, her son is going to a new daycare too. Laney’s bother Gavin also lives with her, after a career ending accident he is still trying to find his way. Laney was happy when he finally landed a job. Nate Murphy was living in Texas, but when his Mom called stating his Dad suffered a heart attack he came back home to help out and run his Dad’s construction business. He meets Laney at a job site set for demolition, it was not the best first meeting he was grumpy and rude but Laney let him have it. Nate has an instant attraction to her and he sets motion to get to know her. Laney is resistant, turns out he is Gavin’s new boss plus he will be moving back to Texas. I loved how well plotted this story is and how it all plays out. Loved how Nate worked his way in to her life and how awesome he was with Rocco, who was just adorable. I liked the family dynamics too, Laney and her brother, all well as Nate’s family who are tight knit, his mom was hysterical. I highly recommend this sweet and delightful story there is never a dull moment there is plenty of great humor, some drama, a bit of angst and the start of a wonderful romance. It is the type of story that puts a smile on your face and keeps it there throughout. I still smile thinking about it and am looking forward to the next book in the series, Fiona’s story, Fiona is Laney’s best friend and she is a hoot. Thank you Sylvie Stewart for this wonderful story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Alice Wander is a terrific narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to life, give each their own voice and personality. She does a great job projecting the emotions of the characters as well as the drama of the story into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen
This book is equally funny, heartwarming, and swoon-worthy. I had so much fun with Laney, Rocco <3 , Nate, Fiona, Gavin, and the rest of the wonderful (and sometimes hilarious) cast of characters, and book #2 in the series is already on my TBR... 🙂
A quick, enjoyable read
Great book from the first chapter to the last.
Being a mom I could relate to the female lead. The story was steamy but sweet
Loved it! Reading the rest of the series now!
A book to enjoy!
This was a fun quick funny romance. It is an easy read and I enjoyed the characters. It kept me interested and I read it all the way through in an afternoon. I did feel like the end was a bit rushed but still enjoyed the book overall.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Very funny. Great dialog.
