I would like to thank Give Me Books Promotion and Len Webster for sending me this ARC. This is the first book I’ve read of Len Webster I have known of her books and did want to pick one up but never got around to it until now. I am so glad this if my first Len Webster book I have so many feelings and just how beautiful this book is. It takes you on a whirlwind of emotions and it’s just fantastically brilliant.
The story is told from two points of views Meredith and Sam and it also goes from the past to the present. I really loved the way this story was told I couldn’t imagine it told in any other ways it really complimented the story and plot and I honestly loved going in the past and present of the story. It hooked me from the start. The way we discovered the story and how we learned things from each of these points of views it was a range of emotions and I really did love it.
The plot I don’t want to give anything away so of course, this review is non-spoiler, the plot was about Sam and Meredith and how they have 7 years of almosts between them and it’s about them dealing with the issues that happened to them in the past that led to them meeting again in the present. I loved (random note: I think I’m still in gushing mode) everything about the plot and the story. I did guess something that happened I kind of knew from the offset of what it was but although I guessed it I didn’t think it took away from the story as there was still surprising aspects that happened in the story and I also didn’t guess how it was going to end which is always good.
Meredith is such a kind-hearted character, she had her own problems through the book and yet she was still willing to do everything for other people. She was always willing to do stuff for people as well as forgive someone even if they didn’t deserve it. I did begin to wonder when she was going to start putting herself first, I loved her character.
Sam’s character he carried so much on his shoulders and took so much responsibility on and some of what he did it made my heart melt he was so sweet and he really cared about his family (his father excluded). The way he took care of his son I really loved those they were my favourite out of the whole book those small scenes I kind of wish they were more.
His relationship with his son’s mother Beth, they had such a nice relationship and it was very healthy relationship especially with the fact they had a son too. I loved the fact her character was so supportive of Sam and that she was willing to do anything to make sure he was happy. Especially as Sam did everything for her when she was 18 and he was willing to give up everything he wanted for Beth and the baby.
I want to go into so much more detail but that will be spoiler erm so I am going to leave this review here and maybe do a video spoiler review so I can gush. I am definitely going to read more of Len Webster’s work because she is a beautiful writer and I loved her writing. She also made me cry the ending was beautiful and it was just perfect. Amazing.
I had the honor to read an ARC of The First Touch Of Sunlight and I loooooved it! Words can’t even describe how amazing this story is.
Len Webster did it again. She tore my heart out with this beautiful story. Her extraordinary writing just makes you fall in love immediately; she rips out your heart and mends it at the same time. No other author made me fell so much. I loved every second of the book.
In general the blurb doesn’t reveal lots of the book and that’s one of the things that makes this book so unique. You just don’t know what’s about to happen. Through the whole book there is this kind of suspense. Not knowing what was about to happen made everything so much more exciting and thrilling. Len just managed to surprise me over and over again with her unexpected storyplot.
The main characters are just amazing! I loved Meredith. She’s just so generous and lovely, so innocent. I loved her from the start and my heart broke for her. She had to go through so much in this book. And Sam, oh Sam is just so sweet and broken. I loved them both.
Oh and Josh and Beth… well to find out about them you should read the book 😉
To be honest this book may require some tissues. It is really emotional, which I love. It is heavy but in a good way. It is just such a special book!
You just have to read it!!! It is the BEST STORY EVER!!
If you are a feels kind of person, this book will sing to your heart. It’s not just feels- you can’t help but be swept into the story. The longing, the love, the despair. I have never experienced (outside of books) that kind of despair and honestly I hope that I never do.
My eyes are burning and puffy. My nose is running like a faucet and the author broke my heart. But no that wasn’t enough for Len Webster, no, Len had to obliterate, eviscerate, and then patch it together using already been used tape. As if reused tape wasn’t insulting enough, you had to go and turn my hearts’ pieces into ash. I will say this- you write oneHell of a story.
But rising from the ashes comes something new and against all odds, against all hope, it’s something beautiful and new.
This book was…
too intense
too well written
too real
So of course, I loved every heart breaking word. I had never read a book by this author and after reading The First Touch of Sunlight that will change. I may need some recovery time though. Wow!!
reviewed for the Sweet Spot Sisterhood
The lies of a boy – the mistakes of a man
Woah…. so it’s been a few hours since I finished The First Touch of Sunlight, and to be honest I needed the time to calm down and regroup, because that ending had me sobbing uncontrollably, crying big fat ugly tears But trust me, this book is totally worth every single tear I shed. A second chance romance that so cleverly tells both stories through the use of flashbacks, Sam and Meredith seemed to be destined to never find their happily ever after with one another … and all because of the lies Sam told when they were 18 years old. I will say, these lies – the whole backstory – is so intriguing, so interesting, so enticing, that you’ll hardly be able to put the book down, because you’re essentially being told two stories in one and each feeds into the other and Len is so masterful is not showing all her cards at once!!
Sam and Meredith – I loved them both so very much!!! Sam had lots on his plate at such a young age and his initial crush on and attraction to Meredith was something he never thought would be anymore than a pipe dream. But when she happens to be in the right place at the right time, a connection is forged that can never be broken – no matter how many times Sam breaks Meredith’s heart, no matter that they spend two years on separate continents, no matter how hard they try to forget each other… I love the way that Len has weaved a beautiful story of trust, betrayal, lies, hope and hurt into a captivating tale you’ll never forget. I was holding my breath (which is really hard when crying!) until the very last chapter, because I truly had no idea how this story would end.
There’s only a few books that have caused me to cry uncontrollably and Len Webster has written two of them (read my review of With the Last Goodbye to see the other book that had me sobbing!!). And this just goes to show what an absolutely phenomenal writer Len is. Because she has a way of making the characters feel so real, their story so fascinating, the emotions so heartfelt – that you cannot help but be swept away by the story, and in my case that means crying like crazy when the story takes an unexpected turn.
And can I also say – this cover is stunning. Len and Najla Qamber do an absolutely incredible job of Len’s covers and this no exception!! Just beautiful
