A sexy single dad STANDALONE romance.Single dad Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The inked, rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. When Bell’s mother walked out of their lives, Andrew vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again.Amelia … them again.
Amelia isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn.
After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract.

The First Taste is filled with angst, drama, and sexy as hell scenes. No seriously, Hot As Hell.
Andrew Beckwith, (OMG), Andrew is the perfect alpha male. He’s protective, intense, determined to get what he wants, not to mention he’s a sinfully sexy single dad?
Amelia Van Ecken, is sassy as hell. Not only is she feisty as hell but she also strong-willed and independent.
Jessica’s books have some of the hottest most intense scenes I’ve ever read. I highly recommend all her books.
Absolutely LOVED this!!
I’m sooo in love with Andrew he might just be my favorite from -Jessica Hawkins- men.
This book was intense. Full of love, passion, growth, trust, uncertainty and fantastic friends and family.
Honestly I can’t even put into words how much I loved this!
5+ stars
Andrew brings his daughter into the city for a weekend with his sister. He ends up being mistaken for a plumber by Amelia (his sister’s boss), & they end up deciding to hook up for the night.
-When can I see you again?
-Whenever you want. That’s what the picture’s for. Goodbye Andrew.
Andrew wants her, but his responsibilities towards his daughter seem to interfere with any personal life he might want. Just as they’re trying to sort this out, exes come back into the picture & complicate things…
& those exes are something else… wow…
“…make no mistake – just because I’m not in lust with you doesn’t mean I’m not crazy horny too.”
“You’re such a poet.”
“Just keeping it real.”
Great story, with realistic characters.
Worth reading!
Single Dad? Check!! Hot biker mechanic? Check!! Precocious little girl? Check, check!! Complete opposites attract? Triple check? Drama and much steamy time will keep you enthralled right until the end. Everyone (or every woman that is) wants a piece of Andrew, but he had nothing to give to any girl other than his number one girl Bell. His ex left her mark and there is no one that will ever be able to crawl up the wall he has built. Amelia has it all…or so it would seem. A successful business in the city and money to do what she wants. But behind the scenes, things aren’t as great as they seem. Can these two complete opposites, the city girl in 4 inch heels and the “grease monkey” from Jersey, every even THINK of making it work? Totally yummy and riveting!
*3,5 stars*
It was my first read from this author and although I really tried to love this one, I feel there was something missing for me. I love single dad romance books but honestly, I struggled to get into it but I feel that it was a good story and had so much going for it. It won’t deteriorate me though and I’ll try other books by this author. I’d definitely recommend this to read as it might be what you would love instead of me 🙂
Andrew is a single dad who is raising his little girl after his ex just left them behind years ago. He’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy and raise her as a strong independent lady. His sister is determined though to get him to see that life is more than that and tries to get him out there again to maybe find love again but Andrew is having none of it. He’s happy and is just trying to do the best for his little girl. But when he meets Amelia, there’s this spark between them that will ignite a fire inside him that maybe will end up being more than just one night promised….
Amelia doesn’t need another man in her life after being burned so badly and even though her soon to be ex-husband tries to win her back, she doesn’t want anyone new in her life. When she first meets Andrew, there’s this attraction between them that she can’t seem to deny. But will it be enough to break, not only her walls, but also his?…
This was a hot and steamy romance where opposites attract with a LOT of chemistry.
I found out early in my reading that there was probably an earlier story in this world. Upon finishing I looked it up and found it to be true, so you might want to start there. They are stand alones though, so it’s totally a judgement call.
I liked the idea of an opposites attract kind of story, though Amelia put me off at first. I also love to read about single dads who are just great people and that’s Andrew in spades. I loved the support system Andrew had in place as well. Just an awesome family dynamic there.
The parts with Reggie were hard for me. I have a big issue with controlling men and people who manipulate situations in order to make themselves look better.
I LOVED the epilogue and that the author had the foresight to know that her readers would want to know where this group of people ended up.
I’m definitely going back to find Nathan and Sadie’s story!!!
I fell in love with Jessica Hawkins-A Slip of the Tongue and could not wait to get The First Taste read. Andrew Beckwith left a lasting impression on me from A Slip of the Tongue…so when I heard this book was going to be all about him…Could not wait!
Jessica Hawkins did a fantastic job of writing this one. A super hot, single father…who doesnt immediately fall in love right there! He’s been burned by the mother of his child, Bell…and is convinced that he will never love again…
Amelia Van Ecken, she really reminds me of The Devil wears Prada woman… runs her own business, fashion is a priority, success is a must…. never wants messy little rugrats in her life… severely burned by her husband, left to pick up the pieces and move on in life….
These two are so different, black and white, hard and soft, big and little….you name it they are opposites… Can it work out for them? Can two from different sides of the track make the train run smoothly? From the first page till the last, this one was a page turner!!!

Andrew (Sadie’s brother from Slip of the Tongue) gets his own story and I was so excited to dive right into this book. Jessica really knows how to write them. Andrew’s wife just up and left him and their 3 yr old daughter Bell one night 4 years ago in the night, no explanation. It has hardened his heart against love and made him very protective of his little girl. Sadie, Nate, and his friends have all rallied to help him become the amazing father he is.
Amelia is in the middle of a messy divorce from a cheating and unethical basard. Most of his money was made by insider trading and blackmail. She swears off men. She is Sadie’s boss.
Then Amelia bumps into Andrew in the office and mistakes him for the plumber. Instant sparks! This romance takes off from that day and oh my gosh, you can’t put this book down! The attraction between these two is off the charts steamy, and the bond that grows between Bell and Amelia (Mila) is precious in its awkwardness.
Of course we have the angst of the exs to intrude on this bubble bath of delight and long swigs of Glenlivit along the way. This is so good, you will whirl thru it in a breeze and jump right into the 3rd book, Finn and Halston’s story, Yours to Bare, just like I am about to! So go and get this book while it’s free on KU. Anything Jessica writes is guaranteed to be great!
Believe it or not…. I adored the sound of this book first off because of the lead female character’s name – Amelia – which I LOVE! Silly I know…!
Amelia is a sassy, feisty and independent business woman; in the middle of a messy divorce. She keeps largely to herself and does not indulge in the idea of meeting anyone new.
Andrew is a doting single father. Nothing matters more in the world than his daughter, Bell. After Bell’s mother disappearing on them, Andrew has made it his mission to ensure that Bell is always his top priority.
While visiting his sister at work one day, Andrew runs into her boss – Amelia. Instant attraction!
Amelia and Andrew decide to have one night together – no strings. Just to give each other what they need in just that moment. What they don’t anticipate is that they inadvertently create strings. What was supposed to be a one night thing, where they walked away and never spoke to each other again; quickly becomes the most amazing thing that could of happened to them.
I adore Jessica Hawkins’ writing, and have read a few of her books before this one. I gave her previous books 4-5 stars…. And this book has been no different! It’s emotional, it’s alpha, it’s sexy, it’s amusing – it is everything I would of expected from a Jessica Hawkins book.

I think each book in this series has gotten better. I really enjoyed Sadie and Nate’s story. Loved Finn and Halston but this book is EVERYTHING I love in a romance. Andrew is a single dad doing his best to raise his daughter after his ex walks out one day and never comes back. Amelia is in the middle of a very acrimonious divorce and is very jaded.
“I’m a man, Amelia. I treat women like treasure. I treat my girlfriend like the love of my f@#$ing life. And I treat an a$$hole like an a$$hole.”
Both have sworn off love but can’t deny their chemistry. Can they open up and risk falling in love again? Should they risk it?
