The First Shot: Book One in The Lieutenant Kane Dedicated to Death SeriesFor Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane, death is his life. If a single award existed for sinking himself into his work, he’d have two.But the latest crime scene he’s called to, an old abandoned factory, leaves him with more bodies than leads. Three drug dealers are found shot to death—not an uncommon sight in the least. The … uncommon sight in the least. The problem lies with the pair of middle-aged women—bound, gagged, and executed—found at the same location.
Before he can sink his teeth into the initial investigation, Kane is called out to another multiple homicide. He comes up with only more questions when the second group of murders appears connected to the first.
As the lieutenant tracks down the few leads, he begins to get a clearer picture of those he seeks. That picture quickly turns crystal clear when Kane finds himself face-to-face with someone that “armed and dangerous” doesn’t even begin to describe.

Lots of action
Loved this book
Gritty, well written story.
It was bloody but I couldn’t put it down. Read it in one day.
I thought this book was too graphic. I didn’t think the characters were as well developed as they could be. I wasn’t drawn to any of them. Perhaps in future books they will be but this was just ‘OK’.
I felt I knew the characters, and understood their motivations, but was still in for a surprise!
Great read ! Action packed from the first page. Highly recommend !
Grisly and cold-blooded. Not my favorite.
This was a page turner from start to finish ……The Tampa area is one that I am familiar with , and therefore made it a great read…..Although a little unusual with the amount of homicides …….It nevertheless was a very interesting intriguing show of police methods associated with investigations
I would recommend this book to anyone interested a good mystery……..
Good plots and subplots. Couldn’t put it down, and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars was it was far more bloody that I’m comfortable with.
Great detective read-realistic, good character development.
The writer knows about police work, but I wish he would have described Tampa. The way this was written, it could have been about any city.
I really enjoyed this book it kept me interested from start to finish it was hard to put down I wanted to see how it all worked out I would recommend this book
Good reading!
Great Police Procedural
pointless violence
this book informs us with what are police detectives deal with regularly. How appreciative we are for their hard work in keeping us safe.
Too much killing for no reason
The book seemed one dimensional with the action focus on 1 ruthless killer. Not a lot of character development and I found it hard to empathize with the main character. I wanted to know more of the back story of all characters.
A good read with lots of twists and turns. Very enjoyable.
