The First Shot: Book One in The Lieutenant Kane Dedicated to Death SeriesFor Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane, death is his life. If a single award existed for sinking himself into his work, he’d have two.But the latest crime scene he’s called to, an old abandoned factory, leaves him with more bodies than leads. Three drug dealers are found shot to death—not an uncommon sight in the least. The … uncommon sight in the least. The problem lies with the pair of middle-aged women—bound, gagged, and executed—found at the same location.
Before he can sink his teeth into the initial investigation, Kane is called out to another multiple homicide. He comes up with only more questions when the second group of murders appears connected to the first.
As the lieutenant tracks down the few leads, he begins to get a clearer picture of those he seeks. That picture quickly turns crystal clear when Kane finds himself face-to-face with someone that “armed and dangerous” doesn’t even begin to describe.

This is an excellent police procedural. Lieutenant Kane, a divorced work alcoholic police homicide detective takes the lead in this book. The story stays mostly with police work but does sideline briefly to his personal life but not enough to take away from the main theme of the book. The First Shot starts off almost easy going and then the pace really picks up. I enjoyed the storyline and the writing. The book could be an episode of the old Law & Order because of solid police work. Before you know it, you will find yourself caught up in the story and not getting up until you finish the book. The criminals well now that is the reason you keep reading and praying Lieutenant Kane finds them and finds them soon. This is the first book in the Dedicated to Death Series.
Great read look for other books by the same author
Very easy book to read!
Great book
This book got me hooked on EH Reinhart.
WTF! I loved this authors books until I read this one…. Not what I would expect from this author. I got the impression this was a bad first attempt to write a detective novel that was released after the author got it right. Shame.
I had a hard time putting this book down.
Good book. Not earth shattering, but an enjoyable read.
I actually read the 2nd book before the 1st. It was a bookbub recommendation and then I went to find the 1st to buy. I really enjoy the style of this book. It really keeps me entertained and is easy to read. The main character, Lt. Kane is easy to relate to. I enjoy reading from his perspective and the mystery unfolds while following his actions. I always enjoy a good murder mystery and this is no exception. The story line is compelling and easy to follow. If you like to work with the detectives while reading a novel this is one for you
This is the 2nd book I read by E.H. Reinhard. I enjoyed this book’s storyline. I really liked the action in this story. I loved Kane’s character. I really liked the ending.
Very fast reading. Couldn’t put it down. Loved the characters.
I received a free electronic copy of this novel from DigitalBookSpot and E. H. Reinhard. I have read this novel of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. I am pleased to recommend this novel with friends and family.
The First Shot is the first of the series Dedicated to Death. It is a police procedural, with fast action, intriguing protagonists, and a well-disguised mystery. Taking place in Florida, we have some great weather and pretty scenery as well. There are places a little more raw than usual but if you liked Burn Notice or Travis McGee, you will enjoy E. H. Reinhard and Lieutenant Kane. Beach reading with a twist of blood…
Enjoyed reading this. I like thrillers and this was worth reading.
Can’t wait for the next one!
This is a good book with true to life characters and likable police. The criminals are really twisted. The book is well written. I hope to read more by this author.
Lieutenant Kane pursues a multiple murders investigation to find the reason and the villains. Great read.
Good plot. Interesting characters. Give it a 4 star rating
Excellent! Kept me on the edge of my seat!
This is what I think is a police procedural, I won’t be reading one again soon. Very bloody, and on top of that, not much concern for the victims. I’m a who dun it nut, so this had no charm for me.
Great story line, kept me in suspense and then couldn’t wait to finish it! Thank you!
