900+ pages of comically crazy paranormal cozy mysteries.
Andy Caplet couldn’t follow a lead if it held him by the hand. So he’s not completely surprised when he’s fired from the paper, loses his flat in The Cotswolds, and has to bunk with an eccentric detective. With nothing better to do, … eccentric detective. With nothing better to do, Andy impulsively tags along on his new roommate’s decidedly abnormal investigations…
Inspector Hobbes deals with his stressful career by chomping on bones. He’s been using his mysterious powers to sniff out crime longer than Andy’s been alive, but even he can tell something extra unnatural is afoot. Having a partner may help him whether the wannabe vampires, wacky werewolves, and dastardly villains.

The Unhuman books are fresh, funny and so unique I couldn’t stop reading. I admit I lost sleep because I couldn’t put them down. The characters delightfully quirky and unique. The mysteries are satisfying yet off kilter. And if you enjoy the occasional pun…this series is loaded with word play in the most delightful way. The British humor warmed my heart evoking Monte Python, Blackadder and Dr. Who. The only problem with this series is there aren’t enough of them!
I enjoy mysteries and usually stick to serious writers, but I also enjoy sc-fi, paranormal ones if they aren’t too badly written, so I tried this writer and the books are a delight. The narrator is an accident-prone dufus but he adds hilarity to the adventures of the unhuman police detective’s cases. I can think of no group to attach these mysteries to: they are highly original!
Loved the characters! Great read! Highly recommend!
Very funny, British humor, unusual characters. Thoroughly enjoyable!
The main character was a bit off putting.
What a delightful book series. I was enthralled from the first chapter. I read all three in a matter of days and grabbed the next book in the series immediately. A cozy Cotswold mystery crossed with peculiar supernatural people equals great fun. I loved Hobbes, the village policeman, who is just a little bit different and his plucky (if a tad lazy & cowardly) sidekick, Andy Capelet.
Entertaining and held my interest. The point of view character started off very annoying and unlikeable. he got better, but still seemed rather dim – the mysteries were not difficult to figure out.
Bought this bundle of three books on a whim and really enjoyed them. The characters are thoroughly original and odd but in a good way. They can be loosely described as mysteries but getting to know the characters is actually more fun. I am well into Book 3 and I still don’t know what Inspector Hobbes is albeit “unhuman” with a big heart.
This book began like many British mysteries, but there were hints that all was not normal in this English town. One of the protagonists was a failed journalist, who encountered a rather odd policeman, who took pity on the jobless and homeless young man and invited him to share his household. Unusual and nearly unbelievable things ensue. The Unhumans often seemed more human than the humans. I was eager for the rest of the books in the series.
I am currently reading this book; Inspector Hobbes is an interesting character; glad to see he’s improving narrator’s qualities.
These stories are hard to figure out at first but I’ve found them worth it. Never quite sure of time anyplace but lots of quirky characters mixed with mythical beings..
If you like puns, this is a great set of books. If you don’t like puns, well maybe stay away. I was a little offput at the beginning of the first book as the narrator is a bit of a loser, but he gets a bit more like-able with every page. It’s a fun set of books, but the mystery part isn’t bad either.
A whole new way of looking at the world through the window of a strange little English town full of strange, but somehow believable characters. The bundle will keep you awake nights because the stories are such a fun read you want to finish them to get on to the next one. Well worth the read!
So in this world, there is so much unanswered but the mystery of it keeps you drawn in.
Fun premise that stretches thin before long.
An absolutely unexpected delight.
The characters are wonderful, the stories fun and somehow you are always left with a little smile of wonder on your face.
Really loved this series. Lots of fun .
What a great read!
Strange characters in a strange setting.
Loved it and hoping for more
