When Mitch McDeere signed on with Bendini, Lambert & Locke of Memphis, he thought that he and his beautiful wife, Abby, were on their way. The firm leased him a BMW, paid off his school loans, arranged a mortgage, and hired the McDeeres a decorator. Mitch should have remembered what his brother Ray–doing fifteen years in a Tennessee jail–already knew: You never get nothing for nothing. Now … the FBI has the lowdown on Mitch’s firm and needs his help. Mitch is caught between a rock and a hard place, with no choice–if he wants to live.

Far better than the movie, but then, the books usually are.
His best book.
Just a really good read.
Probably my favorite Grisham novel, you find yourself wondering exactly how he’s going to live through it.
Everything he writes is good.
Unexpected and clever plot twists. Much better than the movie.
John Grisham, great book amazing story and an eye into how the law helps protect corruption in this instance and the depths an man caught in the middle may need to take to save in life and family
yet another terrific novel. he never writes a bad book.
One of my favorite authors. Another great book!
Full of twists and turns.
The one that put Grisham on the map, and for good reason. Remains one of his top 5 and even his weaker stuff is still above average.
Another goodie from John
I enjoy the majority of Grisham’s novels, especially his legal ones. This is one I’d put near the top, along with Pelican Brief, The Client, and similar. Several I’ve also enjoyed when re-reading (after a few years to forget details), and also as a movie / on TV.
John Grisham’s second-greatest book. The second read was better than the first.
Great plot and made for a good movie too.
One of the best he’s written
First book I read by John Grisham!
The book is better than the movie. So if you liked the movie read the book.
One of my favourites from John Grisham!
