When Mitch McDeere signed on with Bendini, Lambert & Locke of Memphis, he thought that he and his beautiful wife, Abby, were on their way. The firm leased him a BMW, paid off his school loans, arranged a mortgage, and hired the McDeeres a decorator. Mitch should have remembered what his brother Ray–doing fifteen years in a Tennessee jail–already knew: You never get nothing for nothing. Now … the FBI has the lowdown on Mitch’s firm and needs his help. Mitch is caught between a rock and a hard place, with no choice–if he wants to live.

Love the sneaky big-business greed get its comeuppance! Another one of Grisham’s reads that draws you right into the world of the story being told.
I was stranded in an airport and bought this book. I wasn’t a reader until I bought this book. Now, you won’t see me without a book in my hand. I usually buy the hard bound and they are trophies in my “library”. John Sanford changed my life.
Legal thriller. Will suck you in.
Even if you haven’t seen the movie, Grisham builds and grabs you with the story.
John Grisham is a master story teller, he always draws me in to the world he is writing about. And so I learn about new worlds through his books. Excellent read on law, high-pressure lifestyle, and hearts of good people.
Exceptional read. Really enjoyed this story. Kept me interested to the end.
Excellent read. Full of evolving action.
a GREAT legal thriller
Best !!
This is the best Grisham book I’ve read. He’s a great writer, so that’s saying something. For once, I have to say the movie version was as good as the .book. And that’s really saying something, too, since it’s so rare. I recommend all of this writer’s books.
his best
Great story, great book. I love all John Grisham’s early books. I just found this one a bit slow and repetitive at times but well worth the read.
This was one of John Grisham’s first books, and still one of his best. Definitely a “stay up all night and read it all the way to the end” kind of book
I love all of this series
One that is hard to put down
Read a lot of Grisham’s books. My favorite was A Time To Kill.
All of Grisham’s books follow the same formula. Read one, read them all
Classic! One to read again!
My first John Grisham book. I have read every one sense. Great legal thriller
Fantastic book that I read a very long time ago but still vividly remember. I’m a huge Grisham fan, which started with this book.
