When Mitch McDeere signed on with Bendini, Lambert & Locke of Memphis, he thought that he and his beautiful wife, Abby, were on their way. The firm leased him a BMW, paid off his school loans, arranged a mortgage, and hired the McDeeres a decorator. Mitch should have remembered what his brother Ray–doing fifteen years in a Tennessee jail–already knew: You never get nothing for nothing. I read this book a long time ago and loved it. A lot of edge of your seat excitement and danger. Better than the movie!!
I read this one when it first came out and just ran across it in my bookshelf and enjoyed it again. Way better than the film. Tons of suspense and of course the end is just awesome! Anyone who enjoys legal thrillers, mystery and psychological suspense will love it!
I decided to revisit “The Firm” as it nears its 30th anniversary. Surely, many younger readers missed it (and the movie adaptation starring Tom Cruise). It’s long been my opinion that “The Firm” and Scott Turow’s “Presumed Innocent” (1986) redefined the legal thriller…or maybe even invented it. At the very least, they both brought more realism …
I read this book 25 years ago and it’s the one that started me reading. Just reread it and enjoyed it again.
I loved this book. It has a really creepy undertone that makes you wonder about ordinary daily things in your life being more than they seem. I had a hard time putting it down to go to bed.

That said I was skeptical because of the movie. Although I enjoyed the movie very much, I harbor an intense dislike of Tom Cruise . . . that’s just me. …
One of my favorite John Grisham books!
Great book!
I think this was the first Grisham book I read and I was hooked!
When newly qualified lawyer Mitch McDeere considers offers from a bevy of law firms, it’s Bendini, Lambert and Locke who table the biggest salary and the most benefits. However, Mitch and his wife soon discover that this particular law firm has a few skeletons in its cupboards – and not only the unexplained recent deaths of some of its workers. …
I stayed up all night to finish this book! I loved it! I don’t very often stay up to finish a book or read a book in a day.
Terrific book! Grisham is obviously a great storyteller. The movie was great too, but the book provides such great detail and insights in numerous areas as only a book can. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and would even consider reading it again one day.
one of the best Grisham books.
