Wow! What a book! I can easily see this being made into a movie or mini-series. Psychological twister which I am afraid relates to more young people today than we would like to believe. This is also an inspirational tale as the two main characters overcome their tragic circumstances to enjoy a fruitful, and in many ways, a successful life path. I can’t wait to read the other three books in this series!
Sophie Shields never had it easy. She never knew her parents and has only experienced abuse during her time in the foster care system. She felt like her life was meaningless and worthless until a young boy entered her life.
Cole was the first person to keep promises. The first person to always be there for her. The first person that actually cared about her. Although he lost his parents in a horrific fire, he was Sophie’s rock.
Cole eventually becomes a famous architect, and Sophie ends up working for the CIA as a code breaker. When she hears about his murder, her life shatters. She doesn’t believe it, and she uses her code breaking skills and connections to find the truth.
As she follows a trail of clues and old letters, the story switches from the past and present. The precious moments from the past are raw and emotional. It felt like someone was punching my heart.
The Fireproof Girl took me by surprise, and I could not stop reading this book. I loved the romance, mystery, and angst. This beautifully written story kept me continuously guessing, and I can’t wait to read The Bulletproof Boy!
Graphic scenes were so very gruesome and gory. Not necessary to use the gd word either, very unnecessary.
A great book that kept you in wonder and wondering what is going to happen next. A great read. I recommend it.
This book has be captured from page 1 to the end. I loved it. I plan on purchasing the next book in the series before the end of the summer.
Well done Loretta!
There was parts I really enjoyed but then some I just had to flip pages. My favorite party was the letter Sophia found from Cole. I could really feel his pain
I really needed to think twice about this review. It is definitely a page turner! I couldnt put it down. It was crazy, adorable, exciting, funny… I totally fell in love with Scar and Cole when they where kids. So cruel and awful how human beings can be. My heart went out to both kids, as well as their adult version.
Why not 5 stars?
Well, I can totally be ok with a story ending in a cliffhanger BUT, not when the there is no closure at all. The only thing which is solved… SPOILER… that Cole is not really dead but that I actually knew right from the start, since there is a sequel about him.
So you need to buy the second book if you want to get the whole story, to get to know what the heck happened. So the end was pretty disappointing and a little dragging in comparison to the rest of the book.
This was a different kind of book for me. It was kind of weird, strange, and, just, different!! But I loved it! It was really good. Loved the characters too. Totally recommend this….in spite of the few places of bad language.
I really enjoyed this book
This book could have been a five star review. But I felt like there was a lot of fluff through the first 3/4 of the story, only to find the ending was rushed. Part of that is due to the cliffhanger.
This author is very good with making you feel her characters. The angst written in was palpable. With so many great angles to this story, I felt let down with the ending. Even still, I would say it’s worth a read. And I look forward to sampling a different series by this author.
intense and compelling but a difficult read due to child abuse depictions. The books ends with some relief but the story is ongoing, requiring purchase of the next book in the series.
I liked it a lot!
I really enjoyed this book tough to put down!!!
I really enjoyed this boo.
weird
A lot of the text seemed repetitive but may have been necessary to establish the depth of their relationship. Going to read the next one and hope it picks up.
Touches the soul
It took me some time to ‘get into’ this book but its good. Be ready to purchase #2.
May it about half way through before deleting it. Not enjoyable. Too dark.
This book was challenging to read. The characters were original and interesting, but there was a lot going on with one of the protagonists making it a bit challenging to keep up with the story line.
