Two Women.
One Mysterious Relic.
Separated By Centuries.
Nicola Marter was born with a gift so rare and dangerous, she kept it buried deep. When she encounters a desperate woman trying to sell a small wooden carving called , claiming it belonged to Russia’s Empress Catherine, it’s a problem. There’s no proof.
But Nicola’s held the object. She knows the woman is telling the truth.
Beloved by … the object. She knows the woman is telling the truth.
Beloved by readers as varied and adventurous as her novels, you will never forget spending time in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susanna Kearsley’s world.

Kearsley once again uses dual storylines in The Firebird and, once again, creates a masterpiece. The current day storyline reintroduces us to Robbie (from The Shadowy Horses) who is now a grown man. Robbie meets Nicola who has the ability to glimpse the past through objects that she touches. Nicola touches the Firebird and we are taken back in …
I’m a big fan of Susanna Kearsley. I was hooked from the opening line of this novel: “He sent his mind in search of me that morning.”
Nicola Marter has the gift of telepathy which she shares with Rob McMorran. Unlike Rob, Nicola has hidden her gift. She thinks looking into the minds of others is a dangerous skill. This changes, though, when a …
I love this author. The way she writes has you enthralled and you’re sad when the book ends. Her characters are so likeable and you can relate to the situations that are depicted in the book. The historical aspects are well researched and after reading you feel like you’ve actually visited the places being described.
I love all this author’s books and I tell her so every time I see her at a book signing. She mixes historical romance, contemporary romance with paranormal elements so beautifully, usually telling two captivating tales in one story. I’ve decided to start listening to her books on audio soon, just to get a new perspective. I’m sure I’ll fall in …
5 Stars
This book was really terrific. I loved the back and forth between the present and the past! Nicola and her friend Rob can sense the past. They go to Russia to see if they can find proof about the Firebird once belonging to the Russian Empress!
I have read quite a few books by this author and have enjoyed all of them. This one may be one of my favorites. The author always uses some sort of ESP (Extrasensory perception or sixth sense) to go back in time and in this story it is mainly through Psychometry, (to see something from having touching an object) and it also involves some other …
As The Winter Sea is one of my favorite books of all time, I am so glad to have read further account of Anna, daughter of John Moray and Sophia. She is every bit the child/woman her genes dictate. I liked her very much.
I love the history of it all, but it seemed too much. The vivid, if overwhelming, details of St. Petersburg and there are so …
The author’s choice of words put you into the scenes and you could easily be a part of the story. I love all of her books.
You can never go wrong with a book written by Susanna Kearsley! The Firebird is one of my favorites by her. She writes her characters so that it seems you know them. Her way of telling a story draws you in so that when you find yourself turning the last page you are sad to see them go. This book ties in with The Winter Sea and The Shadowy Horses. …
Love all of her books!
I have never found a Susanna Kearsley book I didn’t love. This book is no exception. Kearsley is a master of tying her storylines together.
Great book!!
A solid 2nd half to The Winter Sea, not entirely what I hoped for or expected but a really good story nonetheless.
Another mesmerizing book. I hate when the story ends. Even if the author wrote a 5,000-page book, it would be over too soon.
I loved the characters in this book, both current day and historical Russia. Excellent descriptions and evolution of the characters in both time periods, making this a real page turner. If you like Susanna Kearsley, you will love this book. Highly recommended.
