The best for last….
Tommy was that special friend with his class clowning ways and his sparkling personality that sometimes got him in hot water; especially for his off colored commits.
However on a serious note everyone knew just how close things could have ended on a different note.
Evelyn still had issues with that man that totally confound her on one hand she’d love nothing better then to squash him like some bug under her shoe but on the other hand.
Yeah that was better off left unsaid.
Tonight Tommy hadn’t been prepared to respond to a call like this one; especially when the person they’d rescued was someone he knew.
And lost before they ever had a chance.
Tommy knew some people wouldn’t necessarily want to see beyond his wild past because at one time that’s all he wanted; which was a pretty woman who was warm and most definitely willing and zero expectations for more.
But now he’d had plenty of time to realize just what he wanted and he wasn’t going to waste anymore time.
Evelyn had been happy to see her brother but she ended up dozing off once again; however its truly amazing what one might hear when others think your sleeping.
Wow the revelations that came to light; and here she thought she knew her family but apparently not.
I knew her older brother wasn’t ticked any shade of pink when I expressed my desire to date his sister but one day he’ll realize he can’t scare me off and yep I know I have an uphill battle trying to convince Evelyn I’m not playing childish games and that I’m truly worth the risk.
Now church was supposed to be for great sermons and joyful songs not for an older busybody pass her prime wanting to stump on someone’s else life.
While Evelyn was dealing with her own issues because the last thing she wanted to do was to start wearing rosy color glasses or unconsciously bury her head in the ground.
Tommy was having a wonderful time out with his girl when he noticed something and in a flash was off to save her.
He truly felt sorry for his friend Liam after all who wants to be related to and over blown empty headed baboon with zero manners.
Tommy never expected when he went to work something like this would possibly happen but sometimes things just don’t go the way you think.
So now he was forced to make the hardest choice ever.
and when unfortunate evens come knocking on their doors leaving them to stunned to think they’ll have to figure out how to pick themselves up again.
So live life for all it’s worth;
laugh, sing, and dance as if no one’s watching.
Because there are no guarantees in life and when the bad things happen and it’s storming and raging outside.
Remember it can’t last forever and sooner or later the Sunshine will chase the bluster away.
This is the first book that I have read from this author. It was an ok read for me. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and I felt that was not needed. Tommy and Evelyn were an ok couple. Tommy was a bit of a womanizer and you weren’t able to get away from that because the author kept saying it over and over again. That took away from the story for me. Other than that, it was an ok story. I am interested in reading the first 3 books of this series because I am not going to let my feelings for this story hamper how I may feel about the other books.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I was given a copy of this book by the New Adult Book Club and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
Just like so many other readers who read and loved ‘The Hurricane’ series, I was waiting ‘patiently’ for Tommy’s story to be released. So I was very excited when I discovered that the writer R.J. Prescott had writing it! Before reading ‘The fire’ I did a reread of the previous books in this new adult series and I’m very glad that I did. Because I rediscovered just how much I loved this series and how funny Tommy was. So I was happy that the writer kept Tommy’s unfiltered thoughts and mouth in this story but that we also got to see a serious side of him. In other words, I liked the ‘grown up’ version of Tommy but I loved the fact that the adult Tommy still had this youthful, playful, even naïve side in him. Tommy will always be Tommy no matter what age he is. Evelyn was also a very likeable character and the fact that she worked in a library and loved books, well that made her almost perfect in my eyes ;o)
However, the differences between Evelyn and Tommy couldn’t have been bigger. He has been with a lot of women (and I really mean a lot!) and she is still a virgin. She’s very serious, quiet and shy and he’s very playful, impulsive and loud. But still, they were so perfect for each other. They had each other back in every situation and they really stood up for each other. Evelyn really made Tommy work for every date and I loved that. The story is told in both POV’s.
But although I enjoyed the story and the last part was very emotional and very unexpected (and I’m still not sure what to feel about it), I still thought that the end felt a little bit rushed. I would have LOVED to read about Tommy’s and Evelyn’s wedding night. Just like Tommy, I was looking forward to read about their first ‘real’ night together. I was very grateful for the other epilogues that we got in the end, I enjoyed those very much but I just missed a scene where they made love for the first time (but that’s my personal view). One other thing that I also missed in this story was the presence of Earnshaw in this story. Although he’s mentioned in the story, I never really felt his presence in it.
I liked ‘The fire’ but the first two books of this series are still my favourite ones.

The Fire was the fourth book in the Hurricane series by RJ Prescott.
There were so many facets to this story that it was a hard review to organize. First, I loved Tommy. He was the funny, flirty man whore in all the previous books and you couldn’t help but adore him. He was all that and more (minus the man whore) in The Fire. We also learned the depths of his loyalty and the role he played in the family. Who knew? As for Evie, what an unlikely pairing. It took awhile to get there – because hey, polar opposites in every sense – but I enjoyed the journey.
I also loved the bantering between the lifelong friends, their chosen family. It had been awhile since I had read the previous books, but I quickly got back up to speed once all the bantering began. It was comical but built on a foundation of loyalty.
Prescott also introduced a suspenseful plot that ran simultaneously with the relationship development. If the book was divided into four parts, I loved the first, third and fourth parts. The one remaining was a little slow for me but once it took off again, it flew. I would however be remiss if I didn’t mention the numerous editing errors. There were too many to overlook, but the storyline itself was well developed.
No spoilers so no plot elaboration, but Prescott took us through a myriad of emotions. I loved it and it was well worth the read.
4.5 Stars!
The characters are written so well in this one that I couldn’t help but to be sucked in to the Driscoll’s Gym family. While this is Tommy and Evelyn’s story, you get something from all the characters and they stick with you when the book ends. This story has a little bit of everything; angst, suspense, second chances, boy boy/good girl and a whole lot of love. It was very emotional, it made me laugh and it made me cry. I feel I could say so much more but I don’t want to give anything away ~ Just know that this one is complete and it will leave you feeling.
I am going to admit here that I look my “The Aftermath” mouse pad everyday, but this is the first The Hurricane series book I have written, now I am ready to devour the previous 3!
PS…I the cover! The artwork captures the story perfectly.

This is the first book I read by this author, but I have added some of her books in my TBR.
This is the story of Tommy and Evelyn, that I gather from the start that are very well-known to the people who have read the first three books of the series. Although it wasn’t mandatory to have read them, at some points in the story I felt confused because I couldn’t understand who was who and who was with who. Plus, the dialogue was thick and conversational and at times I lost track of who was talking. This is not a bad thing, because I hate when dialogue is dry and robotic, but in my case, having not read the previous books and not knowing who the people around the main protagonists were and what they did in the past, didn’t help much with my understanding of the dynamics of this group of friends.
Anyway, the story starts when Tommy is recovering after an accident that almost made him give up his job as a firefighter. He tries to show he’s okay, but in reality he is not. Among all of the worry that he may not get back to his job, there’s a ray of light in the form of Evelyn. She comes every now and then as a volunteer in the hospital where Tommy is and she always goes to greet him while she believes he’s asleep. Fast-forward of a while later, Tommy has got back to work and he’s fine and one night he saves Evelyn from a fire and… bam! He falls for her.
Okay, now for those who have read the first three books of the series this could look normal and they could say “finally!” but to me it looked like the usual annoying insta-love that I don’t like much. I know that Tommy probably already liked Evelyn in the past, but then again, not having read the other books, I don’t know, and to me is pure and simple insta-love. It’s so fast that after he saves her, he seems resolved to want to marry her and begs her for a date. Then he says how he’s been celibate for her during that year… no. I don’t buy it.
This story had the great potential to be an enemies to lovers one, but it failed to do so when the author decided Tommy to be super whipped from the start. Maybe it’s because I like slow burn romances more, but this one felt so quick. Everything, every feeling, grew into something big super fast. Even Evelyn, who is a complex character because she’s not the usual contemporary romance gal, doesn’t make Tommy work more for his dates. She gives in rather quickly and falls for him in the span of a few days. You may argue that they already liked each other, and it’s true. So what? It still shouldn’t happen so fast. (I realized that I wrote several synonyms of “fast” in the last few lines, lol).
Anyway, I didn’t completely hate it but I didn’t love it either because of the reasons above. But I think I’ll still try other books by this author.
I’d say, if there’s one book you should read this year, you should make it a priority to make it this one.
The Fire by R.J. Prescott has left me feeling all the feels. This book was well-written, with characters as beautiful as the story.
There’s just too many things I loved in this book and I don’t think there’s one I didn’t liked or enjoyed.
First thing first; I loved the main characters here. Their relationship as it progresses had my heart melting in a puddle.
I loved how the author unraveled it, made it blossom and simply just let it flow freely, making theirs quite realistic and i inspirational at the same time. There’s nothing to compare to ehat the MCs had. They may not be a power couple for some but damn if theirs wasn’t powerful in a silent way. What these two have was strong and resilient and just plain beautiful.
There were a lot of laugh out loud moments courtesy of Tommy. He was the life in this book, I swear! He colored this book with his radiance and made the story come alive with everything that was him.
I love how he wooed the heroune, Evelyn, and everytime he woos her, I’m there cheering him and laughing with his crazy but swoony antics.
His kind was the best people to have around. He’s also tye jealous and possessive kind of hero. Not in the asshole way, no. But quite the type that eill make you fall head over heels in love while either shaking your head at his shenanigans or laughing your ass off. To top it apl, he’s just the type of an everyday hero you’d want to call yours, in real life or un fiction.
I also lovr Evelyn. She’s your typical shy and virgin heroine but make no mistake, she’s jot all that. I love how she flourished as a person, and as a woman in this hook. I love how she unravels, and blooms in the story. The girl is oure fucking gold. Tommy and her maybe different as night and day but together, they are beautiful to watch as one chase the other until they collide.
This is a must-read romance for me! I haven’t had the chance to read the firsts books in the series but the author has a way of telling a story in which you wouldn’t feel lost while reading it.

If you have read The Hurricane and the follow-ups, trust me you have been waiting just like me for Tommy’s story and it’s finally here. It was so worth the wait! But also grab some tissues ‘cuz at some scenes you’ll need it.
After being in a terrible work accident and coming back from a hard rehab, Tommy doesn’t want to take anything for granted and goes after the one that got away. When darkness was hitting him hard, Evelyn stood by his side although she thought he never knew. Knowing he’s a bit of a player, Evelyn doesn’t want anything to do with him. Although there’s a part of her that still feels a lot towards him, she doesn’t want her heart broken again. But Tommy will not give up without a fight and does everything he can to try to win her heart. With a looming threat over them and the gym, things get harder and they’ll have to fight withe everything they’ve got! Will Tommy be able to tear down her walls?…
This was a Sweet and beautiful story. Tommy is the clown and the anchor of his group, he is also a very dedicated friend and firefighter. Ev is a very good, Catholic girl who works as a librarian, but is being taken advantage of by her mother. These two had a great first meeting that quickly turned sour. There are several incidents that result in bodily harm for both the hero and heroine that puts many things in perspective and sheds light on their real character. I loved Tommy so much. He was so sweet and worked so hard for Ev to see him as a man she could trust and depend on. Ev grew a lot too. She learned how to be herself, not be a doormat for her mother, and accept Tommy’s past as well as his love. I loved the part about how to not let fear grow. It so true, but hard to put into practice. The end with Danny was heartwrenching and beautiful. It was great to see the guys and ladies from the previous books. Maybe there will be a second generation…..I hope so! Great story filled with love, family, and real life lessons.
