The #1 New York Times bestseller by David Baldacci now includes a never-before-seen chapter, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Finisher, and a special world guide — for e-readers only!
Vega Jane was always told no one could leave the town of Wormwood. She was told there was nothing outside but a forest filled with danger and death. And she always believed it — until the night she … it — until the night she saw Quentin Herms run away.
Vega knows Quentin didn’t just leave — he was chased. And he left behind a trail of clues that point to a dark conspiracy at the heart of Wormwood. To follow the clues will attract the attention of influential people willing to kill to keep their secrets. If Vega wants to stay safe, she just needs to keep her head down and her mouth shut. There’s only one problem — Vega Jane never walks away from a fight.
Master storyteller David Baldacci introduces an unforgettable heroine who must think fast, hit hard, and defy all odds to uncover the truth.

I was prepared to stop reading this book and set it aside forever after the first ten pages or so. But then I decided to give it another shot. And lo and behold I found it to be, for a fantasy story, really entertaining. The story is simple, and I won’t tell you more about it than those words. The characters are fantastic and created in a way which makes them, each for their own role in the story, wonderful. I am not a fantasy reader usually. But once I started past the first twenty pages I had trouble setting the book down. Finally I had to finish it in one last binge of reading. The beginning left me cold. The middle of the story drew my interest, connected me to the characters and made me read on. The ending was spectacular. I can hardly wait for the sequel, if this wonderful writer decides to create one.
Storyline a cross between Harry Potter and Hobbit. A young adult fantasy. Enjoyable to read.
This book is written for young people but I’m a senior citizen and I loved it. Had me hooked from the first chapter.
I LOVED this book it is my favorite book. I’ve read a lot of books and this was bifar the best. AND its good for all ages but I do recamende getting ur parents permition befor u read this if ur a kid. but overall its AMAZING!!!
Not as good as his adult thrillers, and seems to me a bit of knockoff of the Harry Potter books but still a decent story with enough action to keep the story moving along nicely.
Well. This was a surprise. I bought the ebook because it was by Baldacci without reading the blurb about it. This isn’t typical Baldacci fare. It’s more along the lines of Rowling, Tolkein, and M. knight Shamalan . I’m not a fan of the fantasy genre, but still wanted to read it to the end to see what happened to the 14 year old girl Baldacci was giving voice to. He could have done without so many ridiculously overdrawn monsters that are 65 feet tall and weigh 7,000 pounds, or have 250 heads, or one head and three bodies. It still would have been a good underdog story without all that. I won’t bother with any of the following stories he produces for the book series, but for a first time out writing for this style, he did ok, just because he’s a good writer.
couldn’t even get into it.
Not what I expected.
First of his books I ever read, loved every second.
don’t remember much about ity
Not what I expected from Baldacci, not my kind of book. I prefer his regular stuff.
The storyline and main characters surprised me having read all of David’s books.
Still, I enjoyed this book.
I bought this in spite of less than stellar reader reviews because I have really liked a number of Baldacci’s other books. Unfortunately, the reviews turned out to be right.
This was not anything like the blurb described. It’s about “Wugs”!!! Plot line and
story are nowhere close to believable
Not the best fantasy book I have read but it was entertaining.
Really interesting storyline.
Only book of D.Baldacci I do care for. I couldn’t finish it. Vega series have to be of your liking .
Enchanting story. Probably written for younger readers, but at 67 I really enjoyed it anyway!
Not what I expected from the author
This was a fantasy that I wanted to try reading from a change of the cozy mysteries and suspense mysteries. I like how the young girl worked hard, fought for truth and also the love of her dog (I am also a dog lover). The characters also remind me of how some people are in the real world.
