Dragon mentors, magical creatures, and a young girl looking for adventure: Harry Potter meets Eragon.“A remarkable dragon story for YA and teens. If you enjoy the Eragon book series by Christopher Paolini, you love this series!!” ★★★★★When the dragon Jaax receives word that a human infant has been found in the province of Oescienne, he doesn’t dare believe it. Humans have been extinct for … extinct for centuries, trapped by a terrible curse and left to live out their existence in the form of dragons. Despite his doubts, however, Jaax assumes responsibility for the baby girl only to discover that what he has been seeking for so many years has finally been found.
Jahrra knows all about the legends and sagas of Oescienne, but never in her wildest dreams would she believe that she played a part in one of them. She is far too busy dodging the bullies at school and seeking out new adventures with her friends to worry about what secrets her dragon mentor might be keeping from her, or that her every move is being watched by something living in the forest surrounding her home.
But the secrets run deep, and as Jahrra fights to earn her place in this extraordinary world, she will begin to unravel the truth of it all: that she isn’t as safe as she thought she was, that danger lurks around every corner, and that her role in this unfurling tale is far more significant than she could possibly imagine.

a bit heavy at the start. It gets better as you go along. No spoilers….
Curiosity got me started in the book and kept me reading. In this first book I didn’t get a lot of answers, but the world she built was engaging. I kept turning the pages and before I knew it, I was ready for the next book in the series.
Want to read the rest of the series.
fast paced – wonderfully written. Characters that were witty. Made for great escape reading
Imaginative
I am currently enjoying this book.
Great book! It took me a while to get in to the book but once it took off I couldn’t put it down. I bought the whole series! Great characters….Dragons, mages, mystics and more. Strong and interesting characters. The author builds great relationships between the main character and others. They are so good that you will cheer even the smaller characters on.
Entertaining!
Let me start by saying that I read a lot of books. That being said, I feel that this book was excessively long. The story line was fine, but there were so many details and parts that were added seemingly solely to add length as they did not progress the story. I have only ever “quit” a book a couple of times and I was tempted to several times with this book. I was relieved when I turned the last page. The characters and storyline did not leave me wanting more. I would like to know how the story finishes seeing as this book did not wrap it up, but this drawn out book did not interest me in the next. If this book was cleaned of the superfluous fluff they story would be much more engaging and desirable to continue.
One of the things that I love about a good fantasy book is the world building. It takes a lot to build a world in a way the reader can imagine and move along the paces with the characters. When it comes to this book, I saw that there were 4 books in the series, so I knew a lot of this first book would be more backstory and world building before we most likely would get to the “juicy” bits of the story. However, there can be too much description and can eventually get to the point where a reader may get bored or start skimming over these parts in the book. Sadly, with this book I did skim a lot over many descriptive parts, which lets be honest, seemed to make up more than half of the book.
I mean, once you’ve already described the orchid the main character lives at, you really shouldn’t go back constantly and give more description just using different words making it seem like you went searching through a thesaurus.
Now for the actual story.
The premise is a very good idea! In this world lives dragons, elves, magic, and it’s all coming to rely on the shoulders of one little human girl.
Once long ago human ruled Oescienne and lived among the dragons and elves. However, centuries before a god called Ciarrohn had rebelled against his family and turned their own creations (elves and other races) against them to fight and try to rise to power. But once he was defeated he didn’t lie dormant for long and eventually the rise of the Crimson King occurred and he cast a spell against the last of the human race turning them into the Tanaan dragon race.
Now, the prophecy that is constantly referenced in this story is vague and I wish we could’ve been told the entire prophecy. I’m not quite sure how Jahrra (the human girl) is suppose to defeat the Crimson King and restore peace to the world, but hopefully as we read more into the series the prophecy will be more in depth and explain more.
The Finding follows along Jahrra’s life from birth until about 12 years of age. She learns a lot about the world with her training from her master dragon and learns about the little things from her “parents”. There also comes a time when Jaxx, the dragon who finds her, returns back to her life to begin her training to prepare her for a time in her life that is still a mystery to Jahrra.
I REALY COULDN’T GET INTO THIS BOOK.
