A tremendously fun independent urban fantasy novel. I think Megan Mackie does a great job creating the characters of Rune, the Saints, and her quirky bar’s employees. This is the story of a woman living in a magical and cyberpunk mixed world trying to flee her past life as an abused housewife. Then she becomes a “finder” of lost items and people with her small magical talent. I found it incredibly entertaining.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil: A Paranormal Thriller (The Lucky Devil series Book 1)

5 out of 5 stars
The story The Finder of the Lucky Devil: A Paranormal Thriller (The Lucky Devil series Book 1) by Megan Mackie is a paranormal/fantasy book. This is a story that has plenty of action, adventure, mystery, and magic. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is the story of Rune Leveau. She is a woman who has many problems. Another has just been added to her list when a man named St. Benedict asks her to find someone for him. The situation becomes further complicated when he tells her who he is trying to find. She tells him that she can’t help him. He will not take no for an answer. This is a journey that has plenty of danger for both Rune and St. Benedict. Revelations and secrets are told which only open up the door to more questions. There are also others in this story who have their own agenda and are only adding to Rune’s problems. They are manipulative and will do anything to make sure their plans succeed. Will Rune give in and lead St. Benedict to who he is searching for? There is danger around every corner. Read this story to find out if these two survive. There are many characters that play a part in this story and that I loved reading about them. Some of them are friendly and helpful to the main characters, some are working against them, and others had me wondering what side they were really on. This is a wonderful story that I had a hard time putting down until I had read the final page. It is the first book that I have read by the author and the first story in a series. Attention to details in the book and the wonderful characters are just two of the reasons that this is a story I would recommend reading. I can’t wait to read what happens next in the series.
I read this as an audiobook and found it enjoyable overall. This is my first adult urban fantasy/cyberpunk read, and I liked the combination between magic and technology. The strongest point of this novel is its world building. There’s so many details and lore, from the collapse of the fairy court to the house of the lucky devil himself. The magic system and concept of second sight was also exciting, and I appreciated that they had a definite class system describing the level of magic a person could use.
However, this book wasn’t without its faults. Megan Mackie and Frank Sjodin did a great job narrating, but I didn’t agree with how they chose to divvy up the reading parts. I would have preferred if Megan Mackie read everything, and Frank Sjodin only read St. Benedict’s lines and chapters. Sometimes they would go by thoughts or narration and it sounded off. I also disagreed with some of Mackie’s writing choices. Some details, paragraphs and conversation could have been trimmed for the sake of pacing. For example, the beginning of the book could have introduced the plot point or inciting incident between Rune and St. Benedict faster. They didn’t need to flirt beforehand and we didn’t have to read about the detestable bridal shower.
The characterizations were also very hit or miss. I didn’t care for St. Benedict for most of the book, but I loved Rune, Allie the girl dog and Taki the mermaid. The title of the book was also a cute play on words. When I first picked up The Finder of the Luck Devil, I thought it was about a girl looking for a hot guy, a “lucky devil”, but it was literally Rune using her magical talent as a finder and her title being the heir of the Magdalene and the owner of The Lucky Devil bar.
This was the first book I read by this author, and I found myself at first not sure I was really going to like this book at all. I think it’s because this author writes differently than most, and it took me a while to get the “hang” of it which in no way is a bad thing. Once I did, I was fully invested in the book. This author writes a rich, complex world with interesting characters in a way that makes the reader see everything. The detail is amazing, and I actually jumped right into the next book without even a second thought. I had to stop because I needed to finish another book, and boy was I angry about that. LOL! This author is definitely one to pick up if you like urban fantasy, and I look forward to finishing the second one so I can read the third one. LOL! Recommend! I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie was such a delightful story. I loved this book. This book had me sucked in at the very first few pages. And then it was just a terrific read all the way through. It was exciting, it was adventurous, it was action packed. Go with Rune on this amazing adventure and discover who this mysterious man, St. Benedict is. What is his place in this story. It’s a well written story, it has wonderful characters, and the world that Maggie has built is easily visualized. Plenty of twists and turns here. It’s just a romping good story. If you like fantasy with a little mystery mixed in, you will really like this book. It’s left a little bit open ended which makes me think we will be seeing more of Rune and St. Benedict and I can’t wait.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil is the first book in the Lucky Devil series.
I don’t know what I expected when I chose to read this book, but it wasn’t this…and I mean that in a good way. This book is an excellent read!!!! I loved the unusual mix of characters and the unique style of world building. The mix of supernatural elements with technological enhancements gives the book an edgy feel.
One of my favorite characters is Taki. I like the way the author took the time to think through how a business would be set up for a merperson to be able to operate it on land.
This book is definitely in the must read and re-readable categories. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series!
The Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie is the first book in the Lucky Devil Series. If you like fantasy, magical, action, humor and suspense this is the book for you. Rune Leveau is one of the main characters. You will think you know how this book ends but you don’t. Rune has been having a lot of Problems when Saint Benedict adds one more to her list. St Benedict asks Rune to find someone. Rune has a secret of her own. Will her secret come out?? Megan
Mackie writes very detailed books. I can’t wait to

The Finder Of The Lucky Devil. By Megan Mackie. The only thing more dangerous than using your magic to help a cybernetic spy find a missing criminal, is being the criminal he’s looking for…
Luna (Anna) is hiding in plain sight, after her and her husband were caught for embezzlement. Luna inherited a magical bar from her late Aunt and she hides her powers under the ruse that all spells are her late aunts doing. Then along come St Benedict and her whole world turns upside down. I truly enjoyed this story it captivated me from the beginning, such a unique tale that will have you guessing throughout. I would highly recommend.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie is an absolute masterpiece. I have no idea where to start! From beginning to end Megan had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to keep reading! The Finder of the Lucky Devil (Lucky Devil #1) by Megan Mackie was an interesting 5 star read.
This is a book that is out of the realm of what I typically read but I really enjoyed it.
We start with an interesting prologue and then we jump ahead six years later to Rune owning a bar in Chicago, The Lucky Devil’s. Rune inherited the bar from her aunt. Rune has a secret that she has to keep, but owning the bar is making it difficult for her to keep a low profile.
When Saint comes into the bar wanting to hire Rune to use her special skills to find someone, there’s a little problem. The person he needs to find is actually right in front of him but doesn’t know it. Needing the money for the mortgage, will Rune take the Job?
Overall I really enjoyed this read, it is a very interesting world that pulls you right in. We meet several different characters, trolls, vampires, fairies and so much more. We get action and some twists that add a great element to the story. I wasn’t sure about Saint at first but he quickly grew on me, I loved Rune from the beginning. Megan Mackie does a great job of pulling you in with her writing. I look forward to reading more from her. 1-click and get started today.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie. Ok I’m trying really hard to find the words to do this book justice in my review of it. From the very first page I knew I was in for an incredible adventure and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. This story pulled me in right away and I was so deeply in the story I lost track of all time and real life which I loved! Rune is a character I won’t be forgetting anytime soon, the entire story is so unique and different from my usual reads and I loved every minute of it. This story had a fast paced storyline but not rushed, lots going on but not in a confusing was. It was all well written and well balanced. Characters are complex and relatable, they truly pull you into their story and you won’t want to leave. Can’t wait to see where the author takes readers next. Five stars all the way and highly recommended!
This story was so interesting that I found myself unable to put it down. It was a journey of growth for the main character Rune mostly but also for the secondary main character St. Benedict as well. There are several twists and turns in the story by Megan Mackie that made this a very interesting read. I highly recommend this story for anyone who is interested in fantasy novels that have a bit of a twist. I look forward to future novels by Megan Mackie as she is a great writer and builds a world that is exciting and interesting.
This is an amazing adventure story involving fantasy and magic and technology.
We meet Rune who runs the Lucky Devil bar after her aunt passes away. Things aren’t great but they are about to get worse for her.
Because Rune isnt who she seems to be. She has a past that she has tired so hard to escape but a meeting with someone who wants her to use her Finder skills means she has to rake over the past and could risk exposing her for the person she is.
Can she find enough information that she needs to without revealing herself or is it time that her whole life unravels and falls apart
Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie
4 Stars!!!!
This is the first book from this author that I have read and I must say I was really hooked. I really found the book unique. The author had a way to draw in the reader to the story and at the same time bring the characters to life. I was so eager to see how things would turn out I couldn’t put the book down.
I really felt drawn to Rune. The way that the author uses her past and it influences things in her present really made her very personable. I love supernatural type books and this one definitely ticks all the boxes. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
Rune Leveau is approached by a charming, yet dangerous, cybernetically-altered spy, St. Benedict. His request is very simple, use her magic talent to help him find an elusive criminal named Anna Materson.
The only thing that is more dangerous than using her magic to help finding this criminal, is a secret that she needs to keep from St Benedict. That secret is, that she IS Anna Materson. Over the past six years, he has searched for the Materson files, a computer programme, which is rumoured to cast magic spells. This programme could change the world, and his last hope is the finder of the Lucky Devil, but the finder is proving difficult, but he is not going to take no for an answer.
The finder of the lucky devil is a bar that holds a secret and with a correct coin and a little message, and a desire can be granted.
Rune is the owner of this bar, which she inherited it from her Aunt, but she is struggling to keep up with the payments. As her Aunt offered special services and Rune is trying to keep a low profile due to the secret she is hiding.
I loved this book and a total brilliant world of fantasy with mermaids, fairies, foes, trolls and little people. It is also very mysterious. It has everything to offer, action, magical, paranormal and mystery. The characters are great and the author has done a great job of bringing them all together. Really enjoyable and would recommended.

The Finder of the Lucky Devil by Megan Mackie
I give this urban paranormal fantasy kind of dystopian story 3 stars. The story was an unexpected mix of magic and technology that also reminded me of an old detective and crime story. There was so much going on that I did find myself getting a little lost as the story added more characters, but the characters were very cool. There were wizards, fairies, snake-like spies, and even a mermaid dog groomer. The author described their world in such detail that I could totally visualize all these vivid colors like shown in the series Altered Carbon. The author can really paint a picture so I spent a lot of time wondering what was going to happen next. It didn’t end exactly how I thought it would’ve, but there are more books in the series so I’m sure anything can happen. It’s a unique and unexpected story for sure.
This is a first time author for me, and it’s been awhile since I’ve read a dystopian type book. I wasn’t exactly sure if I was going to like it, then I started reading. I couldn’t put it down. I loved this book, and I absolutely can’t wait to read the next one.
This story is about Rune Leveau and St Benedict. I loved the magic and the different characters in the book. As the synopsis says “Set in an alternate Chicago, where technology and magic are in competition with each other, this fast-paced cat-and-mouse chase makes The Finder of the Lucky Devil a welcome addition to your urban fantasy/cyberpunk library.” I couldn’t agree more. Such a great read.
The mystery, adventure, magic, and romance had me at page 1.
Rune owns a bar, a very different type of bar with very different clientele. The lucky Devil doesn’t only offer drinks, but also the opportunity to help you find what you may have lost….for a price of course. Rune was left the bar by her magical Aunt, but is struggling to keep up the mortgage repayments, but then an opportunity offers itself and Rune sees her chance to pay her debts.
This was completely different to anything I have read before. It was very fast paced, which left me a little lost to start with, but I soon caught up and found it was fun, exciting and a really good start to a series.
The Finder of the Lucky Devil sucked me in right away with the prologue. It was interesting. It was mysterious. It was heartbreaking. It was the perfect start!
Unfortunately, I found myself lost throughout the rest of the story. There was so much going on that it was hard for me to keep up. I loved the inclusion of all the mythical creatures and the concept of magic. I just felt like the story line jumped around quite a bit. The ending was left open, so I am curious how the story continues.
The Finder if the Lucky Devil ( Lucky Devil #1) by Megan Mackie. This is a new to me author. Paranormal and fantasy are usually not in my genre to read but I absolutely enjoyed this book. The way that the author writes, makes you actually feel like you are right in the story.
This book is full of mystery, magic and plenty of action. I was a little worried about stepping out of my comfort zone but I am so glad that I did.
