When Gia Montgomery’s boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she decides to do the unthinkable…convince the cute guy waiting to pick up his sister to pretend to be her boyfriend for the night. The task is simple: two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies. The problem is that days after prom, she can’t stop thinking about her fill-in boyfriend. But can Gia turn … can Gia turn her fake boyfriend into a real one without exposing her lie and possibly destroying her friendships and her newfound relationship?
Smartly observed and wonderfully romantic, Kasie West’s talent shines in this tale of one girl’s unexpected quest to find love…and possibly herself.

Another great contemporary love story from Kasie West! This is one of the best I’ve read by her so far, with a surprising amount of depth and just a wonderful cast of characters.
It was really funny.
I’ve been on a Kasie West audiobook binge-fest lately and The Fill-in Boyfriend is tied with On the Fence for my favorite so far. The Fill-In-Bradley and Gia are so adorable! This book had me giggling to myself in my office and trying desperately not to laugh out loud and make my coworkers think I’m weird. The narration was done perfectly and portrayed every emotion Fill-In-Bradley and Gia felt. I think Beck was my favorite character with her snark and independent attitude. When her and Gia were exercising their demons, I seriously about died. The Fill-In Boyfriend is an honest feel good romance that is good for almost any age!
Can I say how much I love this book? It was my second Kasie West book and it blew my mind! I wasn’t explicating something so entertaining and West is on my auto-buy list because her books are all just so easy to read and immerses the reader into the story. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
What a great book! There was a lot of heart. I liked that the characters changed. They had baggage, and they weren’t perfect, but they forgive each other. There was a lot of change and self-realization. I learned a lot from this book!
Amazing
This book reminded me of my own life and experiences, it was very realatible and made me cry a few times
Good audiobook

Now I see what all the hype is about. I loved every moment of this book! I read this in a single sitting. I just could not put it down! This is my second Kasie West book and she certainly has a way of making her readers latch on to the stories. There is a lightness in the books, but they are also full of emotion and so far always contain a moral of sorts.
The main moral in this book is trust. It comes up repeatedly in this book in many different forms. In this book, we experience trust and complications from a lack of trust in friendships, romantic relationships, and family. But trust isn’t the only issue that is explored in this book. There really are a myriad of topics that are explored in this book. Being blind to friendships and to oneself, both in how you treat other people and how you represent yourself to others. Going along with your friends and not questioning if they are right or wrong. A sense of discovering oneself. A lot of feeling like an outsider, even among family and friends. Betrayal comes up for both main characters as well.
I loved all of the characters in this book! The main characters and the side characters were so great! I loved Gia’s character development. She goes through such a personal transformation in this book and it is just so heartwarming. I loved Hayden’s characters. He was such a darling. I wish that I could wrap him up and take him home with me. He was the perfect book boyfriend. I also loved Bec’s character a lot. I loved how she and Gia became close after starting things out so roughly. The other side characters were very convincing and written into the story very well.
The overall plot of this story is entirely entertaining. There really is so much drama, but the main characters deal with the hard-knocks that life delivers them gracefully. And through all of the drama, the morals in the story get to really shine.
I absolutely loved the romance. It was adorable, riveting, and entirely delightful! I love how Gia and Hayden got to know each other and the slow-burn romance was killer in this. Hayden is pretty much perfect. He is a gentleman, loyal, supportive, absolutely adorable, and he has a great heart. I liked that he and Gia brought out the best in each other and were there to support one another in their relationship woes and Gia’s family issues. I liked how being around Hayden made Gia really come out of her shell and take the blinders off on her life. She was able to look around and see things and people for what they really were and she was able to grow as a person. And there is no denying that Hayden and Gia had the most adorable chemistry. I don’t know how many times you can say the word “adorable” in a book review, but I am betting that I am pushing a threshold right about now.
Overall, this was, yes, and adorable read filled with lots of characters growth, a romance that will melt your heart, and a story that will keep you reading until the last page.
A delightful read. I hope there’s a sequel!
It shows an unexpected ending while still giving her a happily ever after, I loved it!
An adorable read!
Can the heroine turn her fake boyfriend into a real one without exposing her lie and possibly destroying her friendships and her newfound relationship?
An adorable, meaningful read. Loved the story and how the heroine’s character developed and evolved. She grew in strength and realised her faults and became a better person. Bravo!
The writing was incredible – so touching and adorable. New friendships were formed and loved seeing and experiencing it for myself!
The romance was so adorable and took time to evolve and grow into something beautiful despite a few hiccups.
Full of finding yourself, development, family, friends, trust and love.
Perfect for readers of contemporary romances.
So So Good I love this book
The Fill-In Boyfriend is the first book by this author I have read. My daughter had read another book by Kasie West and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would give this one a try. I did like it, a very cute story.
I think there is a lesson to learn from this book about staying honest and true to yourself, no matter what other people may say or think. Also, in just not letting what other people think dictate our lives. Too much pressure is put on young and old alike to behave a certain way.
There is also much to learn about parenting, if you’re a parent like I am. I definitely want to be like Hayden and Beck’s mother instead of like Gia and Drew’s parents. I want to be someone who my kids can feel comfortable opening up to and not hiding how they feel about things, even if they think I will think it’s silly.
This book sort of redeemed Kasie West for me. I kind of liked this book. I didn’t love it, it had some problems that I really wasn’t a fan of. But, I did enjoy this book more than I enjoyed The Distance Between Us.
This did introduce me to a trope that I kind of love. The “fake relationship”. I’m pretty sure I haven’t read a book with this trope before. Although, I feel I would like this better in an adult book.
The Fill-In Boyfriend follows Gia who gets dumped in the parking lot right before prom. So, just to prove to her friends that her long distance boyfriend Bradley was indeed real, she found some random dude and asked him to pretend to be Bradley. I don’t see why she couldn’t just tell her friends that she got dumped. Why lie?
Gia isn’t the best person. I really wish that she was written better. She’s self centered and she doesn’t really care about anything other than being popular. She really just seems to think she’s some kind of royalty. She doesn’t know anyone else that isn’t in her circle of friends. Ugh, the more I write this review, the more I realize that I have so many problems with it.
I started with a rating of 3.75 and I’m bringing it down to a 2.
Well, Gia and “fake Bradley” go to prom and do their pretend thing. That she basically makes him do. She was pretty rude to him and so I don’t know why he even agreed to do this for her.
I don’t even want to write this review anymore because I feel like I’m going to continue to pick at everything in this book. Sigh.
2/5 Stars
It was so good. I normally take months to read one book I read this one in 3 days! I love this book.
If you’re in a reading slump I recommend you read this book. It’s lighthearted and sweet. It’s such a cute story and it makes you just want to find more books just like it to fill the void it creates when you finish reading it.
I love these books. I have almost read all of her books.
While I couldn’t personally relate to the struggle of having a dance date walk out on me right before, I found the story as a whole to be relatively believable. The one thing I will say, though, is that there is an inevitable love story happening here and there really is no getting around that. If you are looking for a fast read with YA romance, I would definitely recommend this book. Even though it’s really not on my list of favorites, it is one that I have picked up multiple times to reread–it’s much better in comparison to all of my many other options.
