I’ve lived half of my life on each side of the border. I know what greatness women are capable of and how amazing men can be. For those Nmen who think I can’t be a police officer because I’m a “fragile female,” I have only one thing to say; watch me!Raven is a force of nature who won’t take no for an answer. She uses her humor and feistiness to blaze through every obstacle, and right now the … obstacle, and right now the biggest one is her rigid boss Leo Da Vinci.
Leo wants her to stay safe in an office categorizing unsolved cases, but Raven is longing for action. That’s why when one case turns out to be the unsolved murder case of Dina, the ruler’s sister who died when she was fifteen, Raven sets out to solve the mystery and bring the murderer to justice. Little does she know that coming face to face with the troubled past of the Northlands might set off an unwanted avalanche of events and endanger the lives of herself and the people she loves.
The Fighter is the ninth out of ten books in the Men of the North series. From the beginning of this series, readers have been hooked on the amazing world-building and the clash between two societies with opposing values.
If you love a mix of humor and romance with a drizzle of steamy sex then this series is a safe choice.

Changes for Nmen have been numerous with the opening of the border and Pearl’s influence. That is very evident with Raven and her joining the police department as the first woman officer.A dream come true for her but it is definitely not an easy battle by any means. Her skill and cunning personality will take her far, doesn’t hurt that she’s been trained by the best. Leo doesn’t want this duty. How can he work with her when all he does is dream of more. Well you know Raven isn’t the sit back and do nothing type so when she comes across something that involves her friends the fall out may be more than she realizes. This book in the series combines their past and impacts their future. Not just for what can happen between her and Leo but for the impact of her actions. I love how strong and independent Raven is even when things go south. Ready to stand firm on her beliefs and her choices. She makes some choices and finds someone who will let her be who she is.
In this 9th book of the Men of the North series, Peer showcases her abundance of talent by blending the elements of romance in a futuristic world with thrilling, nail-biting suspense in a multi-layered, captivating story line that keeps your brain guessing and your heart fluttering.
This was absolutely my favorite book of the series, hands down!!! I loved Raven’s determination and independent spirit. I adored Leo’s quiet strength and protective nature. And, their first, smolderingly-hot, intimate encounter was spiced with just enough tipsy curiosity and innocent seduction as to leave you (and them) yearning for a taste for more! Well, that is, until Leo’s big mouth sours the moment… Leaving Raven to wonder if she can get past the unspoken meaning she thinks she detects in what he thoughtlessly said.
But, what really elevated this book, for me, was the mystery surrounding the true cause of Dina’s death. Dina is Khan and Magni’s sister of whom no one ever speaks about. Raven’s pursuit of what really happened and who could be responsible for her possible murder, drew me in and kept me spellbound right up until the shocking twist of the truth was revealed.
I am now eager and excited for Peer to unveil the last book in this series. But, I am also saddened that there is only one book remaining. I feel like these characters have become friends that have allowed me to be a part of their lives, and I will miss them when they are gone.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
While I wasn’t entirely pleased with the story line *Cough* Mangi ( because I’m a fan of his), it was thought out and well played. Offering the perfect amount of shock value to throw you off while reminding us that Peer is capable of throwing anything at us. So don’t get too Comfortable. I wish I could say more but I fear if I keep going I will spill the beans on this remarkable read.
Raven is strong, funny and an exceptional fighter trained by the best and she is determined to be a pioneer by being the first female police officer in the male dominated Northlands. But she is having a hard time being accepted and Leo, her mentor and boss, is doing everything to keep her safe and doing menial work, until a cold case comes across her desk and she is determined to proof she can be a police officer by solving this case. In the course of trying to solve this case, Raven discovers devastating family secrets, betrayal, blackmail, murder, she has to fight for her life and then something happens that changes lives. Once again Elin Peer has created an exceptional story-line with strong characters and the writing is so realistic I feel what the characters are feeling. I will recommend not just The Fighter, but the whole series as a must read!
The Men of the North is my all-time favorite series. The whole premise of a world divided into men on one side, women on another provides so many laugh out loud moments and perfect opportunities for love. These are the only books that my husband has ever been interested in us sharing.
I’ve actually told friends about these. They’re so much fun. The Fighter is one of the best. If you haven’t read them, you’re in for a treat. The Protector is the first one and it was a hoot.
Do yourself a favor and dive right in!
This is book 9 in this series.
Just like the rest of the series I
found it hard to put down. as the relationship
between Raven and Leo became clear.
This one if full of drama action mystery and steam.
I would definitely recommend reading this book and the
hole series.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Received ARC copy for my honest review. Elin Peer continues to amaze me, her stories of the Northlands get better and better!
Remember Raven, she was one of the first children at the integrated school between the Northlands and the Motherlands. Having lived on both sides of the border, Raven is rather unique, she knows that women can do jobs that the Northlanders think are uniquely male. The Ruler Khan gives her permission to try out for the police academy. She knew she was in for a rough ride being the first female recruit. During her first internship, her mentor tucks her away in the basement filing cold cases hopefully keeping her out of danger. Raven finds a cold case that was ruled as a suicide but she is positive it was murder. Here is her story, her findings and her finding the love of her life. Enjoy!
Raven wants to be the first policewoman in the Northlands. Leo is the inspector who mentors Raven. There is a 30 year old mystery to solve of Dina, Khan and Magni’s sister. The Men of the North is a unique and fascinating world that I have enjoyed since book one. Raven and Leo have a great love story and there is sadness at the end involving Magni but I am sure things will work out. I received this ARC and voluntarily left a review.
Raven is a fighter, a true pioneer, always moving forward.
She’s adventurous and over comes all obstacles by being smart, determined.
She’s dauntless.
As the first female police officer in the North, she has been facing an uphill battle no one wanted her to win or believed she could. Now, as an officer, she’s regulated to the filing basement, until a past death and mystery catches her attention.
Leo Da Vinci has had a jones for Raven since he met her a year ago, but settled on pursuing Mila, who is her opposite in every way. They are all working on a tournament for Mila, and Leo doesn’t want Raven to unravel the secrets that the leader of the North is keeping.
Funny, heartfelt, smart, where fighting is 4play, no one captures the battles between men and women and all its minute complexities better than Elin Peer and The Fighter is another standout in her series.
I loved the humor between Raven and Leo and their battle of wits.
Highly recommend.
I am trying so hard not to be angry with Elin Peer for this book. It is a wonderfully written book, but oh so emotional. This is book 9 of 10 and at one point during reading an especially emotional chapter I had to put my kindle down and discuss it with my sister…my sister who has not read this series and so before I could share this extremely upsetting information, I had to bring her up to speed with the series. Then she understood my tears. It’s been over a week since I finished reading the book, but I just couldn’t bring myself to write the review yet. If I think too much (even now a good week later), I cry again. Life can just be unfair sometimes. Yes, I know it is all fictional, but Elin has a way of bringing her characters to life. It seems with each new book she takes it up a notch. I’m looking forward to the final book, but dreading it at the same time. I know I am going to hate saying goodbye.
A great couple.I love the action and banter between Raven and Leo. With the action and adventure to find their way makes this a great addition to all the other books! The storyline as always fantastic and the characters were outstanding! cant wait for more! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A woman on a mission to become the first woman police officer in this male dominated land and the man who has feelings for her but is torn between what she wants and orders from his leader.
Strong characters that ignite passions of many kinds in each other that inspire growth in them both! Leo’s feelings get deeper the more he gets to know Raven and the more he admires her, there is just that pesky “touch a woman and you die rule”……
Determined to be her own woman Raven opens up a cold case that is full of mystery, intrigue and has proven fatal in the past. Stirring up the past will change everything, people, perceptions, possibly the future, answer questions, create more, change relationship dynamics and for one it will cost them almost everything, it may even topple goverments.
Be prepared to cheer, yell, laugh, cry and fall in even more love with these characters and their world.
Please make the next book so long it never ends…..
Or you could write a series on their children, the next generation
I loved Raven when she was first introduced. She is def a fighter.
This book was a page turner and will keep you up all night just to finish it.
Elin Peer you have done it again. I am waiting anxiously for book 10. It will be a bitter sweet read though. I am sad this series is coming to an end but looking forward to what will come next.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced readers copy of this book. If you’ve been following “Men of the North”, then you know who Raven and Leo are. We’ve known Raven almost her entire life. Leo as well. While the rest of us have read and mentally watched from the side lines, these two would be perfect together if they didn’t get on each other’s nerves so bad. Elin Peer has a unique way of telling a story that keeps her readers mesmerized and thrilled. Her characters are always relatable to the reader or someone the reader knows, that’s why we feel like we know them personally. With each book the telling only gets better and better with “The Fighter” becoming the best of the series so far. Truly you’re doing yourself a dis-service if you haven’t started on what is an epic series and now a phenominal new book.
This series just gets better with each book! Leo and Raven’s love story was the absolute best. But so much else is developing in the Northland.
Quote: Pearl asked. ‘Who in here thinks that Khan could win a democratic election?’ Magni groaned. ‘I can’t believe we’re even discussing this. Are we talking before or after revealing the truth?’
You’ll be laughing through your tears at this point. Strong men (not strong just physically) make strong ruling families, but strong enough to risk their position of power? You have to read this book to see all this family has suffered and are willing to suffer more for the love of serving their beloved country! You have to read to find out the horrible and tragic truths Raven uncovers that lead the Ruler to decide to attempt becoming the elected President!
One more hit with this ninth installment in the North men series.
It was full of so many things, like the insight done about Khan and Magni’s family past which was heartbreaking, plus the events occurring during Raven’s investigation were painful, but Mrs Peer was able as usual to mix hurtful times with witty and sweet ones.
While in The Dancer, the pain and hurt exchanges were between Willow and Solo, and it was only between them, with no influence outside them; here we get a new light from the past and all the dramas that ensued because of it and that everything can now change. This book is the new cornerstone of this series, introducing the next and also last one as a turning point for the world of the northmen.
I loved both Raven and Leo, I saw Raven growing up and becoming this fearless and generous young woman who wants only prove that women are not always fragile creatures to protect and keep behind wall or in cage, that some can be as resourceful and determined as any man. At time, her obsession at solving the ruler’s sister’s case was upsetting when she came to open hidden wounds and ugly secrets and didn’t see the danger of them being known. But then she did it with all the very best intentions, wanting to give closure to her friend’s family.
After, I was sometime wondering if she really grew up In the northlands as she toyed with Leo’s feelings when she should have known how sentiments are a sensible topic for the Nmen. They are often the first to fall in love then to get hurt, when the women need more time to understand what they feel and accept it with all its consequences.
Leo behind his tough exterior is a big teddy bear like most of his fellow countrymen. He was attracted by Raven from their first encounter, but she confuses him, plus having the responsibility for her security put him half-assed, plus how can he make a move when she sends him mixed messages.
But I do like the most is that Elin Peer gives voices to her characters. They make mistakes, say things not the right way but they try to communicate and by this are able to sort out what they really expect from the other and what they feel.
The romance gets it HEA here, but with the background plot moving a lot and the appearance of many recurring characters, any new reader will better enjoy this book if read after the others as it is a pivotal book.
Finally Raven meets her match!! And Leo was just perfect. This is one of the best series that I’ve read. I enjoyed the action and mystery in this story. The author has built an intriguing world and the interactions between all the characters continues to draw the reader further in. From start to finish this book had me engaged. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Exciting, Page turner as well as a Romantic painful suspense. This is definitely an exciting story of Raven and Leo. Raven is every bit as determined to become a police officer as she has ever been and she is attending the Academy and she out smarts her commanding officer who is very unhappy that she seems to have disappeared. When she is excepted and arrives at the police stations she is disappointed that she is dropped in the basement to work while Leo and the other recruits or going out into the field. Leo and Raven have been dancing around each other since they met when he came to Gray Manor last year, she seems to think that he really wants to fight in the Tournament for Mila but he as other ideas. Leo wants her to be able to learn the job like the others but Magni made him swear to keep her safe from danger, Raven is hopping mad until she runs across an old case and decides that she is going to investigate on her own because she is sure with a little help from her best friend Mila she can solve it. But unfortunately it didn’t seem to work out as she she thought it would and Leo steps in and tries to make her understand that lives are at stake but Raven has a mind of her own and she gets Laura to go with her to checkout some information without an escort and they run into some trouble, but the second time they go out they still go without an escort again only this time the situation is very, very dangerous especially for Leo and Magni. There are several storylines that are going to leave you happy, mad and sad at the same time.
I have to give this one 10*’s, Loved it.
Elin did a fabulous job I could continue this series for as long as she can come up with characters. Thanks Elin keep writing these wonderful books for us.
I was given a copy an Advance Reader Copy by the author without obligation. I am providing an honest review.
This is another captivating, entertaining and well written instalment of the Men of the North series. I very much enjoyed Raven and Leo’s story, though there is so much more to this story than just them. Be prepared for some real shocks along the way, and one heck of a build up to the final book, The Pacifist.
The push and pull between Raven and Leo was very nicely portrayed, it wasn’t too angsty or over the top, but had just enough edge to hold my interest. The first person POV allows you to really know, understand and connect to both main characters, it also helped me to believe in their feelings and relationship. Whilst the book is written from both Leo and Raven’s point of view, this felt very much more than just their story. At times it did feel as though the romance was almost a side story in this, there was so much else happening, however I still was very much invested in this couple and their HEA.
Elin Peer writes really amazing books, every single one holds my attention from start to finish. They all have characters who feel real and whom you want to be friends with. She is also pretty darn amazing at world building. She sets the bar so high, that whilst this perhaps isn’t one of my favourites by her, it still stands head and shoulders above the vast majority of what I’ve read in the last few months. This is a book I would gladly read again and again, and also happily recommend to friends, family and anyone who’ll listen!
Raven’s tired of being behind a desk and wants to go out into the field to prove herself as a police officer out in the field. Leo only wants to protect her but oh this feisty, determined and sometimes obstinate woman sees things differently. Get ready for a story that will have you cheering for Raven as she works and makes waves in a male dominated workforce that will truly inspires. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
