Mickey Haller has fallen on tough times. He expands his business into foreclosure defense, only to see one of his clients accused of killing the banker she blames for trying to take away her home. Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market … dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too–and he’s certain he’s on the right trail.
Despite the danger and uncertainty, Haller mounts the best defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the verdict is in. Connelly proves again why he “may very well be the best novelist working in the United States today” (San Francisco Chronicle).

If I’m ever charged with murder, I’ll hire Michael Connelly to defend me. Yes, I know he’s not a lawyer, but anyone who could write Mickey Haller’s stories (“The Lincoln Lawyer” et al) with such absolute persuasiveness, attention to detail, and courtroom verisimilitude can get me off the hook. “The Fifth Witness” is practically a primer on how to …
The Fifth Witness is the fourth book in Michael Connelly’s Mickey Haller, Lincoln Lawyer series. It’s a little different but still a great read. Mickey Haller, dealing with tough times, has taken on fighting for people facing foreclosures. Not that he ultimately wins, but rather he buys them time. Lisa Trammel is one of his foreclosure clients. …
I love a series that starts off great and keeps getting better, and this fourth book was the best one I’ve read yet. Couldn’t recommend more!
Not sure how I missed this before. I always read Connelly.
Haller’s client in a bankruptcy proceeding is accused of murder. Haller intends to get her off with smoke and mirrors, if he lives thru it.
Suspected something wasn’t right, but didn’t see the end ahead of time.
I enjoyed the book. It was realistic page turner that keep you interested and on the edge of your seat
Michael Connelly is my go-to author for audio when I want to get lost in a story and force myself out the door on those much-needed walks. This book, with lawyer Mickey Haller in the Lincoln Lawyer series, forced me happily out the door every day. Sorry it ended.
I’ve read the first book, The Lincoln Lawyer, so I don’t know if every Haller book …
I have read all of his books never read one that wasn’t, the best
Love all Michael Connelly books
I’m a huge fan of Michael Connelly and loved this book like all his others. He has an amazing writing style that draws me in. This plot is similar to his other books, but I never get tired of the premise.
Always enjoy.
Book on CD
I appreciate a good courtroom drama, and this one kept moving. However, I found it a little tedious that so many items “just came up this morning”, or “we just got the results last night” on both sides. A little too convenient.
This is the 4th in a series, but it pretty much stands alone. Haller’s legal team and ex-wives/family are …
Michael Connelly takes little liberty with law and procedure in the telling of this very plausible murder mystery set in the post-bubble crash yet tells a compelling story of intrigue and greed surrounding a not-very-likeable client who may, nor may not, be guilty of the murder of which she is accused. Excellent narration.
Michael Connally is a a great author. Never boring
Great book, excellent series.
Another 5 star read from Michael Conally.
A great courtroom drama. Several twists to keep it interesting. The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t disappoint.
Really good read
Michael always delivers a good book.
This was a good courtroom thriller/mystery. I have read a number of books by Connelly across three of his series and he never disappoints. This novel had substance with a major issue that is affecting millions of people as its background. I liked how the story was built slowly in a logical manner and the twists understandable and not something …
This was an abridged audio book. Very good performance. This is only the second Lincoln Lawyer story that I have read/listened to. It was very enjoyable and as always; even when you think you’ve gotten it figured out, he likes to throw in a twist. Great characters, good story, always entertaining.
