The first volume in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure THE LORD OF THE RINGS One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, … him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose. “A unique, wholly realized other world, evoked from deep in the well of Time, massively detailed, absorbingly entertaining, profound in meaning.” – New York Times

A must read! Yes the movies were great but the books are just so much more. Tolkien was a master of words.
This is one of the classics, you will go with the characters on their grand adventure.
Great books
I recommend this book and the other two books that complete the trilogy. I was given the set during my senior year in high school as a gift for Christmas (1971). This was long before it was popularized by the movies. I read the three books in three days I’m a very fast reader and if the book is good, I’ll stay up late reading. My friend who gave …
One of my favorites., and surely most people have either read this or seen the motion picture version of it. If all you have seen was the film version. Don’t leave it at that. There is so much more to it in the book. Tolkien is a great story teller and creator of a story of great detail and an amazing world!
Enjoyed reading this book!
A classic
Great story. I’ve read it several times over the years
A classic reminder that even in the darkest times courage and community can save the world.
One of the best epics ever written. Have read this over 5 times in 60 years .
The subtle nuances can still apply.
Need to read many times to truly appreciate this work .
Some of the messages resonate in our world today.
One of my favorite fantasy series. Read for the first time in middle school after reading The Hobbit. It made me a lifelong lover of fantasy novels.
Still one of the best books every written. I make it a point to re-read the series yearly.
My favorite fantasy book series since 1978! None can touch the detail, the depth or the power of Tolkien’s LOTR series. Read it…fall in love!
One of my all time favorite books!
This book had so much meaning and representation in it. The events in it are very relatable to our lives even though it is a fantastical world.
I loved this book. I reread it every year.
I’m sure most people are familiar with the Lord of the Ring. For a lot people they were only introduce to J. R. R Tolkien through the movies. I prefer books. However, I was once told you have to look film and literature as different forms of creativity. Whichever way you choose to go, you won’t be disappointed. Tolkien is considered as the “Father …
Of course this is one of the all-time classics, and one of my favorite movies. Yet this is only the second time I’ve read (this time listened to) the book. I remember why: The Lord of the Rings are more atmospheric than anything else, I feel like. The stories are long, much longer than they need to be, and filled with lots of redundancies or …
Yes, Tolkien gets off track there and there, particularly with the inclusion of Tom Bombadil (sacrilege to some hard-core, I know) but overall, this sweeping epic of a book gives a wonderful sense of mystery and adventure. Imperfect in places, yes, but it is in so many ways everything you want an adventure book to be.
An older book but truly a classic that all fantasy and/or adventure fans will enjoy!
