The first volume in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure THE LORD OF THE RINGS One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others. But the One Ring was taken from him, … him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit. In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose. “A unique, wholly realized other world, evoked from deep in the well of Time, massively detailed, absorbingly entertaining, profound in meaning.” – New York Times

This is one of my favorite books ever.
Like with my “review” of The Hobbit, this is going to be my less of a real review and more just my thoughts on my experience with this book. After reading The Hobbit, I knew I had to go on to read the LoTR series. However, I also knew that I would never make it through if I read the text. My sister once suggested listening to the audiobook …
Just read it
One of my all-time favorites, along with the rest of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
Where would we be without Tolkien? While the films are marvelous renderings of his fantasy world, the books weave the themes in much finer detail. I and others I know have thought, “I wish they had kept [this particular character or that particular scene] in the movie.” If you’ve seen the movie, you can still appreciate the book; and vice versa.
I love it
I have read the Hobit and the middle earth trilogy Lord of the rings several times. The character development is masterful and pulls you into the story. I have seen all the movies made several times, also the story is fresh and vibrant with each reading and viewing of the films. These stories should be taught in school to demonstrate world …
Rereading after forty plus years. I don’t think I’ll wait so long to read it again.
A classic tale of good triumphing over evil. Follow the adventures of Frodo and his loyal friends – hobbit, human, dwarf, and elf – as they carry the One Ring to Mordor to be destroyed.
A classic
Absolutely incredible. A wonderful adventure story. At first I admit it did seem a bit dull, however after the first chapter I was hooked. The building of the world and each character really made me appreciate the story and the action that much more. A great start to the series.
So glad I finally got around to reading this series! I don’t know what took me so long, it really was great world building. The characters are all wonderfully written along with all km the places they went.
One of the best @
The beginning of every journey is often exhilarating, none more so than LOTR: TFOTR. If you have never read this story or if you have only seen the popular movies based on Tolkien’s incredible world, you really should give it a shot.
I love this book! It’s a wonderful world that everyone should visit!
One of my favorite of all time. Tolkien is the master!
Part of one of the greatest fantasy series ever!
Tolkien is the author that everyone tries to replicate for a reason. The storyline can get complex at times with the relationships, names, and languages but it is worth it. Written back in the 50’s and still relevant today. I reread the entire series every few years. The movie versions of each book and the three movies for the Hobbit are all …
It’s considered a classic for a reason. Much better than any movie.
The best fantasy realm written by a philologist master of the English language. Utter evil challenges the world, and a simple hobbit shall lead them.
