Heir to the most notorious clan in the Highlands, Hugh MacIain hides his identity while imprisoned in the bowels of Fort William’s hell. Aye, this braw warrior has endured horrors that should have seen him dead, though now it appears it’s the bloody flux that will send him to Satan’s fire.Optimistic, competent, and captivating, Charlotte Hill takes pity on a fevered prisoner sprawled atop a cot … atop a cot in the fort’s surgery. When finally the Highlander opens his eyes, he seizes her heart with a pained stare. Truly, this is no commoner—but in 1692, a warrior loyal to the Jacobite cause and the daughter of a government colonel may as well be worlds apart.
After his escape, Hugh snatches a chance to woo the lass, until disaster strikes. While war and lust for vengeance force Charlotte further from Hugh’s arms, the couple’s romance seems aimlessly adrift on the open sea. Before they sail too far apart, can the tender love of an English lady coax a determined Highlander from his path of revenge?

Excellent book I have read many books by this author and am never disappointed
An enthralling story of the horrors of war and a love that surpasses station and prejudice. The love between a Sassanach maiden used to luxury and the wanted highlander whom she helps fall in love. But the ongoing war separates to them time and again and the slaughter of most of his clan may be the end. But the English lady has more gumption than every body thinks she will sacrifice to be with her highlander and help him rebuild.
Well written historical novel, action packed and realistic. Plot did not need the few erotic spots to be exciting and otherwise well written, thus the 4 rating. Without the erotica, I would have rated it a 5 star
I enjoy a love story mixed with historical fiction. Great characters and plot based on an actual Scottish uprising. I would highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Tragedy and love and betrayal. It’s a great story with good characters. I always feel a little haunted when I read about Highlander’s losing battles to the English.
Such an amazing story. One well worth re-reading again at another time.
Even though I found this to be a tragic tale in so many ways, love managed to shine through.
Always like books by Amy Jarecki. Also like historical Scottish romances. So this was a win win for me
I enjoyed this book, to choose love and your destiny.
The story was slow, but a good read overall.
I now have a new favorite author in Amy Jarecki! This story is a definite page-turner; full of passion, drama, steamy romance and substance. The author has great wit! Well done!!!!
The Fearless Highlander by Amy Jarecki is a beautifully written and very engaging story! I could not put this book down, it completely captured my attention. The author did her research. The amount of history that is in this book is fascinating. After reading this book, I went and read up on the Glencoe Massacre because I had not heard of it before. There is so much emotion in this book and I felt it all. The characters were phenomenal! I fell in love with so many of them! The hero and heroine were amazing and I loved reading about them. Absolutely phenomenal read.
The Fearless Highlander by Amy Jarecki is a fabulous Highlander romance. Ms. Jarecki has gifted readers with a well-written book furnished with a phenomenal cast of characters. Charlotte hates the way her father’s men treat the Scottish prisoners and tries to help them when she can. Hugh is one of those prisoners. Hugh and Charlotte’s tale is packed with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense. I loved every page of The Fearless Highlander and look forward to reading more from Amy Jarecki in the future. The Fearless Highlander is book 1 in the Highland Defender Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete story, not a cliff-hanger.
